Sorry to hear about your MRI results MissC

DD is back had 2 exams today and has now taken over Mr Floof which is good as he is lovely but he has more energy than me on chemo.

I said to DH to get something for DS to eat now as he never eats at school and he said every day I give him a ham sandwich but he never eats it after school. Then DH said I wonder if he does not like ham sandwiches. Grin He certainly seems to like scones, the whole pack disappear at once but he eats them plain so not too unhealthy. He is so thin just happy when he eats.

Drinking lime cordial and fizzy water, its quite warm here by UK standards today.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/05/2022 18:36

@MissConductUS it’s an in ear one they use in nursery. DS has been fine all afternoon after a long sleep. He has been full of energy.

Sorry the MRI wasn’t the news you wanted but wow at the speed.

Managed to get in touch with health visitor as she saw me as she passed in the car and rang when she got back to the office. She seeing DS in a couple of weeks. Just to check his weight and look how his toes are curling inwards. She is a very good health visitor but is retiring soon.

HildaTablet · 18/05/2022 18:57

<waves at everyone>

I've enjoyed catching up with the thread and particularly the news of Mr Floof, who looks both spectacular and adorable, Silkie.

Sorry your MRI didn’t return better news, MissC. Hopefully the steroid and physio option could bring some relief in the short term at least, and you have the option to go down the surgery route - it’s encouraging that it has a good success rate.

DH and I are very busy tending to the demands of our resident blackbird, who for the second spring in a row is raising chicks somewhere in the garden. She flies down to our garden door and stands looking impatient until we supply her with suet sprinkles (she scorns everything else, though today she nicked a bit of strawberry from the tortoise). It’s reached the stage where she flies down approximately every 2 minutes so I expect the chicks are really running her ragged.
This afternoon DH was doing something in the garden room with the door open and when he turned round Mrs Blackbird was standing inside looking at him with extreme annoyance as if to say WHERE ARE MY SNACKS?? Grin

MissConductUS · 18/05/2022 19:58

Lemons, I'm very pleased at the speed too, but I think I had a bit of luck with those appointments. I've just found out that it will be a few weeks before I can get the physio or pain management appointments. Some areas are backed up more than others. When covid started to become less of an issue a lot of people who had been postponing care started trying to book it. Generally, it's not a struggle to get medical care here.

I was taking my walk around the reservoir this afternoon and saw this fellow. He (she?) was likely the bird I saw diving for fish last week.

Looks like a beautiful 'Reiher' to me (but I may be wrong).
It is lovely weather here and I spent my days at the office 10 h on Monday and 10 h yesterday.
And - having demonstrated to DH that my hair is too thin to let it grow - I'll be at the hairdresser's on Friday.

Silkierabbit · 18/05/2022 20:32

Glad health visitor is coming Lemons

Mr Floof waves back at you Hilda just doing his kitten yoga atm.

Lovely bird MissC

Hope haircut goes well Prok

DH has mowed the lawn. Tomorrow have oncologist at 9.20am then Head of stat assessment at 2.30pm. DD has history GCSE and orthodontist.

MissConductUS · 18/05/2022 22:33

DD just spotted a turkey hen in our side yard. You probably can't see them in the grass to the left of her, but she has at least six hatchlings following her around.

Today must be my day for bird sightings.

DS came up for a bath. DD was going downstairs to fetch something when DS left the bath. Mr Floof came out to see what was happening but decided DS in his onesie and silent was scary and jumped into my room and hid under the bed. DD came to see what was going on and Mr Floof started purring so loud the whole street could probably hear him. He was not moving from my room but DD wanted him so she picked him up and took him with her and two of them are happily snuggled together now.

HildaTablet · 18/05/2022 23:23

Yes, Prok, Reiher = Heron. Beautiful birds.

mathanxiety · 19/05/2022 05:02

Several of my neighbours have garden ponds which are regularly visited by herons, or possibly the same heron.

Sorry to hear about the back problems, MissC and Lemons. I hope you'll get effective treatment.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/05/2022 07:17

DDog2 (who is highly strung at the best of times) has a mortal fear of herons standing in water. If they take off, spindly legs dangling and clattering wings, she stands there with a look of utter bemusement on her face, as if it's the most preposterous thing she's ever seen. She's 8 years old and it still makes me chuckle.

I also have a haircut today. I'm a bit overgrown as my hairdresser had the temerity to book other people in on my last set of rest days 😉

As we're doing bird news, a quick early morning check of our feeder gives us two goldfinches, a greenfinch and approximately 200 sparrows. We also have house martins and swallows galore. While I won't miss the walk to the pub isolation, I will definitely miss the wildlife when we move.

DrBrennerFan · 19/05/2022 10:39

Hi everyone hugs to all of you, well after nearly two weeks of this cold I’m on antibiotics dh got down the drs and said about it got phone call so 1500 m a day for seven days one of the penicillin ones.

MissConductUS · 19/05/2022 14:12

We're off shortly. I just got DD out of bed. For some reason, she thought we were leaving tomorrow. It's fine, we're not in a great rush to get there.

Champagne, I think you get even more birds at your feeder than we do. DH has just topped it up. Hopefully, that will last until we return late Saturday.

Have a nice trip MissC

Glad you got some meds DrB

DD had history GCSE today which she said was meh so she said I may only get an 8 but am expecting a 9 and when she went through it sounded fine. Then orthodontist also fine and an interview for a summer job which gets back to her tomorrow. I have been kitten sitting all day and he has been non stop leaping around, purring, chasing his tail, doing back flips, climbing up curtains and now eating DDs revision cards but at least its maths tomorrow which is her strongest subject. Then nothing until Tuesday.

I also had oncologist meeting to discuss chemo, 6 more weeklies to do, 6 done and now reducing steroids as they make me anxious and meeting with Head of statutory assessment for DS.

DD is staying out all day tomorrow so I will have a long day of kitten sitting, lovely but I want to sleep. At least 6 GCSE exams down now / 21 to go.

Just had a salad and will now have some Roquefort and apple. Its a lovely warm day here.

Nydj · 19/05/2022 21:00

I hope those of you who are suffering with your health feel better very soon.

Have a wonderful time at the graduation, Miss. I think I will burst with pride at DS’s graduation when it finally happens.

DrBrennerFan · 19/05/2022 21:34

Thank you those who sent well well wishes I’m worn out with this illness just had a sneezing fit last tablet for today then start again tomorrow.

cakewitch · 19/05/2022 21:59

I'm happy tonight. I did a bit of yoga in the sunshine and listened to lovely music and drank a glass of wine.

HildaTablet · 19/05/2022 22:39

Hope your drive was uneventful, MissC, and that the back-pain sufferers are feeling a bit better.

I'm house-sitting for a friend and as usual their neighbour's cat has been round - he thinks he lives here anyway, and comes in swaggering around on a regular basis. But today he brought another, much more timid cat with him - his new housemate, we think - who I spotted out of the window sitting down at the end of the front garden. Every time I looked again he’d crept just a tiny bit further forward, and the end result of this cat version of Grandmother’s Footsteps was him sitting on the window ledge with his face practically pressed against the glass. I had to laugh, as he seems to be copying exactly what his friend does. I often wonder how cats communicate all this stuff between themselves.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2022 00:10

We made it here in good time. Traffic around Boston was slow, even in the afternoon. We're staying in a lovely Air B&B right by Massachusetts Bay. DS had a dinner and night out organized by the university so we had a takeaway.

The cat sitter texted DH to ask where the key was. We gave her a key, which she then found. She sent us a video of Dgirlcat. She will probably never see the boy cat.

Glad you made it and hope your evening is a nice one, MissC.

I was sitting by my PC desk earlier with a view of the kitchen out of the corner of my eye, when I half saw Dcat advancing along the windowsill and swiping at something near the counter. Next thing I knew there was a crash, and Dcat shot past me, ears back, eyes wild. So I went to investigate and found the bread board and my dear old Blue Willow teapot standing on the floor with its handle in three pieces and the lid broken in two. I also spotted the ant that Dcat had been swiping at when she knocked everything off the counter. Luckily I have two spare teapots to press into service, one yellow Lipton's Tea teapot and one Brown Betty teapot, both of which I bought in a thrift shop. I'll have to flip a coin tomorrow morning to decide which one to use for my cuppa. It seems ant season is upon us.

Champagneforeveryone · 20/05/2022 09:55

Hope you have an amazing day miss

Bad luck about the teapot math, DH would forgive ChampagneCat for any such act of vandalism in the blinking of an eye!

Raining here because I'm on rest days I suppose We had planned a trip to John Lewis and IKEA, but DH is hungover and sulky so it's probably not the best choice of activity. IKEA is not known for being conducive to harmonious marriages at the best of times 😆

MissConductUS · 20/05/2022 12:47

I was up early and had a lovely two mile walk by the bay. The place we're staying at has a keurig Coffee machine. I may have to get one. It's so much easier than putting the kettle on for that first cup.

DH is in the shower. We will have to pick a place for breakfast. We're planning on meeting DS for lunch and then there's an open house for families this afternoon in the academic support center. We will go and meet the staff and his current tutor.

We may be on our own again for dinner, but we have some relatives in the area who might be free.

It will be cool and cloudy today but sunny and blazing hot tomorrow for graduation. Fortunately it should be over by noon.

We went to our favorite diner in town for breakfast and I had a fabulous eggs Benedict. I think we're just relaxing until it's time to meet DS for lunch.

These are pictures of our Air B&B rental. The house was built in the 1920s and has been beautifully restored. I love the weather vane with the pig in the garden.

I made a lovely egg sandwich on toasted cob bread and relaxing now with a cuppa and my vape before wash my hair as going to put a colour in tomorrow to cover my roots as too expensive to go hairdresser every time. Dog is relaxing beside me and can feel the lovely breeze coming in the window. Looks lovely where you are enjoy your stay and relaxation.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2022 16:49

Welcome, @cakewitch and @BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants, and thanks for sharing your calming news. I color my roots myself too.

@mathanxiety , sorry to hear about your teapot. Our cats generally ignore insects.
