So close to getting to leave the country champagne good luck!

Iwandered I really like Greg Jenner’s history podcast but haven’t read Dead Famous, let me know if it’s any good?

DC3’s squad performance was phenomenal, so proud. And it was lovely to wander round the Olympic Park 10yrs on.

DH left yesterday morning for a week long trade show, and DC3 started their KS2 SATs yesterday. It’s going to be a long week!

Champagneforeveryone · 10/05/2022 08:09

MotherFloof looks completely over the act of parenting in that picture silkie 😆

Ive had a text advising that my passport will arrive TODAY!!!! As we live in the hardest house to find in the Southwest I'm not cracking open the bubbly just yet, but things look hopeful.

DS and I have discussed a budget for uni again. It was productive but sobering and in all likelihood appears to render my new passport worthless for the next three years 🙄

HildaTablet · 10/05/2022 08:28

Fingers crossed for the passport, Champagne. When I had mine renewed a couple of years ago, I got notification that it was due to arrive on a certain day…..it never did.

Turned out that the middle part of the road through our village was briefly fenced off for mysterious Works, but rather than turn round, drive a very short detour, and come into the village at the other end (it’s very much a one-horse town, as it were), the delivery driver had just given up and gone away, taking my passport with him. If he'd had satnav he’d have been able to see clearly that our address was totally reachable.

The red mist certainly descended that day.

DrBrennerFan · 10/05/2022 10:16

Getting over a nasty cold not covid but has knocked me about.

mathanxiety · 10/05/2022 18:43

The Floof family are certainly a floofy clan.

I'm trying to figure out how to watch Eurovision free as I did last year when Sveriges TV online was my Go To.

We had power outages last night, with accompanying lights on when they were fixed as my bedroom light is hooked up to Alexa. I'm not really firing on all cylinders today, mainlining tea...

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/05/2022 19:12

I just had some vanilla ice cream, chocolate sprinkles and "Sahne". Ate it with my feet up, listening to the black bird on the chimney.

MissConductUS · 10/05/2022 21:31

Hilda, how can a delivery driver not have a satnav? I'd be lost without mine, but I have a really bad sense of direction. Pre satnav I had to travel with an extensive collection of maps in the car.

math, did you have a storm come through last night?

Prok, ice cream is my weakness. And there are so many good brands available these days.

I saw a podiatrist this morning. I have a problem with my right foot. The big toe is bent down. He said that it's a sequela (side effect) of my sciatica and said that it was good that I have the MRI scheduled. I'm starting to think I may need surgery to correct things.

This handsome fellow did not mind at all when I approached him to take this picture. Either he's very tame or he fancies me. 😉

No storm, but there was a fire in someone's garage a few blocks to the north, and apparently the fire dept damaged a transponder when they entered the alley to see to it.

I managed to watch the Eurovision Semi Final on SVT- TV1 online. I've said it before and I'll say it again - huzzah for Sweden.

It's summery and warm here. DD3 went out to the deck where I've now put some of my plants, and she and a hummingbird had a little staring moment. They're back! They flew all the way across the Gulf of Mexico to my deck, and I hadn't put out their feeder full of sugar water Sad
That is now corrected.

Pinklimey · 11/05/2022 00:37

Yesterday I found a twenty pound note! I spent it on food and boring things.

Champagneforeveryone · 11/05/2022 12:40

So thrilled to hear the hummingbirds are back math 😃 It's horribly misty and drizzly today so I've washed all our feeders while the feathery little scroungers are holed up in the dry.

DH is Extremely Unwell again I have pointed out that one day he will be Actually Sick and nobody will believe him, but he is undeterred. I have dispensed coffee and tablets but have not engaged otherwise as the thin, quavery little voice makes me think murderous thoughts. He'll doubtless appear out of bed later on, clad in dressing gown and slippers, to totter weakly about the house clutching walls and door frames.

Is it T minus one day till the newest member of the family arrives silkie?

In overly exciting news (sorry), my mortgage offer has been approved 😃

MissConductUS · 11/05/2022 14:05

Pinklimey, I once found a $20 bill while out running, many years ago. I found many odd things in the years I was running. The strangest was a fairly new looking bra, which wasn't my size. I binned the bra. I don't recall what I spent the $20 on, but it was probably something boring.

Math, I hope you got your power back soon. Replacing a transformer can be a big job.

Champagne, fabulous news about the mortgage. Did you lock in a fixed rate? Mortgage rates have gone up a lot here, which is cooling off the housing market. What's the diagnosis for your DH?

In a sure sign of spring, we've had our first sighting of a ginger Purrito on the deck. He'll be quite upset that the new cushions are for the seat only. I may have to hang onto this one for him.

Hello everyone getting there slowly had codeine for first time in about three weeks to give me a sleep my sinuses were giving me hell so paracetamol ibuprofen as well good sleep much better breathing no bingo tomorrow though.

sueelleker · 11/05/2022 18:32

Got home this afternoon to find a voicemail from the Eye Hospital-they've got a date for my cataract op! I've got to ring them back for details-trouble is I keep getting their answerphone.
If I haven't heard by tomorrow, I might pop up there and speak to them in person.

Silkierabbit · 11/05/2022 19:23

Congrats on mortgage approval Champagne Yes tomorrow is Floof arrival date, DH and DD are out getting the new cat carrier I ordered and bowls for carrier and a fleece pet mat and will also get some food.

Good about eye appointment Sue

I got a Little Lifts chemo pack mainly as I saw lots of chemo patients getting them and felt jealous. I did not actually really want anything in it but thought it might cheer the kids up as DD is about to start GCSE and DS is fed up of school though Maine Coon is making DD super excited. It arrived and told DD and said she could take whatever she wanted for herself but give her brother something. She took about 90% for herself 😂and threw a packet of chocolate buttons at DS. She was so excited about it. Its fine with me and DS was not that interested, think he will just have the hot chocolate and chocolates. Rabbit would love the cardboard box.

Seriously tired now as 2 nights without sleep due to steroids so sorry if I miss things. Social services could not offer help so cancelled them but at least we know. EHCP has come through and they have forced DS into a school but had a meeting and senco was so horrible and says she will try to get him out from day 1 so I was left sobbing. But my lovely cancer nurse phoned just after and restored my faith in human nature, stayed on phone 1 hour and 10 mins though it really should not be her. Poor DS, no school wants him and he is such a lovely gentle boy but there is a shortage of school places here and SN kids cost money to schools. We did get invited to one, only school in county that invited us but said very unlikely would get place, DH went but DS refused, it does hardly any qualifications and DH said like a hippy community.

In better news plumber came removed old bathroom sink and taps, put new one on with mixer taps and took away old and was very reasonably priced and on time and fluent in French. Impressive. Had NHS counselling assessment but they have to send elsewhere so probably last here of that but my lovely counsellor from BUPA / Macmillan is carrying on for free. Talk to current school Head on Friday.

I ordered a council collection of rubbish yesterday as DD said she had 9 sacks in her room. I asked DH if he wanted anything added and of course being DH he said no then when it came he was using some of the 9 and told DD she should use bigger bags and put 2 in 1. DD was then muttering about DH stealing her rubbish bag slots. But at least it got rid of DDs rubbish, an old bin and DH got rid of the sacks he left in the garden so looks better. Now DH and DD are competing for the recycle bin but at least things are getting cleared.

MissConductUS · 11/05/2022 19:35

Silkie, when I was on steroids I had terrible insomnia too. Ask the clinic to rx you a 30-day supply of eszopiclone 3mg. That should help. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with DS's school placement. That's just awful.

Silkierabbit · 11/05/2022 21:48

Thanks MissC The oncologist has said I can stop the steroids apart from one at chemo but will see, taken this weeks. The nurse said they don't affect success rates, but stop sickness (don't have any with the chemo but maybe steroids help) but I have 2 lots of anti-sickness meds I don't take which I could if comes back, said they stop allergic reaction but as none so far as long as just take chemo one they think OK. I am taking them this week as they will be away quite a bit for cat. Then they said can stop fluid in body but can cause it too. I am not sure but have oncologist again on 19th so may ask her, inclined to take them again next week before speak to her. They said may be worse as I am on weekly chemo. I just get quite anxious on them which is partly lack of sleep though mainly just the school issues plus chemo. But cancer its not bad for getting help with so mainly schools.

DH and DD came back with stuff for cat.

halfpasteleven · 11/05/2022 22:35

Silkie you are an inspiration the way you keep going.
Best of luck tomorrow with the arrival of the Floof.
And I truly hope something will work out for your DS - you are doing all you** can and it will pay off.

Champagne- congratulations on the mortgage approval- another thing off the list. I hope your DH can share in the excitement.

Miss- such a sweet collection of animals and birds to live with/near. Lovely to see them.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2022 23:25

It's 92 degrees F here, and I can't stand it. I have the AC on.

HelenaJustina · 12/05/2022 06:37

Congratulations Champagne great news! One step closer…

I was one of three members of staff injured/assaulted by a pupil in crisis yesterday. A School Business Manager doesn’t usually work in the SEN room, but it wouldn’t have mattered who I was - he wanted to go home. He hasn’t been suspended or excluded. I’m having a rubbish week so many apologies for not keeping up to date.

hang in there silkie hope the current Head provides some answers for you. Poor DS.

DoctorTwo · 12/05/2022 14:15

Silkie I can only echo MissC's recommendation of Zopiclone, it's a fucking wonder drug. Unlike other sleeping drug type things it doesn't leave you feeling drowsy nest day. Last time I was in hospital I got the consultant to change his prescription of diazepam which he was going to give me to Zopiclone. The nurses were well impressed as I slept for over 7 hours.

Good luck with collecting Mr Floof, welcome your new overlord. He'll be a wonderful addition to your family. Your DS is being treated utterly shabbily, but that seems to be the experience of many people with disabilities, especially those children whose disability is hidden. Bastards, the lot of them.

MissConductUS · 12/05/2022 16:25

Math, it hit 81 F (27 C) here yesterday, but we just opened the windows and waited for the sun to go down.

Helena, that's terrible. I hope you didn't sustain any serious injuries. Some schools here have a police officer (aka a "school safety officer) in the building during the day, but even they can't prevent incidents like this.

Doctor, I agree. I have a sleep disorder and have been taking it for years. It's a godsend.

Silkie, good luck with the new kitten. Is "Mr. Floof" going to be his actual name or was that just a placeholder?

DD is coming home from uni today. DH has taken the day off to pick her up and bring her back. It's about 3 hours each way, so not a terrible trip, and the weather here is lovely today.

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 12/05/2022 22:17

Thanks Half that's very kind of you to say.

Thanks Helena Sorry you got hurt today.

Thanks DrTwo

Thanks MissC Enjoy having DD home. Yes he is Mr Floof though DD has named him Professor Noodle Floof and apparently he has a TICA official name as well though the lady just called him kitten.

Mr Floof is now in the car and nearly home, long 5 hour journey there and back for DD and DH. DD is totally in love and spent an hour video calling me as soon as they got him then said she had to go as she had lots of other people to video call about Mr Floof.

He was nervous at first but now is sitting by DD in the car and letting her stroke him and she says he should spend the night in bed with her. She is totally in love. He is smaller than I expected, about half the size of Silkiecat but sure it won't be long. He had also been playfighting today (boys for you!) and has hurt one eye a bit.

I am also hoping meeting tomorrow will go OK with current Head, she was nice last week but no help has emerged before but school have been firefighting with covid and I think like DrTwo said mute/quiet kids can slip through the net. Other schools senco was really horrid and he school refused the other school so really hoping for a solution tomorrow. I also have a complaints meeting with Head of Statutory Assessment. Had a counselling assessment but they have referred me to another counselling team but my lovely cancer counseller gave me a counselling session for free today as the charity ones had ended.

Mr Floof is home.

Silkierabbit · 12/05/2022 22:19

Pic from the car when he was nervous.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
Silkierabbit · 12/05/2022 22:37

Just had my first cuddle, he is gorgeous and lovely and gentle. He seems relaxed now he is here and apparently rabbit was keen to be friends and both were OK but DD has taken him off to her room to sleep with her. She is totally in love and half of the county's year 11s are now distracted from GCSEs and watching Mr Floof.
