Thanks MissC we also get heatwave here tomorrow. Did a disability discrimination legal claim against school today, will be too slow to help DS but at least it means there are consequences for the school. I have also got mediation certificate so can take ehcp to Tribunal though big delays on that too. LA suddenly came back with a meeting tomorrow at 3pm, schòol not responding but cost of lawyers may just make them back down. Really heartbreaking that a mute scared gentle little boy whose Mum has cancer is being put through all this.

Dds two exams went fine even French writing. Just had duck from the Chinese, surprisingly Mr Floof has been calm today, well he initially came to look for footballs foil wrappers realised he had lost them then got DH shirt down and went to sleep on it. Now he let me eat my Chinese in peace. I suspect he will be hyper for DD tonight. She has 5 exams left but none until Monday then over. Having an archers and lemonade, shouldnt really but chemo plus ds school led me to it. At least chemo ends on 27th ds school drama permitting.

Just booking things for Cornwall, booked the Morgan car hire 4 seater classic car today and then booked rabbit and kitten vaccines but cat hotel is full. Will try to find a friend to take him.

IWanderedLonely · 16/06/2022 21:03

Miss hope the cortisone injection went well.
SilkiesFlowers, no words- beyond despicable.

We have been in the supermarket for an hour & a half, bumped into an old neighbour, then my daughter's old schoolfriend. Was lovely to catch up with both of them ( but my feet are cold nowGrin

MissConductUS · 16/06/2022 21:30

I'm just back from the procedure. It went fine. They do a couple of lidocaine injections to numb the area of the spinal dura. That hurt a bit, but numbed the area so that I didn't really feel the larger needle going in a few minutes later. It was a lot like getting an epidural when giving birth. I have to take it easy tonight, then everything is back to normal tomorrow. It will take a few days to know if it has really helped with the sciatica. I have a telehealth follow up in six weeks.

It was nice to have DS in the car with me on the way over and back. He may drive up to Boston next weekend to see his former roommate and have some fun. His online classes are going well.

Silkie, we went through something similar getting DS services, but not as bad as your situation. We had to pay to have him independently assessed before they would get their thumb out and do what was right.

Every time someone here mentions Cornwall, I think of the lovely town here in New York, which I'm not far from.

Cornwall, NY

Good Morning,
DS is off to school to get his 'Vornoten' and to find out if he has to pass additional oral exams.
DD is off to uni.
They predicted 33°C for the weekend.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2022 11:10

DS is back - he admitted to doing hardly any revision at all and declined the offer of additional orals as it could only become worse. He's got a 2,8. If he had worked and prepared, everything would be fine. As he hasn't, I feel like giving him a 'Fönfrisur' or 'Ansage' - but, of course, I won't.
At least he (well, probably I) can look at options now.

MissConductUS · 17/06/2022 20:21

Prok, is the 2,8 too low to receive credit for the course? And why would you give him a hair dryer, if google has translated Fönfrisur correctly?

Some minor bad news here. They are doing road works by the reservoir, so it is closed to all traffic, including pedestrian traffic. I don't know how long it will go on, but I suspect weeks. I did find some nice places to walk nearby, including a path that runs by a stream that I think drains water from the reservoir. I would post a picture but our work wifi seems to be having a moment currently.

The much bigger good news is that I woke up this morning with most of my sciatic never pain gone, so the steroid injection seems to have worked! 😁I messaged the doctor to let her know. Fingers crossed that it stays this way and I can avoid surgery.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2022 21:02

Miss Great news about your back!

Grin 'Fönfrisur' is a term used for 'giving someone a strongly worded reprimand the shouting being so strong that the hair is blown back'.

Well, 2,8 is about average (by comparison for medicine you currently need 1.1, for law 2,2 to get even a chance of a place - he luckily is not interested) There are a number of courses at uni or dual he could successfuly apply to, perhaps even a preparatory course. I have given him 14 days to narrow down the field and find out where his interests lie (apart from books and gameing). The year startes in August,

MissConductUS · 17/06/2022 21:30

Prok, that explains the images I found on google of people with their hair blowing back.😃

It is frustrating when young people procrastinate on something important.

Silkierabbit · 17/06/2022 21:44

Thanks Iwandered Glad you met up with some friends.

Prok Glad your ds has enough to get onto a course.

Miss Glad procedure went well.

Guess who lost DS again, third time in 6 days, think there must be an Oscar Wilde saying about that. Called DH in at 11am to help look for him, DH actually got there at 12pm, located at 1.30pm or so but DH was asked to stay until 3pm so missed 3 hours work he will need to catch up. Meanwhile I was home and sick once though then took anti sickness pill and improved. Then had a 3pm meeting with LA and discussed things, that went ok. Then dh back and he said school did call police again which means Mon we will get the SS call even though its school lost him not us, which will add to the great mix of chemo, gsce, transport strike plus school may lose ds again. I had a pimms and lemonade.

Dd has gone out with a friend who bought a cinema ticket for her and him and is taking her out for a meal. Mr Floof has been playing the piano, I wondered first if dh was playing after a pimms but nope was the rather heavy pawed Mr Floof. He came on my bed and also cuddled the Christmas robin, looked like he was kissing it but suspect he was biting its beak as he is teething. He snuggles up to robin though nearly knocks him over. 30C here, had a salmon salad and ice cream.

Silkierabbit · 17/06/2022 21:48

Robin and floof

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/06/2022 22:45

Silkie This would be a situation I would go in for a very civilized and polite conversation (sometimes a language with an extra layer of openly marked formality has its uses) Grin - but honestly, aren't they thoroughly ashamed about that level of incompetence?

Mr. Fluff is getting more handsome every day.

halfpasteleven · 17/06/2022 22:49

That's a great photo @Silkierabbit. I love your robin and Mr Floof sure is growing bigger by the day!
I'm really sorry to hear about your poor DSs struggles - the school sound useless- surely they are responsible for his safety whilst he is on their premises?
You are coping so well - not for the first time I salute you!
I'm finished work for the summer now..
Too tired tonight to do anything tho!

HildaTablet · 18/06/2022 12:16

Glad to hear the injection was a success, MissC.

Silkie, I’m just adding to the chorus of frustration about the uselessness of DS’s school. Can they not take these as learning opportunities and think ‘hang on - he’s done this before. Where is he most likely to be?’….and then, I dunno, look there? You really have more than enough on your plate right now. Someone mentioned trackers….I don’t know whether this would be something you’d feel comfortable with but as a very short term solution it might at least be an option to take the immediate pressure off.

But I really feel the school isn’t being helpful here understatement

(Prok I too looked up ‘frönfrisur’ and was too timid to advance my theory - conditioned by years of never daring to put my hand up in class in case I had the wrong answer - so I feel a glow of belated pride that I jumped to the right conclusion!)

Silkierabbit · 18/06/2022 14:06

Thanks Prok Mr Floof I think agrees with you, at least he keeps posing for photos. Grin

Mr Floof is busy footballing, seems to be a full time occupation now. He is so good at it. He also keeps going on the piano which makes DH happy. Heard him call him my little pepere, you are so cute. DH got him some chicken kitten food but it seems its not as good as the tuna cat food as he did not eat the whole thing in 10 secs.

DD has gone out for the day.

We are due to go to May Bumps garden party in Cambridge (rowing races) at someone's house who lives in a thatched cottage on the river with food by the university and lots of pimms. Am hoping will be well enough to go, not been well past 24 hours, thinks it chemo sickness and school stress.

DH is just on a collecting parcels trip, Dunelm for a new shower curtain and toilet seat for downstairs, Boden for a sun hat for today (though atm may be rain hat) and maybe Cornwall, Currys for a DS tracker and hopefully TV stand, and some shoes for today.

Thanks Hilda and Half Yes we now have to buy a tracker. I don't mind him having a tracker, not sure if he will be OK with it but its that or police every other day. School are supposed to be responsible in school hours but they keep calling police saying they have no idea where he is and he could be in or out of school. He's always in school but its causing issues with SS as they think I have lost my child as only the message he was lost has got through though we have been able to decline them but you get the you clearly don't know where your child is talk each time and are a crap parent from SS. Think the woman there has about 3 brain cells and she does not get he is at school whole time though police said its the way school are issuing alerts that is causing the problem, they are saying could be onsite, could be offsite. Though school are now acknowledging he is always onsite to police as DH was there at the meeting on Friday. But will have the SS woman calling on Monday, my chemo day and I so do not want to deal with her.

MissConductUS · 18/06/2022 16:20

I'm really enjoying the relative lack of pain today.

I said yesterday I'd post a picture of the brook my new non-reservoir takes me past, so here it is. The deck planters are doing really well. My tomatoes (on the left) are already over the railing and I'm starting to get some flowers.

It's a lovely day here. I'm going for a walk and the men have to mow the lawn, having let that slip last weekend. Tomorrow is Father's Day, and Monday is a federal holiday called Juneteenth.

Great News about your back pain MissC.

Am 🤨 at your poor DS’s school.

After avoiding Covid this long Covid has struck the Lemon household. All three of us and DM. My symptoms are extremely tired and very itchy eyes and fuzzy head.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/06/2022 16:49

Sorry Silkie the above message was for you re DS school.

mathanxiety · 18/06/2022 17:57

We had far less humidity yesterday. I got a sunburned forehead just walking around. I had my sunscreen in my bag. Doh.

Temps are forecast to rise from tomorrow on. Today is very pleasant, warm and not humid.

Dcat is starting to develop mattes in her luxuriant fur again, as she's doing her summer moult. I've been busy combing her. She loves the fur comb and purrs like a jet engine for the half hour it takes to loosen piles of fur.

DD3 is heading out this afternoon to see if any local bakeries or shops are hiring part timers and is straightening her hair in preparation.

Great news about your shots, MissC. Back pain is miserable.

Sorry to hear you've been hit by covid, Lemons. Hope you all shake it off without complications.

Silkies, your DS's school is clearly not supervising him at all. I would think this is a very basic requirement for a school. How many other kids do they lose every day?

Silkierabbit · 18/06/2022 20:07

Glad pain is low MissC

Sorry you are ill Lemons

Thanks Math

Did get to May Bumps garden party, its the rowing races before the May Balls next week.

Silkie Those are beautiful houses! I hope you enjoyed your day.

We had our 'Hoffest'. I met interesting neighbours with fascinating jobs, discovered that one of them (who made a lovely beetroot and zucchini bread) is not only from my hometown, but from the same quater. We went to the same school and the same sports club. The young teachers I had were reaching pension age when she was there.
My DB and partner came, too. Today they are of the Berlin ukulele festival.

Silkierabbit · 19/06/2022 11:21

Its such a beautiful house Prok, its one big thatched cottage on the river. Our cottage is like a smaller version but sadly not on the river. I was looking up the houses and one is a thatched cottage with swimming pool inside, that is my dream house.

That sounds like a lovely Hoffest Prok glad you had a good time.

Its Fathers Day here and I gave DH his present, Floof has been playing with the ribbon it came with. DD is about to cook us all an English breakfast and she bought DH some cheese which she said melted a bit on the way back but being French he will see that as a benefit. I just heard him saying I love you Mr Floof.

Hoping rabbit is OK. We bought a McDonalds back and gave a meal and apple pie to DS then when I looked in rabbit has his head in the apple pie in the hole to cool in and was swinging the packet round to knock the apple pie out trying to eat the pie looking like he was living the ultimate rabbit fantasy of cardboard box and apple pie to eat. DS just sitting there leaving him to it.

MissConductUS · 19/06/2022 17:52

Lemons, I hope you and your family are doing okay. Hopefully, it will just be a rough three or four days.

Silkie, that is a lovely cottage. Tudor style was popular here for a bit but you don't see it much anymore. It's father's day here too but DH won't get his presents until after dinner.

I spoke too soon about the cacti not flowering yet. One has just started and has loads of buds still to open.

Fabulous cactus blossoms, MissC.

The Hoffest sounds lovely, Prok. If Hoffest means what I think it means, we have something similar here in the form of block parties every summer. The street is blocked off and neighbours spend the day gabbing and swigging the odd beer or sixteen, with kids skating around and riding bikes, sometimes a pet parade, lots of chalk drawing all over the street, amateur face painting, and on one memorable year, a karaoke machine Smile. There's usually a fire pit and a bouncy castle too, not right beside each other though, everyone brings a dish to share for the evening meal, and nobody gets to bed before 1am.
I wonder if my cousin who lives in Germany went to the Berlin ukelele festival. It would be right up his alley.

My sunburn has lost its neon quality, thank goodness. I got a few funny looks on Saturday. I expect I will have a slight tan by about Wednesday.

Happy Fathers' Day to all the fathers in our lives Wine

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/06/2022 18:45

Thanks MissC I’m so very tired. DH has a bad head and DS is ok. DM is tired.

DH has managed to wash some new towels and more or less ruined them by adding fabric conditioner.

sueelleker · 20/06/2022 19:28

I did an LFT this morning, preparatory to my cataract operation on Thursday. (Have to do another one Thursday morning before I go in). Luckily it was negative. Fingers crossed for the next one!
