Math, my allergies are starting to kick off again too. The website I use for weather forecasts also does pollen and air quality monitoring. Here's the link for Chicago.

Prok, they are nice cats. They'll just eat you out of house and home.

Sprouts, was your class live or do at your own pace? I assume you got CME credits for it.

I like that weather site. It's certainly quite hazy here and now I know why.
For some reason my normal phone weather app hasn't been loading since Thursday. It may need an update.

MissConductUS · 24/04/2022 00:52

Math, that website has a really nice app. Search for Wunderground.

Silkie it can be heartstopping being pounced on by a 5kg+ cat. At least DD2's massive Bengal had the manners to shout at you until you gave him permission to jump on your lap. Maine Coons can be great with autistic children, Iris Grace famously had her cat Thule which followed her almost everywhere, including the bath, and really brought her out of herself. Her paintings (which are incredible) are on her website, which I think is near the top of Google's first page if you type her name into your search engine.

IWanderedLonely · 24/04/2022 09:08

Pleased to report that the cake was gorgeous. Also got the thumbs up from DH and DS (thankfully, as I'm on my semi-permanent but pointless diet).

HelenaJustina · 24/04/2022 10:51

Good news about the cake, I’ve got a couple of overripe bananas but no mincemeat… I should really bake something today for the lunchboxes this week. DC4 has gone to their riding lesson, DC2&4 have a St George’s Day Scout parade this afternoon. And I need to get everyone ready for back to school (and me back to work) tomorrow morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/04/2022 12:10

We've put the tomatoes out. I have to take a few plants to the office, there are more than we can handle.
DS has booked his slot for "Einbringung" - there are 24 courses in all from the last 4 semesters he has to make count towards his final grade (some are obligatory no matter how bad and others he can choose to include)

Silkierabbit · 24/04/2022 15:23

Thank you so much DrTwo That girl is very like DS now, albeit maths is her painting and its great to see the Maine Coon be so close to her. I know DS wants one as he loves all things fluffy and big.

I just registered with a couple of Maine Coone breeders though one was saying you could have a boy one or a girl one and had only thought of a girl, no reason not for a boy but it would be huge compared to rabbit and the silkie. In theory the baby gate separates them but says a Maine Coon can jump 6 foot high though the lady said rabbits and Maine Coons get on and rabbit is desperate for a cat friend though one that will allow him to eat all its food so they have none, which is where the relationships keep breaking down with girls for him. Grin The silkie was open to friendship but quickly retracted when food was being snaffled and her pen made to a quarter of its size by rabbit stealing food when he had loads of his own.

I expect the food budget will be large MissC especially for a boy one. I only discovered Maine Coons Prok on MN when I mentioned Silkiecat liked to bathe her tail and someone asked if she was a Maine Coon.

We had omelette with parma ham, mozzarella and spinach for lunch. Would normally have a roast on Sundays but have quite a lot to get done today, well DH has a lot to get done as I am pretty dead on the chemo drugs still. Not sure if Monday is going ahead atm or we are postponing again, am just trying to get through things though not sure we will get ready ourselves either. DH has put kitchen bins out and tidied kitchen a bit and is now collecting the new sink and taps I ordered for the downstairs bathroom. Lawn also needs mowing and under the stairs clearing and I have to set up chair things etc, not optimistic about the chance will achieve these but at least each one we do is one less for later.

Nydj · 24/04/2022 15:42

I know nothing about cats but like you, Silkies I like to order and try lots of different dishes when eating out or having a takeaway. DS mentioned that he wanted some chocolate nests with mini eggs inside them and wasn’t fussed about getting them after Easter so I may try and make some this afternoon.

the weather can’t seem to decide whether it wants to be warm and just right for sitting outside or a bit chilly so I have given up and come inside now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/04/2022 16:40

Every weekend I get pictures of lovely landscape views and of equally lovely food, because DN enjoys hijking and restaurant food.
DS has a limited menu and will not go to restaurants or on hijkes. (Envious, me - of course not.)

DC2 just fell down the stairs, they are not injured but required a hug and chocolate ‘for the shock Mum’

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/04/2022 17:53

Helena Wise child - chocolate makes everything better.

HelenaJustina · 24/04/2022 18:37

She’s wanted to be a doctor since she was 5, I’m pretty sure her current prescribing would go down a storm in paediatrics!

MissConductUS · 24/04/2022 18:46

Prok, that's a lovely picture. The Maine Coon is an American breed and pretty popular here. They are considered the dogs of the cat world, both because of their size and their personalities. I wouldn't get a cat from a breeder because there are so many rescues that need good homes.

The spring wildlife invasion has begun. I saw this big fellow in the front yard this morning. There is a large pond not far from our house on the other side of that wall, so that is where he has wandered over from. It's interesting that he's waited until the lawn was mowed before visiting.

I also checked the outdoor Ring cameras this morning while having my coffee and discovered that a juvenile raccoon had walked across the driveway and up the stairs to the front garden at 4:12 AM. He was out for a walkabout.

There are almost no maine coon rescues in the UK from rescues (there's a few private ads for older ones but no checks on these and could be stolen/scams etc) and we also don't qualify for rescue ones as you need to have had a maine coon before. Its quite hard to even get the kittens from breeders but would prefer that the private site as they are checked and legitimate. DH is also very fussy on the cat's appearance Hmm and his list has appeared to get longer before it was a tabby with white paws and white under the chin (I managed to put a block on white tip of tail for Silkiecat) and then he saw one today with blue eyes and said oh I love cats with blue eyes can we get a tabby one with blue eyes. Whereas I would take all of them.

Not sure if this will work but this is like what DH is after, he is gorgeous though he is also taken I think.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/04/2022 19:12

Silkie She looks quite determined.

MissConductUS · 24/04/2022 19:13

Silkie, I meant that I would just get a mixed breed from a local shelter. If you have your heart set on a particular breed you probably have to go to a breeder.

It's a lovely day here. Some enterprising Girl Scouts set up a table outside of my church this morning to sell Girl Scout cookies, so of course, I bought some. Their mum was there to supervise as they were no older than 10.

There are almost no rescue cats available by us at all, in lockdown demand for cats surged and around here people kept them as most families have one person at home here. Our nearest one has 2 sets of 2 cats for adoption but we don't want 2 and next nearest has none at all. 4 hours away there are a few mixed breeds, part maine coon, at a rescue but we don't meet criteria of having had an indoor breed before. Silkiecat was indoors but by choice, well she occasionally went 1 foot from back door if open but she was just an ordinary moggy though tabby female with white paws and white under chin for DH. I do want a maine coon though as well, not bothered if a cat or a kitten but DH has now changed to wanting a kitten (can't remember why maybe due to rabbit and silkie and getting to grow up together) and also is so fussy on the looks he rejects all the older ones I show him as they aren't tabby. But there are quite a few tabby or tortie tabby kittens so we will get there.

Silkierabbit · 24/04/2022 19:51

DH has mown the lawn and cut plants back around the garden gate so one out of three things has been done which is good. Still not sure what is happening tomorrow as no-one called me back from hospital. I will try tomorrow morning but first thing is scheduled for 9am if not cancelled.

Silkierabbit · 24/04/2022 20:08

DH was very keen to vote in the French elections though had to miss them this year. He will never say who he votes for but I said are you desperate to ensure Le Pen gets in and he laughed.

DD is just off to the shop, all of three doors down. She was very cross we had run out of washing up liquid at lunch and so she cooked her after gym pasta in the microwave. It was apparently so bad she is going to the shop herself with DHs money of course.

sproutsandparsnips · 24/04/2022 20:56

Silkie I'm confused as to why a lack of washing up liquid meant DD needed to cook her pasta in the microwave?!
I am not a cat lover at all but if I was I think Maine coons would be on my list. They are very lionesque.
What a lovely picture Prok
Now I know the mincemeat works I may use my left over (homemade) mincemeat in a cake!
Back to school tomorrow and finally, my new job is starting!
Is that a Canada goose Miss? I believe they can be rather fierce.
Whilst watching DS playing rugby this morning a bird of prey (not sure which, may have been a kite hovered right over our heads very close indeed. I was unaccountably excited by this.

Silkierabbit · 24/04/2022 21:13

I think the saucepan DD wanted to use needed to be washed up so as there was no washing up liquid DD used a bowl and cooked her pasta in the microwave. DD could also have walked 20 metres to the shop and bought washing up liquid or used the liquid soap and water and cleaned the saucepan but microwave was quicker.

Yes some of the maine coons do look like small lions. Some remind me of foxes. Though I could never get that colour as Silkiecat used to make eyes at foxes as she loved their bushy tails and good looks and they remind me, they used to make eyes back but Silkiecat didn't realise she was their planned dinner.

Just having meringue, cream and raspberries. DH is amused as all week I have been saying nothing creamy so I don't feel nauseous then I asked for this but its so good I don't care.

IWanderedLonely · 24/04/2022 21:25

Sprouts my mincemeat is also homemade. It was from Christmas 2020, but is so full of brandy I'm not worried about food poisoning just liver damage

IWanderedLonely · 24/04/2022 21:31

Gratuitous photo of tomb in Knaresborough church, from a couple of weeks ago.
