Bruises fading on my arms from needles. It turns out if you hit my hand painfully several times, useful veins can appear.

Recovering from surgery. When not in pain, I feel a bit like lady muck, sitting around reading and sleeping.

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/06/2022 21:00

silkie Glad your DD got a job £10 PH is great money ! My first job was £5.05 ph at her age.

pink Hope your recovery is still going well.

Ds had his first birthday today. It was a magical day but the zoo we went to was absolutely rammed.

Very warm here.

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/06/2022 21:13

Forgot to say that we are staying tonight in a hotel ( think a chain) we had our meal free of charge as it was such a shambles. Said hotel offers free meals for children in the upstairs restaurant whereas the parents had to order and have their food in the bar downstairs. It made zero sense.

Silkierabbit · 02/06/2022 21:31

Happy Birthday to your DS Lemons

Hope your recovery is going well Pink My nurse also did that on 8th chemo and got cannula in first time and no bruise so down to 3 small ones now.

Hope your enjoyed your meal DrTwo We just had smoked salmon salad not very British but snaffled by Mr Floof who was very happy. Did have a pimms and lemonade with strawberries in. They were out of clotted cream so couldn't have scones, must be some kind of event on.

Nydj · 02/06/2022 22:07

Well done to your DD on getting the job Silkies - what a great way to spend the summer after her GCSEs!

I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow, Miss.

We took advantage of most people in central London heading towards the jubilee celebrations by going to Regents Park. It was lovely and the roses are so gorgeous in the Queen Mary Garden - in previous years, I am usually too early or too late to see them at their best but today was just right. Apologies to the random couple in the photo

Those roses are magnificent, Nydj. What a gorgeous day for the Jubilee celebration - hopefully more of the same for the rest of the events. Thanks to a wet, cool, and windy spring, we seem to be having a good year for roses here too, though the American midwest is an unforgiving location for roses and the blooms tend to be a good deal smaller than their British and Irish counterparts.

Lemons that is a very poorly conceived dining arrangement. Belated birthday wishes to your DS. Time really flies.

Silkies congratulations to DD on her summer job. It sounds really enjoyable.

Pink speedy recovery. I sat around to my heart's content this afternoon and I recommend it.

I made a hearty cabbage soup yesterday, with lentils added on a whim. Next time I'll stick to the recipe or just add kidney beans. The flavour is nice but the lentils absorbed a lot of the broth.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2022 03:26

MissC hope your day at the hospital went well.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/06/2022 13:16

Wow Nydj what a lovely photo.

Cabbage soup sounds different Math glad you enjoyed.

Home after our trip and trying to have mad tidy up before family visit Sunday.

MissConductUS · 03/06/2022 13:47

Lemons, happy birthday to your DS. It sounds like a nice day out.

Nydj lovely picture. My roses won't be out for a while.

Math, the test is today. I'm at the hospital waiting to be injected with the radioactive marker.

DH and I did a long walk (8.2 miles) and have downed two glasses of squash since we got home. I’ve recovered enough to make a cup of tea now.

we’re not going to bother with ‘lunch’ now, just munch on some biscuits and make tea early. That’s lamb shanks with new potatoes and veg. Will need to go to the shop for milk, though, to make custard for the crumble. It’s only 5 mins walk away…. but I might just take the car.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/06/2022 15:06

DD persuaded me to buy 2 simple linen (oh the ironing) summer dresses. So I will wear dresses for the 1st time since 2002 Grin

MissConductUS · 03/06/2022 15:34

Welcome, @PuzzledObserver , and thanks for sharing your calming news. 8.2 miles is a very long walk.

Prok, linen is a lot of ironing but cool in the summer.

The nuclear medicine tech did a baseline scan and gave me the injection. He also gave me a card to present to law enforcement in case I set off any radiation alarms in the next few days. I have another hour to wait until they do the next scan. I am in a patient waiting room. Fortunately there is good wifi.

@MissConductUS thank you for your welcome.

we’ve done the shopping, and DH insisted on buying some double caramel Magnums. I hope that’s not too exciting for this thread - we’ve eaten one apiece.

I’m going to put the lamb in the oven now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/06/2022 20:13

It is pentecost (Pfingsten) so Monday is a holiday, too. I hope the weather stays good.
I will try to attach a second monitor to my PC. I hope it works.

DS has shreddered all his school papers.

HelenaJustina · 03/06/2022 20:35

We have a family party tomorrow, have made a lemon drizzle cake and have all the components for an Eton mess for 30.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/06/2022 21:23

Have a lot of fun Helena (Eaton mess sounds delicious - I looked it up!).
DB issued an open invitation to a breakfast place in our hometown for his 59th birthday. It collides with DS's official school leaving do 500 km away.

MissConductUS · 03/06/2022 21:50

I hope your lamb comes out well, Puzzled. We hardly ever have lamb.

Good luck, Prok, configuring a second monitor can be tricky, at least on a Windows computer.

Helena, good luck with your family party. I remember googling Eaton mess years ago when I first heard of it here on MN.

I worked from home this afternoon, as I felt a little poorly from the injection. I'm also supposed to avoid being around pregnant women for a few days, and I don't want to accidentally expose anyone at work.

Picking strawberries will have to wait. Our local pick your own farm says they are a little late this spring because of all the rain we've had. Possible next weekend or the one after.

I spoke too soon about my roses. They have just started to open. The cactus is perking up nicely too.

Hope you feel better quickly Miss- you must be glad to have this part over you. Your roses are a lovely colour.
Helena, we have a family party tomorrow also but I'm not baking or making dessert for it- just praying it stays dry!!

Silkierabbit · 03/06/2022 23:09

Thanks Nydj Lovely photo and day out.

Thanks Math Hope you enjoyed the soup.

We were supposed to go out today to see seals on a jet boat got with Avios points but did not go as DS would not move, and DH was faffing. I felt weak with chemo but wanted to go out. I messaged the company and explained would not make it and they kindly given 2 hours notice gave us a voucher code for 50 pounds off a later trip.

Had a lovely takeaway from the village pub, whitebait, minted new potatoes, onion rings, seasonal veg, spring rolls for DD but DS and DH ate, she was out with friends all day so they snaffled them, and apple and rhurbarb crumble and custard as well as fish, chips and peas for DS. Had more pimms and lemonade.

DH felt guilty about the seal trip and said you can go anywhere you want. So we are going to Seahouses tomorrow, staying overnight, and going to a 3 hour puffin trip spending an hour on Inner Farne. We will visit Holy Island as well if time though have checked tidal times and got NT tickets to the castle. Back very late Sunday.

Have been mr floof sitting as DD out. Dds furniture back in room.

Hope you feel better soon MissC

Shame the events clash Prok

sproutsandparsnips · 03/06/2022 23:45

That trip sounds lovely Silkie.
Hoping it stays dry for you tomorrow Helena.
Hope you are feeling better Miss.
I have taken DS2 to my parents' for a day or two. DS1 went camping overnight and is revising for the parts of his GCSEs he is taking this year. I do t think he enjoyed the sleeping part of the camping as he was not comfortable and apparently there was a large beetle. He was home and in his bed by 0930 (they only camped a mile or so away)!

HildaTablet · 04/06/2022 09:13

The trip to Seahouses sounds great Silkie - my DSis was there a couple of weeks ago and got some amazing photos of the puffins and other birds. Hope the weather holds for you.

We had a nice sunny day yesterday which DH and I spent mostly cutting up a vast mound of garden clippings to put in the green bins. We had to trim an over-exuberant climbing hydrangea which goes all along our garden wall and the bin lorry men say it impedes their view. So we had to cut it. So far we’ve filled both bins twice and we’ve still got a huge pile to deal with 😱

Woke up to showery rain this morning, which doesn’t bode well for the Jubilee street party taking place in our village later.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/06/2022 14:51

I have just finished cleaning DS's room after having traced the moth outbreak to him - he practically offered the clothes moths a buffet. He does not clean as he might encounter spiders. I moved 5 of them to different parts (planters) of our flat.
So I have not yet finished my usual chores and am already exhausted.

MissConductUS · 04/06/2022 18:17

Thanks, Halfpast, I've always really liked that shade of pink. I started that rose bush, and another closer to the house, using cuttings from a rose bush at my mum's house about 20 years ago. They still thrive!

I hope you're enjoying your trip today, Silkie.

Prok, I have had similar experiences cleaning DS's room. He's not afraid of spiders, just untidy.

I am feeling better today and have been drinking lots of water to help flush out the radioactive marker. DH prudently decided to sleep in DD's room last night.

DS is at a graduation party for one of his mates from high school. He and DH got haircuts together yesterday, which was sorely needed for DS. I love the fact that they get their hair cut together.

Good news on the strawberries. I checked the website for the pick your own farm last night and they had opened some reservations for Sunday, so we're going tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning. It's supposed to get hot tomorrow, but the morning should be fine. DH picked up some heavy cream and desert shells at the supermarket so we'll have the strawberries with whipped cream tomorrow night.

I just booked my ticket for the Botanical Garden. I'll be spending a day looking at trees, flowers and especially cacti.

DD and her friend are on a tour of different museums (1st Sunday of every month is free entry) and DS is "relaxing".

HelenaJustina · 05/06/2022 11:27

We had a fabulous time at the party, weather cleared just as we arrived and got better and better all afternoon. Unfortunately does not look like the same is going to happen for the street party on our road this afternoon!

Trip sounds amazing silkie have a great time. Are you off to the Botanical gardens today Prok?
