DrB, it is really poor medical advice to use ibuprofen for chronic pain relief. The most common side effect is GI bleeding and ulcers. This occurs because ibuprofen blocks the production of a slippery secretion that protects the lining of your stomach from the corrosive stomach acids. There are other problems as well.

If it was a new drug it would never get approval for over-the-counter sale.
Sorry I was off the thread yesterday. There is good news and some not so good news. The good news is that back in January I broke an upper front tooth and had to have it extracted. I opted to replace it with an implant, which took months to integrate with the bone, then I had to have impressions taken for the abutment and crown, which then had to be custom made. I had them both put in yesterday, so I can smile again, and just in time for DS's graduation pictures. I also feel much less self-conscious.
The not so good news is that my MRI results came back and I have lumbar stenosis, not a herniated disk. This is what's causing my sciatica and pain in my leg. I was able get a last minute appointment with a orthopedic surgeon who only does backs yesterday afternoon and he reviewed the MRI with me. There is a surgical intervention, but I'd be in the hospital for a night or two and then there's a six week recovery period with some activity limitations. This has a very high success rate.
I'm going to try a more conservative option first, with a steroid injection from a pain management specialist and some physical therapy. This may help somewhat but is likely not a long term solution. I'm trying to book both for next week.
In other news, the weather looks okay for our drive to Massachusettes tomorrow but Saturday will be hot, so I'm going to wear something summery to graduation. It will be nice to get away for a few days and celebrate with DS. The cats are going to be properly cross with us when we get back, but they'll get over it.
