Silkies the night away sounds lovely - something to look forward toSmile
Champagne I am constantly having to get bits of me seen to. Latest bit of me to get old is the pad of my left foot. Waiting to see if it goes away on its own, menopause appointments are enough to deal with for now.
We've just heard that my mum is expecting her 19th great-grandchildShock

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 31/03/2022 21:06

Finally catching up with the new thread, hello to you all!!

I have been freezing this week and yesterday had to resort to putting my thermal vest back on. It even tried to snow a little bit earlier, soon passed though. Brrrrrr!

HelenaJustina · 31/03/2022 21:16

The children got so excited every time there was a flurry of snow. I spent most of my outdoor lunch duty telling children to put their coats back on as it was actually snowing/sleeting in patches.

Makiwa · 01/04/2022 10:46

I hope that you're all wrapped up warm! We have had snow all morning but it isn't settling as it's 2°C. Just been out to buy groceries for the weekend's meals. Beef stew and raclette feature on the menu.

DD1 and her DP have the right idea. They've taken themselves off to South Africa for 10 days. They will be visiting the Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park. I think that I made them aware of how jealous I am lucky they are.

Silkie your little trip sounds like a wonderful gift. IWanderedLonely that is an impressive number of GGC. Do you have many siblings?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/04/2022 11:10

It is done - DS has finished his last proper day of school - ever Grin
Monday is consultation with bio and english teachers.
Tuesday we learn if and at what level he is admitted (Zulassung), and on the 7th he has to answer questions about the paper he handed in and then it's revision time.

MissConductUS · 01/04/2022 15:10

Shoes, I'm glad you rejoined us. Smile

Prok, that's great about your son finishing. I'm so looking forward to my son's graduation next month. I can't believe he's been away for four years.

We have lots of precipitation in the 10-day forecast, but it's all rain. This gives me hope that we're done with snow until next winter.

I had my booster jab last night and was in and out in five minutes. The pharmacist was lovely and I thought I recognized her but she was quite busy so I didn't want to distract her by mentioning it and trying to determine if we had ever worked together.

I'm fine, just a bit tired and achy today. This is good. It means that my muscle cells are turning out covid spike proteins and my innate immune system has reacted.

@Makiwa oooh that all sounds delicious, you’re making me hungry! Not helped by the fact that DD is eating chips from the chippy now too. She often has them from our local one on a Friday, she asks for “car chips” as we have to drive to get them. Girl in the chippy saw me pull up today so they were ready by the time we got in the shop Grin , they love DD in there.
DH and I are having fish pie with veg.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 01/04/2022 16:40

I got my booster this morning at Walmart - they had lots of open appointments so I took the first one this morning. I've had three Modernas so this time I went with Pfizer. It was very quick and easy.

Waiting to see if I have any reaction. I haven't really felt much after the last three other than swollen glands and a headache. Nothing yet.

Gonnagetgoing · 01/04/2022 16:46

It's my last day at work after being in a toxic job for 8 months!

Boyfriend is off work and not feeling very well with sore eye (chalazion) so not seeing him. Close friends I was supposed to go to Greenwich for a day trip have both come down with Omicron this week so that's out too! I saw on BBC London extra news a reporter doing the Cutty Sark rig climb experience which I stupidly thought 'oh yeah I'll do that!' Watched her do it and F no I am NOT doing that! This is the person who screamed a bit (honestly!) whilst going up in the lifts at the Eiffel Tower I don't trust the engineering!

Popping out at 5pm for a coffee and to do some quick food shopping, doing a really quick and easy meal and snuggling with the cat later.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/04/2022 17:12

Most covid rules are dropped for now. Cases in hospitals/ ICU are stable. Schools continue to test everybody 3 times a week and the GES (parents' representation) urges all to keep wearing FFP2 masks and open the windows). DS got 10 tests for f2f appointments.
But I can go places without my app and without pre-booking timeslots and DH can get his beard seen to (about time!). So - yay.

Nydj · 01/04/2022 17:40

Congratulations to your DS, Prok.

It’s owed a bit here today but not while I was on my walk. I put oven pride solution in our very old air fryer to give it a really got clean. The food residue is gone but so is some of the non-stick coating. Oh well!

Echobelly · 01/04/2022 17:45

I've defrosted some kosher sausages for our Friday night meal - it's Sausage Shabbat! Put some wine in the fridge too.

Oldest has finished school for this term - I am so glad they are now old enough to be 'self organising' and I don't have to plan activities for two kids, especially as this year youngest and oldest's schools have different holiday times for Easter.

Silkierabbit · 01/04/2022 18:11

Welcome back Shoes

I am also jealous of the South Africa holiday Makiwa Went to Cape Town about 20 years ago now with DH and saw penguins on the beach and Table Mountain and a safari.

Well done on your DS finishing Prok

I got called by hospital first thing telling me to come in for emergency bloods and blood pressure and maybe a blood transfusion or platelet transfusion. Shock I was like I would prefer to stay in bed as I feel dizzy and have a headache. But no they insisted so DH took me thankfully was just blood tests and blood pressure then back. Got a bigMac on the way back and had 2 Fab lollies.

Easter holidays here now. DH put a washing up bowl of soap and water out for me on the dining room floor. We came downstairs to find Silkiecat with her two paws on it and head in the middle looking ecstatic drinking from it, finally a suitable size drinking bowl and water with flavour. DH said Silkiecat that is Mummy's water not yours and Silkiecat came off looking very small and went into hiding. I then said silly Papa its Silkiecat's water, he got us mixed up and Silkiecat purred the loudest purr and jumped up high.

IWanderedLonely · 01/04/2022 18:22

Makiwa I'm one of 5.
We've lit the fire today. Feeling snuggly and lazy.

MissConductUS · 01/04/2022 18:33

Welcome, @Gonnagetgoing, and thanks for sharing your interesting yet still calming and mundane news. I hope your boyfriend's chalazion resolves soon. I can't drink coffee at 5:00 PM as it will keep me from falling asleep later.

Well done, ZZ. You may have a bit more of a reaction to the Moderna booster as the dosage is higher than Pfizer, 50mcg vs 30mcg. It really doesn't matter which one you get. Prok, it's great to hear that conditions are so much better now in Germany.

Echo, when does the next term start? Kids here are in school until late May.

I got a good closeup of Mr and Mrs Duck while walking today. A few minutes after I took this it started pouring rain. I had on a short jackets and a small folding umbrella, so I didn't get completely wet, but I'm still a bit damp.

Talking of ducks. One of the crows that dismanteled DH's tomato support structure for nesting material has learned to imitate a duck call.
I was looking all over for a stranded duck and there it sat.

Lemonsandlemonade · 01/04/2022 22:37

Hi all, hope you’re all ok. Mad busy here as it’s the run up to Easter. 5 more days in work then two weeks with my DS.

Leaving him overnight for first time ever tomorrow. He is staying at home with DM staying in our room. Have a child free weddings to go to. DH is more nervous than me!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/04/2022 10:38

DS - in full re-start mood - has sorted out is clothes's baskets (Kallax).
7 dark blues hoodies he has grown out of. DD has registered interest, they will probably fit me, too. Grin

It is cold and too dry.

DH will make chili con köfte.

MissConductUS · 02/04/2022 11:07

DH got his second covid booster last night. We'll see how he feels this morning.

He came back and made pizza. We'll he prepared pizza. When it was time to put it in the oven we realized that the oven had never started heating up. It's gas (propane) and eight years old. DH thinks it will likely be a part called the igniter that needs to be replaced and a fairly simple repair, so we'll have to see who we can get to look at it. A comparable new oven with burners (hob?) would be about $2000 so I'd really rather repair it if possible.

The pizza, still on the Calphalon nonstick pizza pan, is in the upright freezer awaiting its destiny.

Lemons, of course he's more nervous than you. He's not a mum. Smile

Prok, that's a lot of hoodies. My DS collects college T-shirts. He has at least 20 of them. When we were touring universities with him the colleges gave them out and he's just gone on acquiring them.

My DD and I are meeting up with my Ex DiL. We have not been able to meet for a year. I know it is dull for others, but I love her so much. I can’t wait for a catch up

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/04/2022 11:34

florentina Dull and calming is what it is about here (mostly).

To continue: DD and I have several "new" hoodies - the rest will go to the clothes' bank after they have been washed.
DD just got out the vacuum (word of the day: Staubsauger) Smile

Have a lovely evening Lemons
Prok Myself and one of my brothers studied languages and both did German, my other brother who was rubbish at languages was very proud of one of his very few German sentences…..”ich habe mein Staubsauger verloren”. Grin
