Glad your party went well, Helena. Have fun at the gardens, Prok.

We're off shortly to the farm. It's a lovely early summer morning. It's about a 40-minute drive but through lovely countryside and hills. They have a farm store there with fabulous baked goods, so I hope to get some apple caramel bread to go with the strawberries.

Silkie And I hope your day will be great, too!

Great pictures, Silkie and Prok.

It was a beautiful drive through the country to the farm. The strawberries are delicious, and so tender and sweet compared to the ones in the supermarket. Alas, there was no apple caramel bread at the farm store, but we did get a homemade pound cake and some cinnamon sugar donuts. The pound cake will go perfectly with the strawberries and some whipped cream.

We got there pretty early, but by the time we left, there were lots of families with small children there to pick berries. I think those are apple trees in the field adjacent to the strawberries.

Hurrah for a golden trip silkie so glad it has been a success so far.

The pick-your-own sounds lovely Miss I think pound cake is similar to our Madeira cake but apple caramel bread sounds intriguing.

The street party is going with a swing, though I’ve come home to collect more layers… it’s freezing out there though dry at least

Plastichanger · 05/06/2022 21:16

Those strawberries look lovely, Miss. We had some amazing ones from Morrisons a few days ago.

Silkies, it sounds like you are having a lovely break.

halfpasteleven · 05/06/2022 22:43

Apple caramel bread!! Can't say I've heard of it before but now I want some..
We love anything caramel in this house..
Miss sounds like a perfect way to spend a morning- we don't have this in Ireland - wish we did..

Helena was at a match today and it was c

halfpasteleven · 05/06/2022 22:45

Hit the post button by accident!

It was cold and rainy at the match and I wished I had extra layers..

Silkie* your trip looks fab- I'm glad you got to see the puffins and seals.

MissConductUS · 05/06/2022 23:00

Welcome, @Plastichanger and thanks for sharing your news. I had heard that fresh berries would be in short supply in the UK, so I'm glad you found some nice ones at Morrisons. The farm we went to is located in Dutchess County, New York.

Halfpast, the apple caramel bread is indeed the food of the gods.
I asked about it at the till but I don't think the cashier knew what I was talking about.

Helena, it seems that pound and Madeira cake are the same things. According to this, the recipe is originally from colonial times in America.

Where ‘Pound Cake' comes from and why it has nothing to do with British Pound Sterling!

Here's a better picture of some of the strawberries and the pound cake. DS says that these are the best strawberries we've ever picked there, and we've been going there for years.

Lovely puffin photos, Silkies. I would love to see a colony up close but I'm not at my best on small craft in open seas.

Had a lazy weekend, with some kitchen rearranging in the afternoon today thanks to an electrical problem on the wall where the dishwasher and microwave are plugged in. I tried tripping the circuit breakers in the basement to no avail, so I moved the microwave, but the dishwasher is obv stuck where it is. DD4 suggested I could take a chance on an extension cord (the dishwasher is plugged in under the kitchen sink) and plug it into one of the other kitchen sockets. I don't like to use extension cords for major appliances, though it would be for a cycle of just over an hour if I used the 'normal wash' option. I have paper plates and I think that's preferable. LL will be getting a call tomorrow after I give the circuit breakers another try.

Sitting at a trampoline park with DC3, their best friend and DC4. I wish I was watching puffins instead!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/06/2022 13:55

Back from the Botanical Garden. Green and quiet - apart from around the frog biotope Grin. It is part of a university department of the FU, so they do not do entertainment only teaching. The amount of stuff I do not know about plants is depressing and life's getting shorter every day.

Some lovely photos.
First day back at work after holiday. We went on a dolphin spotting boat trip, it was brilliant.
I've made chicken & chick peas tagine for tea (in a Pyrex dish) not sure what DH will make of it - he has very "traditional" tastes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/06/2022 19:00

Iwandered Sounds fine. DH is in the kitchen making hummus and I love my pyrex dishes. One of ours is from the late 1950ties, still with its original basket.

Plastichanger · 07/06/2022 22:18

Thank you for the welcome Miss

MissConductUS · 07/06/2022 23:52

For you Pyrex fans, I recommend a visit to the Corning Museum of Glass. They have a section on their website dedicated to Pyrex,

pyrex.cmog.org/

Of course, an in-person visit would be better, but Corning, New York is a bit of a trip from the UK or Europe.

I had two avian sightings today. I saw the heron having a walkabout in the woods and a duckling with the mum duck on the spillway. This is the first duckling sighting. I was relieved to see that the water wasn't going over the spillway too fast, as it could easily wash away the duckling.

Thanks everyone. Puffins were so lovely but then back to reality with 9th chemo on Monday which was rather stressful with receptionist from different team having a rant, and DDs GCSEs restarted and was running late so DH took over. But chemo is done, 3 to go and GCSEs going well and MrFloof spent his first night with me, normally he is catnapped by DD but keeping her calm so working his magic.

The lovely charity that has given us week in Cornwall has said DD can bring a friend so some excited planning going on. Discovered today that MrFloof can get over baby gate, no he does not jump it he claws his way up the door frame. Today he was playing leapfrog with rabbit jumping over him. Rabbit is a bit enjoying it and a bit what is this creature so has to be monitored.

We have disvovered that one of the baby silkies does not climb the ladder down she flies out, other one still needs DH to carry down but makes happy noises when he does.

Gcse in maths and economics so far this week with english lit poetry then physics then english language rest of week then 2 more weeks of 5.

MrFloof has decided he can have a big boy diet and today ate some of my salmon he was licking his licks really wide looking like cat that got the cream then dh walked in and he shut his mouth quickly and turned his back like no strict parent nothing to see here. 😂

Silkierabbit · 08/06/2022 00:30

Glad you had a lovely dolphin spotting trip Iwandered

Glad you had nice street party Helena

Botanical gardens sounds nice Prok

Yes its difficult to see puffins close without a boat trip though was fairly calm Math. I love boat trips and have a strong stomach but yes a bit hard to see without. Can see at cliffs herr but not close.

MissConductUS · 08/06/2022 00:49

I'm glad you're done with chemo, Silkie and had such a nice trip.

The orthopedic surgeon rang me at 7:15 to tell me that my nuclear medicine bone scan last Friday came back normal, so no tumor or infection. We had a nice chat, discussed my case and treatment plan. What a lovely man.

Silkierabbit · 08/06/2022 01:00

That's great it came back clear MissC I am only done with chemo for the week, 3 more weeklies to go but getting there.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/06/2022 06:29

Glad your scan results were good MissC.

wow your trip looks lovely Silkie 😀

Back in work after the half term break. Very busy term this no idea where I’m going to fit everything in.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/06/2022 06:30

When not where!

DS has his jabs today. I hope it’s not the one nurse who does a jab then writes the label for the next one before doing it. I would rather get them all done in one go instead of prolonging it.
