Must be lovely to have your DD home MissC Glad MRI went well.

2 meetings on Friday wore me out but at least they are done, last one was 2.5 hours. Head of current school is making helpful suggestions at least now and being nice, head of statutory assessment was OK but said there's no money and schools have plenty of money. I think not but at one point she did say I could add £10k (to his £4k which goes on general staff autism training) and she asked to have weekly meetings with me.

DD has catnapped Mr Floof and the two are glued to each other. I call Mr Floof her baby and DH she got cross with as he calls her the big sister and she says it is her baby. Mr Floof is very much enjoying his role of needy newborn and any second DD is out of his sight he calls her and she returns. I have chemo tomorrow and was worried about Mr Floof as its normally 5 hours and he's very little and DH takes me, DD is first day of GCSEs and DS at school. DD has found one of her friends who has a Maine Coon cross already to kitten sit for the day.

DH announced that the silkie was to return outside as silkie and rabbit fell out over food, mainly rabbits desire to eat all the silkies food then all his own. Now its better weather should be fine but don't want her alone so DH said to order 2 more silkies. That is done. He did say he would clear chickens outside run and move it and then clear the living room but his plans never got past the put on to do list and moan about to do list stage. Did get the final bit of ESA form from GP printed and sent back so that is done. Then its chemo and kitten sitter tomorrow.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2022 16:26

It didn't take Mr Floof long to settle in Smile

Well done on getting through the meeting marathon, Silkies. Fingers crossed you'll hear good news eventually. It sounds like a process of survival of the fittest and they are trying to batter you into submission.

The heat of last week has moved elsewhere. Today is gorgeous, the AC is off, and I can cook tonight without fear of melting.

MissConductUS · 16/05/2022 16:36

Math, we put on the central air yesterday for the first time. Thankfully it's working fine. It's supposed to get really hot this week while we're away so we'll leave it on for the cats.

Silkie, the one thing that dissuades me from getting a kitten is the amount of supervision they require. They really have a gift for getting into trouble. The older ones are so relaxed, especially in a heated cat bed.

We have been away for a couple of weeks but I have now caught up with the thread.

I’m glad that floofy kitten has arrived and is settling in well and that silkie will have more silkies for company soon. I hope your chemo went ok today, Silkies.

Miss it must be lovely to have your DD home for a few days and I hope your DS’s graduation ceremony goes well.

Prok I really did laugh out loud when I read about the excel spreadsheet for your plants!

Champagne did your passport arrive? I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you to win the lottery so that you can support your son at uni and have a lovely holiday abroad soon.

Doctortwo I do hope they Get to the root of your medical issue and resolve it.

DrBrennan I hope that things work out for you.

Helena are you ok? Being assaulted at work sounds awful.

i am still pondering what to make for dinner today.

Silkierabbit · 16/05/2022 18:56

Thanks Nydj hope you are fine and inspiration for dinner comes. I just decided I am having apple crumble and custard. My eating is weird today as its chemo day, I did manage for first time ever to get an NHS coronation chicken sandwich and digestive biscuits at chemo plus ate 4 Twister lollies, the lollies were vile but all coop had. The sandwich was fine, biscuits tasted weird too.

At least chemo is done, 6 down, 6 to go though DH arrived an hour and a half late for second time in a row which I did not cope well with. One lovely lady offered me some free notepads which I don't want so left them for others once she has gone but kind of her and a lady doing chemo offered to stay with me though told her I was fine as did not want her having to stay. Think it may be partly the steroids, they are saying I should stop them apart from one with chemo.

DD had first two GCSEs today though heard nothing about them other than she did them and 10 or so messages about Mr Floof, 5 videos and she apparently had a good day, little sleep last night. At least Mr Floof is relaxing her and her friend who looked after him today whilst I did chemo. The friend and Mr Floof appear to have had a great time. 5 more exams for her this week, I hope she sleeps tonight, I also did not sleep last night.

DH now has piano lesson then after Mr Floof goes to the vets as he had a funny eye when we got him, she said it was just as we arrived and would go but it has not.

Thanks Maths

Yes I had forgotten MissC how much like having a newborn a kitten is. Its lovely but non stop though DD has taken on the role full time when here and catnapped him and declared him her baby. The two are besotted with each other. Next four days will be interesting as its us with him whilst kids at school.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/05/2022 19:34

Cats are eternal two year olds.

I was at work from 8am to 6pm and then I spend an hour wiping aphids (Blattläuse) from my plants. As every year DS reminded me about their fascinating circle of reproduction. Grin

DB sent lovely fotos of Monte Carlo.

HelenaJustina · 16/05/2022 19:46

Which is why I don’t have any prok I had enough of 2yr olds when my 4 were that age!

thank you all for the sympathy last week, the assulter that’s not a word is only 7 so police intervention wouldn’t have been appropriate. But it’s surprising the damage they can inflict at that age when they are not inhibited by neurotypical socialising/norms. It’s a child in crisis and the system is failing them.

Had a busy weekend with an 18th birthday celebration and the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley (plus Eurovision obviously) but back to work with a bump this morning. Landing made slightly softer by the 2.5hrs I spent their on Saturday evening.

Have spent today ping-ponging from one thing to another at work, this has continued at home as DH isn’t due back until v late and Monday is a busy day chez Sproat for after-school activities. Only one more pick up to do - need to go make brownies for DC3’s birthday cake as it’s the big day tomorrow.

MissConductUS · 16/05/2022 20:12

Hi, Nydj, lovely to see you. I hope you had a good time away. Our dinner choice is set. It's Monday, so DH is making pizza for DD and I. This is assuming the power stays on. There is a massive line of thunderstorms moving in with high winds and hail in the forecast.

Silkie, good luck to your DD on her exams. I'm so glad those pre uni years are behind us.

I'm going to ring the doctor's office and see if they have the radiology report from my MRI on Friday.

I would say Mr Floof is at baby first learns to crawl and explore stage, you have wished for it for ages then you think its very cute but rather tiring. DD and DH said the kitten would not be able to get downstairs if they put the cat carrier as a baby gate upstairs. I was told I was wrong to think he would. Well guess who was right. Grin And because its blocked it becomes super attractive. Mr Floof came into my room looked like he wanted to play bat the computer wire then I saw an evil glint in his eyes. He was then found downstairs.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/05/2022 20:54

That was the age Sev developed his love for cables. He used to hunt them (even in bags) and kill them. He was always very proud of himself.

KathieFerrars · 16/05/2022 20:56

Just brushed fluffy hound. She has now huffed off in a sleepy heap. Felt really muzzy headed all today so hoping I will have a good night's zzzzzzzz tonight.

DoctorTwo · 16/05/2022 21:49

Thank you for your kind words Nydj, good wishes are always welcome.

Silkie Mr Floof is learning quickly about catting. He'll soon be boss of your house. Glad everything went your way today our kid. You deserve it.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/05/2022 23:53

Welcome back nydj 🙂

Passport did arrive and looks very suspicious, being flat, blue and shiny - rather like I've been given false papers 😆

Tomorrow is admin day for DS who has grown up things to do such as opening / upgrading bank accounts, and sorting first year accommodation. Thankfully I'm on nights so by the time I wake up it will hopefully be a done deal and I won't need to worry about the cost anymore - or, I will at least know what the costs are 😬

Silkierabbit · 17/05/2022 01:43

That's lovely about Sev Prok kittens are so much fun.

The vet loved Mr Floof and gave him eye drops and did a health check and said his fine, he looked at his Maine Coon certificates and said they are fine. He think he is not microchipped so we will need to get that done and he said the vaccine certificate was not filled in properly. He is relaxing DD to the point she almost forgets she has GCSEs and her brain is totally floofied. She has 7 exams this week, 2 today but said it was a lovely day as her friend and his Mum kitten sat whilst I did chemo and they sent her 5 videos and played with him all day. Mr Floof seems to have had an excellent day, its a shame I cannot share the videos of him playing on there but they also sent one of him in their cat tree. The friends Mum has a Maine Coon cross and she was totally in love as was DDs friend and she said going by the size of the paws he will be enormous so maybe there is something in the paw thing.

DD is supposed to be asleep but at 1.15am I got sent a sleepy Mr Floof picture. I hope DD will be joining him soon as she has an exam at 9am but its so cute.

Thanks so much DrTwo I hope all goes well for you too and they can sort things out.

Hope you get some sleep Kathie I am on steroid power at the moment so no sleep for me.

Well done on getting passport Champagne I think I got one of the last red ones though had 9 months added to it for sending it early which now have been wiped off.

Silkierabbit · 17/05/2022 09:57

DD has her biology exam this morning, first one then back home and DS is at school so we are on kitten duty.

The kitten has had a lovely time exploring everywhere and has been on the bed with me for the first time and had a 15 minute cuddle and he flooped on me and purred a lot and whistled. He licked my arm and my laptop, its true it needed a clean. He then sat on it and did some typing and played with the hair I am still losing a bit though its quite stable now thanks to frozen peas and short hair. He will be exhausted by time DD gets back. He is so cute. Though DD already has a request in to take him to university, doubt that will be possible but lovely the love is already there.

mathanxiety · 17/05/2022 16:09

Firefox was refusing to load anything today so I have switched to Chrome.

I bought another plant yesterday at Walmart. They had no herbs in stock so I still have no basil on my deck, but the rest of my plants are out, just in time for a chilly night.

Dcat has been crouching by the oven, concentrating hard, so I have the heebiejeebies about mice again.

I've had all the cables barricaded for years here. Getting in behind the TV and under the PC desk to destroy everything that takes attention from her is the life goal of Dcat. I have some garden trellis panels which I put across the desk when I'm not using the PC, plus all the cords are velcroed to the back of the desk and I have a piece of posterboard blocking off the back of the desk with all the tied down cords behind it. The desk fits neatly into an alcove, thankfully, so I only have one side to blockade. I also put obstacles on my chair, which has to remain outside the defenses, to prevent her leaping over the trellises, which she has done a couple of times.

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/05/2022 19:38

Hi all, sorry been off this thread for a while.

Silkie Mr Floof looks lovely!

Feeling extremely tired here. When I get tired my bones ache. DS was up a lot in the night. He had quite a high temperature of 39.8 last night but was loads better today.

Tried ringing the health visitor today. DS seems to be loosing weight a bit but has a good diet and eats loads. He also curls his toes inwards quite a lot too.

In the interest of the thread I had lasagna for tea.

Silkierabbit · 17/05/2022 20:32

Welcome back Lemons Sorry your DS is poorly. Sorry your bones ache as well, I used to get that a lot and found vitamins help esp vit D (plus calcium foods) and magnesium I think. It can be worth getting bloods done to see what you are low in.

We are having fajitas for dinner. So far had no bad effects from stopping the steroids, no allergic reaction, no sickness and no fluid build up and feel sane today so seems to be better but will see how it goes over the week and reviewing with oncologist on Thursday. Mr Floof was so lovely today, so cuddling and purring, whistling with happiness, trilling. DD has catnapped him again after returning from biology exam. He also sent his first e-mail and it was to her. She has two exams tomorrow economics paper 1 and english language. Then she has orthodontist on Thursday and history paper and Friday is maths then 3 days off and then French and 4 more next week. But good she is home on Monday my chemo day so can catsit.

DD was saying Mr Floof has taken over all her pillow and she could not use her bed tonight then I remembered I bought Silkiecat a cat mattress which she never used much and maybe Mr Floof would like it. As soon as DD brought it upstairs Mr Floof jumped on stretched out as long as he gets sideways so off at both ends as it was width way and fell asleep so that worked.

Good idea with the wires Math Really bad quality photo of Mr Floof on my bed.

It's like he has always been here Silkie..
I love how much joy he is bringing to you and to me on this thread!

My back aches as well Lemons- went to the doctor and he said it's muscle inflammation and that physio will help so have left a message asking for an appointment.
I have no other news at all.

I feel for you back pain is dreadful four weeks ago I screamed the place down with mine better now but ibuprofen gel is stable part of my life now as will help with arthritis as well.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/05/2022 12:37

Yeah think I will try the doctor but don’t hold much Hope with my doctors.

DS lasted 45 mins in nursery. He is up and down with teething. Was a bit hacked off because they used a thermometer to check his temperature which I’m not too happy about as they are not clinicians and it’s not in their policy.

He had a temperature of 38.1 by the time we were home 5 mins later it was 37.7.

In other boring news I booked our pre school trip but was 😬 at the cost of the bus which we are paying so the trip is free for parents.

MissConductUS · 18/05/2022 15:06

DrB, it is really poor medical advice to use ibuprofen for chronic pain relief. The most common side effect is GI bleeding and ulcers. This occurs because ibuprofen blocks the production of a slippery secretion that protects the lining of your stomach from the corrosive stomach acids. There are other problems as well.

health.clevelandclinic.org/is-it-bad-to-take-ibuprofen-every-day/

If it was a new drug it would never get approval for over-the-counter sale.

Sorry I was off the thread yesterday. There is good news and some not so good news. The good news is that back in January I broke an upper front tooth and had to have it extracted. I opted to replace it with an implant, which took months to integrate with the bone, then I had to have impressions taken for the abutment and crown, which then had to be custom made. I had them both put in yesterday, so I can smile again, and just in time for DS's graduation pictures. I also feel much less self-conscious.

The not so good news is that my MRI results came back and I have lumbar stenosis, not a herniated disk. This is what's causing my sciatica and pain in my leg. I was able get a last minute appointment with a orthopedic surgeon who only does backs yesterday afternoon and he reviewed the MRI with me. There is a surgical intervention, but I'd be in the hospital for a night or two and then there's a six week recovery period with some activity limitations. This has a very high success rate.

I'm going to try a more conservative option first, with a steroid injection from a pain management specialist and some physical therapy. This may help somewhat but is likely not a long term solution. I'm trying to book both for next week.

In other news, the weather looks okay for our drive to Massachusettes tomorrow but Saturday will be hot, so I'm going to wear something summery to graduation. It will be nice to get away for a few days and celebrate with DS. The cats are going to be properly cross with us when we get back, but they'll get over it.

OP posts:
MissConductUS · 18/05/2022 15:14

Lemons, I'm sorry to hear that you're having back issues too. They are really hard to diagnose and treat, as I'm learning first hand. Did the nursery use a scanning thermometer or an old fashioned stick type? Infants are prone to body temperature swings, more so than you would see in an adult. The teething can be awful. When it got bad with mine I'd use the infant dose of ibuprofen. That usually did the trick.

Your school trip cost is probably due to the rising cost of diesel fuel. Our drive to Boston and back is going to be expensive as well.
