Welcome CharlotteSt Glad your outfits co-ordinate. I have been invited to a May Bumps garden party at Cambridge Uni with the family and have lots of lovely dresses but used to always wear them with heels and now am doing chemo can only do flats and have been wearing trainers. But have 3 weeks to solve this and nice issue to have.

Lovely bird photos Sprouts, Lemons and MissC

Glad things have worked out so well for your DS MissC and you had a lovely trip.

Hope exams went well Prok

Glad you had good weekends Half and Nydj

Today was my 7th chemo so another one done, and still on half steroids and feeling so much better than before with that and on 90% chemo and neuropathy is just mild. 5 to go in theory, cannula was a bit tricky but worked. Did bloods and they are not too bad.

DD has 5 GCSE exams this week but Mr Floof is keeping her super calm if not helping her sleep as he sleeps on her pillow. I am also suspicious of being a bestie to DD Helena as normally a request for large sums of money comes shortly after. This time its a new double bed for her and Mr Floof, not a bad idea but not cheap. She is still waiting to hear back about the punting summer job, interview was good experience and does not matter too much either way as she is only 16. Mr Floof and her are deeply in love. She sends me loads of messages about him every day as well as coming for updates and photos and calls him her baby.

Great news with DS, found out today he appears to have sat 7 GCSE subject mocks and passed 6, and 7th should pass with a couple more marks. He was expected to fail all but maths as he has not written or spoken since last January other than numbers. The grades are down on his potential and he won't be happy with them but considering he has also missed half his lessons and done no homework they are amazing and if he does that next year should be able to get onto 3 A levels like he wants in Maths, FM (he got an 8 in maths) and physics (he got a 6, should go to a 7) and not been to a single physics lesson or done any at home this year, max is an 8 in these, 9 next summer and normally goes up 1 over a year. Around a 7 is needed for A levels but some will take with a 6. School are arranging a dog therapist and NHS SALT waiting list, probably will be nothing via SALT but worth a try. He has 5 other subjects, they do so many there, he has 12, most UK schools do 8 or 9 and am trying to establish what happened in those. I think 2 out of 5 was not have been tested, maybe he refused 2 and 1 may be being added later or he refused. I am asking for clarification and what lessons he is in. Talking to LA Head of Stat Assessment on Thursday but this is first sign of hope we have had in a year and a half really. Well apart from things we did.

Special collection on Wed for a broken mirror DD has and 6 rubbish sacks which we have to make tomorrow. Then on Saturday now cleaner is coming for second one off, well 2 cleaners for 4 hours they suggested, DH was moaning about price and was more time than I wanted and cost but they were so good last time and we really need it. It includes DD and DS rooms and they are right to add lots of time especially if they brave under DSs sofa.

Feeling very drowsy from chemo piriton.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/05/2022 09:00

That is such good news Silkie well done DS!

MissConductUS · 24/05/2022 14:20

Welcome, @CharlotteSt , and thanks for sharing your calming sartorial news. If you were on the very first thread that was quite some time ago.

Lovely pictures, Sprouts. I don't think I've ever seen a wagtail before.

Silkie, the requests for money only get bigger as they get older. DD wants the car DS is driving, which means helping him buy a new one. Well done to your DS.

DH and DS made pizza last night together, for the first time in ages. That was nice to see.

Second lot of antibiotics start tonight hope they work, in head mentally feeling much happier.

mathanxiety · 24/05/2022 17:08

Great news of DS, Silkies. Wishing you well for your meeting on Thursday. The therapy dog sounds promising given DS' love of all things fluffy and soft.

MissC I have heard those rules reviewed at every graduation I've been to, including high school, but once they're past the Bs the floodgates open. We are in the last quarter of the alphabet and it's been hard to hear any of the names by the time they get there, though they did mix it up for DD2's graduation. If I had known, I would have managed to take more photos of her getting her parchment. The little voice of temptation in my head whispers something along the lines of, 'If you can't beat them, join them'...

150 credit hours is a lot, but it's nice to be able to squeeze them in during the summer and before getting stuck into work. I talked DD3 into getting a double major instead of a major + minor so her summer will be spent doing two summer courses which are prerequisites for the courses she needs to get that second major completed in the coming year.

Silkierabbit · 24/05/2022 20:22

Thanks all, so relieved to have progress on ds at last and writing exam papers after a year and a quarter of not writing a single word. Phew. We told him congrats, he hid under duvet, embarrasding parents, and had a celebratory indian meal which we all enjoyed.

Dd had French gcse.

I got ds a taster sixth form day.

Now sorting rubbish for special collection.

Nydj · 24/05/2022 20:50

Well done to your DS, Silkies - what a star!

We had green beans and potato curry and chapatis for dinner - made more interesting by trying to teach DS how to make chapatis.

IWanderedLonely · 24/05/2022 21:30

Evening all, sorry not to mention anyone personally, have been trying to follow whilst having my grandchildren (& the dog) + the usual, whilst DD's been to and fro between midwives, scans & consultants.
Anyway in not dull (to me) news, I have a brand new, gorgeous tiny, 4 weeks early granddaughter. Had my first cuddle tonight.

Silkierabbit · 24/05/2022 21:39

Thanks Nydj Food sounds nice

Congrats Iwandered hope your DD is OK. My DD was 3 weeks early, nearly 4 weeks but managed to keep her in a few days longer.

halfpasteleven · 24/05/2022 23:10

Your DS is super Silkie, hope you all enjoyed the Indian to celebrate.

Silkierabbit · 25/05/2022 11:54

Pinklimey · 25/05/2022 12:39

Currently in hospital. Sporting many track marks on my arms because it took 21 tries to get a cannula in. Now they have told me they are going to search for another vein for bloods 😰

Silkierabbit · 25/05/2022 12:53

Sorry to hear that Pink. Hope you can get back home soon. I also have 5 bruises on 1 arm from chemo cannulas. Here are 2 out of 5.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
DrBrennerFan · 25/05/2022 13:17

I feel, for you cannulas they really hurt don’t they that bruise looks horrific hugs both 0f you.

mathanxiety · 25/05/2022 15:41

Ouch Pinklimey - that looks really sore.

Iwandered - lovely news.

I refilled the hummingbird feeder this morning as it was almost empty. I haven't seen any hummingbirds there, but I don't think anything else has been drinking the sugar water. Anyway, as I was putting the feeder back into the tree off the deck, a hummingbird buzzed right past my nose.

Silkierabbit · 25/05/2022 15:46

How lovely to see a hummingbird Math

The cannulas don't hurt me at all at least just leave bruises.

Nydj · 25/05/2022 18:32

How wonderful, Iwandered and lucky you to have been able to cuddle your new granddaughter! I hope your daughter is doing well now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/05/2022 21:17

Lonlycloud Wonderful news and Silkie Great about your DS
My boss threw a bbq for us and our families at this place and we had a lovely time. I did not realize there were so many babies and toddlers (and pregnant women). Several ex-co-workers came and some OAPs were there as well. I was accompanied by my DD. We went home through the park and I went on the swings (for adults 😀)

MissConductUS · 25/05/2022 21:17

Iwandered, congratulations on your granddaughter!

Pink, 21 attempts? I get an IV infusion by cannula 6 times a year. The nurse has three tries to get it inserted properly. If no success by then, I politely request that someone else give it a go. My veins are pretty easy, but some nurses have the touch to do this and some don't.

Silkie, bruising like that is fairly common and not concerning.

Math, I'm jealous. I don't usually see hummingbirds until July. I don't put out a special feeder for them though. Perhaps I should.

The heron is still with us.

Congratulations Iwandered how exciting! The newborn bit is my very best bit and I do miss it in an ovary-aching kind of way.

Great news re DS silkie you must be so proud. Likewise I’m so pleased the graduation was a success Miss

We haven’t got hummingbirds but we have got house martins nesting above the garage again, their migration is extraordinary and it is nice to see them back.

Work is bonkers, the deadline for teachers to hand in their notice is 31 May and drawing up a staffing scenario when you can’t be sure who you have is challenging.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/05/2022 12:17

Moths - DD found a number of flying clothes' moths in her room. We cleaned it thoroughly but found no eggs or larvae. Then I checked on my stash of cloth, but nothing.
It is a holiday today (Himmelfahrt), which I planned to spend on more enjoyable things.

Silkierabbit · 26/05/2022 17:31

Glad you had a nice BBQ Prok we also have lots of insects atm but not sure why. Though Mr Floof is most impressed at some many cat toys.

Hope things calm a bit at work Helena and half term is not too far off. Ours starts on Friday night and will be glad to reach it too as that is the end of DDs first 2 weeks of exams for GCSEs, she had one today (RE) which was fine and has 2 tomorrow (Chemistry and Computing).

Lovely Heron MissC looks a bit like a film scene.

We have 2 young silkies arriving tomorrow between 3.30pm and 6.30pm which means our current indoor one can get back out with the better weather as well. One white bearded, one silver bearded. Apparently non bearded are feisty the company said and bearded are gentle. I hope Ruth will get along with them but she has always been desperate for babies sitting on all the hens eggs so hopefully she will think she made two and love them. All the old silkies got on well.

DH is just going to clear the chicken run outside and move it to closer to the house and then it will be all ready for tomorrow's chicken arrival. Then Saturday we have 2 cleaners coming who will restore the living room and DDs bedroom and do the downstairs again. Mr Floof has been quite hyper but DH was happy that Mr Floof came for a cuddle on the bed with him and DH also played with him. DH is weakening, he was beaming with pride that Mr Floof wanted him. He did give Mr Floof his lunch after his own but he learnt that is not sensible.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/05/2022 18:08

Silkie I hope Ruth likes her new flock mates!
Mr.Floof is training his new staff well Smile
We still have not found a mate for NDN bereft cat. The cat that died made it to 17 years and yet NDN is denied a cat by the cat shelter-ladies for "safety" reasons. She is looking for an adult indoor cat.
My find of the week - church records of 1659 (I know this will be way too calm for most people, so I stop here.)

DrBrennerFan · 26/05/2022 20:00

Today can die.

MissConductUS · 26/05/2022 20:51

Silkie, the reservoir is a lovely setting. It could be a film scene. Great news about the new chickens. I wouldn't trust my cats around them. They are way too focused on chasing birds.

I saw the heron catch a fish today, but it was too quick to get a photo.

DrB, are you having a bad day? Still under the weather?

DS went out to lunch with two of his mates from high school who are still in the area, so that's nice.
