Sending love DrB

Silkierabbit · 29/05/2022 21:14

Today we had a Sunday roast which was lovely though DH mixed the mint sauce and gravy which always seems wrong to me. It was lovely anyway. Apple crumble and custard for dessert.

DH bought me some lovely fudge from the special handmade fudge shop and also bought DS a box of it as I asked to say well done again for his mocks. DD claims she does not like fudge. DH said he bought me one as well as its Mothers Day. I was a bit puzzled but its Mothers Day in France. I ate one slice of Belgian chocolate swirl fudge. DH said DS did not react. I said that is strange as he loves fudge. Anyway DH went down later and discovered DS had eaten all 4 slices of it. 😆 The slices are pretty big and half cream they are very addictive but I would not eat more than 1 slice a day. Not sure how many grams are in a slice, maybe 250 grams or so. Though DH was very happy that DS loved it.

Chemo tomorrow round 8 assuming can get cannula in. Still have my 5 bruises but they are improving. Got my dexa bone results in and not too bad just shows oestopenia, was expecting oestoporosis from ct results and its the stage before and not that bad at all. Getting breathless but think its the hayfever asthma thingy again.

Mr Floof has been cuddling me. I am person he goes to for cuddles, he seems to do DD for playing, me for cuddles and DH is sometimes food. He was quite purry today. DD gave him his first bath but he was scared, maine coons are supposed to love water but nope, and he was so tiny, went to a third his size, he must be 2/3rds fluff. He ran and hid by me after but I told DD to give him kitten tuna and he went back with her ate his tuna and they are now snuggling together. DH is still helping the new silkies up and down from the house as they have not worked out how to climb, dh cuddles them and the one loves it very much and dh is very proud of that. Trying to get quotes to fit DD a new laminate floor as she has carpet but has trashed it with hair dye etc, not worth getting an expensive floor but better to have a more cleanable floor.

Am looking up things to do in Cornwall and looking at the Minark theatre on the coast.

Silkierabbit · 29/05/2022 21:16

Sorry Minack www.minack.com/minack-theatre

Lemonsandlemonade · 29/05/2022 21:39

Just checking in.

Hope Chemo goes ok tomorrow Silkie and that they can get the cannula in. I’m with your DH re gravy with mint sauce in it.

Hope you’re ok DrB.

DS was supposed to be having a picnic with his little friends tomorrow for his first birthday which is later this week. I had to cancel as today he had a temperature of 41.4 and wouldn’t come down. Rang 111 who said give Calpol then Ibuprofen and ring back if it didn’t come down which It did thankfully.

MissConductUS · 29/05/2022 21:53

I hope things pick up for you soon, DrB.

Beautiful picture, Prok.

Silkie, a laminate floor is the way to go. We put one in 15 years ago and it still looks lovely. Very easy to clean, too. Did Mr Floof get into some mud or something? Cats generally are self-cleaning.

Math, my deck garden is coming together as well. I had to ask DH to get me a third large bag of potting soil yesterday.

We finally had a lovely, sunny day here after some terrible thunderstorms yesterday. The men did yard work and I cleaned and had a nap. We're having burgers on the grill for dinner tonight.

The pick-your-own farm near us opens next weekend and I am going to try to make reservations for Saturday morning to pick strawberries. I heard on one of The Economist podcasts that Britain is expecting an acute berry shortage this year as most of the fruit pickers are Ukrainians, who aren't expected to show up for obvious reasons. The bloke they interviewed from the British Summer Fruits organization was quite in a state about it. We can send you some of ours if it gets bad. Oh, and California bing cherries are in the supermarket and they are huge, juicy, and sweet.

Thanks Lemons. Hope your ds is feeling better soon and can enjoy his birthday. Hopefully can have party later.

Not entirely sure why DD was giving Mr Floof his first bath MissC he has only been indoors so no mud though has been in teenage bedroom pre cleaners. I asked DH why and he said DD just said she was making him smell nicer. She felt very bad after, think she expected him to like it and he was scared and she got a shock how small he is, we all did, minus fluff.

DH has put out recyling bin with lots of cardboard in. I checked out fudge size 700g in a packet, slices are 700 calories each so today DS ate 2800 calories of fudge, sunday lunch, crumble and custard, a crumpet, and pasta. 🙀 Normally we have to worry about him not eating enough as he never eats at school. Mr Floof us desperate to try real food but he has to wait to 4 months.

MissConductUS · 29/05/2022 23:03

Lemons, we cross posted. Happy almost birthday to your DS. Take lots of pictures. Is his doctor concerned about the frequency of his fevers?

MissConductUS · 30/05/2022 18:58

I was doing some work on the deck and noticed the frog on the chair, on one of the new cushions. Actually, the cat noticed it first. He later jumped off and changed his coloring to gray to better match the paint on the deck. I don't know if this is the same frog that wintered on my aloe plant or not.

It's Memorial Day here, so DH and I are home with DS.

The second picture looks like a crocodile from afar Missconduct. No the doctor isn’t fussed as he is eating and drinking normally. His temperature was back up to 41.7 tonight after being slightly high most of day.

Have to pop to work to feed the tadpoles and water the plants. The tadpoles will be released very soon.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/05/2022 19:45

Miss Lovely!

Cold and windy here. It can't be the "Schafskälte" (sheep cold) as it is too early. My borrage and hollyhocks are about to blossom.
Tomorrow at 10:30 am is DS's (hopefully) last exam.

Silkierabbit · 30/05/2022 20:56

Hope you enjoyed your day together MissC.

Hope exam goes well Prok

Hope your DS is better soon Lemons

Chemo day here week 8 done out of 12 and nurse got cannula in first time. I did drink 4 drinks before which helped but she also seemed very good.

Arrived back and came through garden and said hello to Silkies currently Ruth and Barbara can get down by themselves but Carol is not the most intelligent of birds and this morning was sitting blocking the route down looking confused. Dh took her down and other two did it by themselves.

Have arranged a laminate floor fitter for Wed 9am for DD and a special collection to take old carpet and underlay for next Thursday. Apparently the carpenter only speaks Spanish, think that will be fine as his colleague has explained and French is quite similar and should not be much to explain. I just hope when DH got the laminate and underlay a year ago he got enough as bet they dont stock it anymore. I told dh room size plus 10% but he hates spending so hope he did not mismeasure room or not add 10%. Asked DD to check what she has as its in her room but she is half asleep. So will need to clear her room before but at least cleaners did her room so its just bed, desk, bookcase and chest of drawers to move out and mr floofs stuff. Her wardrobe us built in.

MissConductUS · 30/05/2022 21:49

Lemons, it does look a bit like a crocodile. By the way, the frog is still in the picture with the cat sitting on the chair. It's good of you to think of the tadpoles.

Silkie, another reason to order extra laminate flooring is to have a few spare pieces in case one is badly scratched or damaged after installation. The exact same color and style may not be available in the future. We have some extras in the basement for this reason.

Here's where the planters are so far. I'm doing more flowers and less veg this year, but there is one cherry tomato plant in there.

I’ve emerged from the end of the half term relatively unscathed. Busy weekend and then went to work to clear some big jobs off the list. Went in at 08:25 and left at 19:35 which was longer than intended but am hoping for a decent break the rest of the week.
DC have spent the last couple of days bombing round the village probably irritating the neighbours with friends who live here and sitting out in the road chatting until 9 at night. Need to clean the bathrooms but struggling to summon the enthusiasm.

Silkierabbit · 31/05/2022 18:19

Planters look nice MissC

Hope you can get a rest at some point Helena

I think we will have enough laminate flooring though its tight but I think it is no longer stock, DD through all the boxes out so we don't know what type it is but nothing matches were we got it from. It will only be 2 years before DD goes to university so it does not need to last that long with high use (and hair dye) so think will be OK. Fitter in at 9am tomorrow and clearing her room tonight. Also DH and DS go to dentist, they actually have an NHS appointment after almost 2 years of none. Not sure its worth the saving tbh.

Making plans for Cornish holiday with DD, she wants to bring a friend but have to check if we can do that with charity, says no changes. Am checking with hospital and school as well its OK as its taking DS out of school for just over a week. 1.43am DD came in with her plans for Cornwall, woke DH up.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/05/2022 20:17

You would not believe what strange things engineers get up to when left alone with an excel sheet (fonts, logos, formats, combining cells because they do not know how to break lines and so on), and then when you've got it all ready to meet the world - no, stop they cry there is a mistake. Grin

Silkierabbit · 01/06/2022 09:42

DD and DH cleared her room this morning whilst I had Mr Floof. It was very exciting for Mr Floof. Now 2 men are here laying the flooring also fascinating for Mr Floof but they are a bit noisy for him with their hoover and drill.

mathanxiety · 01/06/2022 17:16

DrB hope all is well.

I have caught a summer cold. We had a really noisy thunderstorm last night, with a lot of lightning. Dcat spent the night hiding behind the loo.

HelenaJustina · 01/06/2022 18:01

Did you manage to fix it prok? I’m okay with excel but nowhere near as good as the management accountant from the central team, he is super whizzy.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/06/2022 18:58

Helena Yes, in the end everything had the correct content and looked professional. Smile

DS had his last exam, now he thinks he is on leave until the 17th when preliminary results are published. There is a chance of additional orals. And when he has got his grades he has to think about what to do next.

MissConductUS · 01/06/2022 20:15

Thanks, Silkie. If you look at the side of the green planter there is a rectangular opening a few inches above the bottom. There is a water reservoir you fill-up through that opening and the water is drawn up into the soil. I can usually go two or three days before it needs filling.

Math, we've had a couple of really strong thunderstorms in the last week here too. I don't know where the cats hide. Sorry to hear about your summer cold.

Prok, we have academic drama at home too. DS waited until the last possible moment to submit his summer course registration, so of course there are problems. He was planning on taking five three credit courses. He's now found out that the uni limits students to three courses in the summer. If he wants to get all 15 course credits this summer, he'll have to take two courses elsewhere. He's looking.

Also, we've overpaid, as everything was so last minute we paid enough money for five courses into his account, and will now have to get the uni to refund the excess. I'm going to leave it to DH and DS to sort out.

I did see what I thought was a duck way out in the middle of the reservoir today, but it was too far away to take a decent picture.

Silkierabbit · 01/06/2022 23:47

Hope your cold gets better soon Math

Glad exams are over Prok 3 weeks to go here after half term finishes this weekend.

DDs flooring is done, took 2 men from 9am to 2pm to do it, good to have it done and Mr Floof thought it was excellent entertainment and her old carpet rolled up was a great cat tunnel. But was a bit full on having a hyper Mr Floof with me. He also has decided that kittens should not have to wait to 4 months to get non kitten food and keeps trying to grab food. He is super purry atm. Then DH went to dentist, DS refused to go though that is OK. Bit of tidying up done and carpet now in back garden ready for special collection next Thursday but more tidying to do tomorrow. The workmen did hoover a lot at least.

DD is now nagging for a new double bed. DH is no. So I am being targeted as the weaker parent with look at Mr Floof does he not deserve a double bed. And she wants to take her friend to Cornwall with us and is giving lots of instructions on that.

Have to move furniture back and clean more tomorrow but good house is getting sorted.

Silkierabbit · 01/06/2022 23:50

DD also got offered the punting job, its a zero hour contract but £10 an hour plus holiday pay and tips so not bad at 16. Plus its nice work. Starts after GCSEs finish.

MissConductUS · 02/06/2022 15:50

Silkie, congratulations to your DD on her job offer. What is the nature of a punting job? "punting" clearly has a different meaning in American English. Well done getting the floor done. I can see how a rolled-up carpet would be a good cat tunnel. We still have the box tunnel in our hallway and the cats still dash through it from time to time.

Warmest best wishes to the Queen on the occasion of her platinum jubilee this weekend. The Queen is much loved and admired here.

Tomorrow I'll be at the hospital for a good part of the day for a nuclear medicine bone scan to investigate something they couldn't identify on the MRI of my lower back a few weeks ago. I have to take a radioactive tracer substance, then wait for three hours for them to do the scan. The hospital is too far from home or work to make it worth leaving and returning, so I guess I'll have to watch Netflix on my Kindle while I wait.

The anomaly is unlikely to be anything serious, but it has to be investigated just in case.

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 02/06/2022 16:10

Hope it goes OK at hospital MissC

Punting is like this

www.viator.com/tours/Cambridge/Punting-Tour-in-Cambridge/d22327-7386P1

I cleaned the upstairs bathroom today and DH hoovered the floor upstairs and is now making a late lunch of spaghetti bolognese. Mr Floof is very happy, trilling away and purring, he is also now stalking DH as he is cooking.

DoctorTwo · 02/06/2022 16:48

It is indeed the jubbly this weekend MissC. I am celebrating it by listening to Test Match Special. I will be getting Chicken Pathia with a side order of chips later, just to keep things 'British'. Or maybe Garlic Chicken, not sure yet.
