DoctorTwo, the order for the blood tests was in your chart but they had no one who could take five minutes to draw the samples? That's pretty bad.

If it's an inguinal hernia they'll likely have to do a surgical repair.

Glad you had CT done DrTwo and hope you hear back soon about way forward. Yes same at my hospital departments often don't communicate directly and also it is so busy there, poor nurses in chemo working 12 hours days and some are just running between patients and so busy atm, very crowded in public seated areas.

HelenaJustina · 20/04/2022 20:56

You decided to go for the PICC silkie? Sounds like more reliable access and hopefully less painful going forward.

We’ve seen family again this afternoon and I cleaned the bathrooms. I’ve also planned a nice Cotswold walk with friends tomorrow. Selling it to the DC via cake in Burford.

Not sure about this new layout!

Silkierabbit · 20/04/2022 21:10

Cotswold walk sounds lovely Helena

No choice over PICC as they can no longer use cannulas they said. Was a bit surprised as first three times and bloods in first time with no pain but this fourth time took 2 nurses to find a vein and was just a small one on wrist which worked but they weren't happy about, still little pain and I prefer cannulas but if not an option can't do and either goes to PICC or PORT but hospital don't want PORT and similar risk levels I think and PORT is normally longer term but can get wet which I would prefer. They won't use my right arm as had full lymph node clearance. So have full day in hospital on Monday, 9am picc and 12pm chemo. Most people are OK with PICC but increases risk of infection and blood clots, the infection if you report asap is manageable and similar to chemo risk, basically call asap so does not go to sepsis, the 6% blood clot thing is more worrying as that seems to involve 3 months of stomach injections which I hate but its the only way. I am hoping as I have been bleeding a lot on chemo my blood is thin, never had a blood clots before and only a small amount of the 6% are dangerous but all I think are put on blood thinners and I hate those injections, did a week before and ended up bruised and in pain. I will try and see if anything can do to minimise it. 8 to go, now on 90% due to neuropathy and it may end before 8. My friend has needed her PICC redone 3 times though out is very quick a few minutes and done at chemo. They said its about 2 hours for in but a lot is waiting around for x - ray and its 25 mins to put in. Joining your whining DrTwo, no enforced cancer positivity here. Grin I hate the daily positive posts on those cancer sites sometimes. Though very glad to have got away and had a bit of normality pre PICC. 2 months to go of worst bit then should improve.

Making some progress on schools today but am zombie like from chemo this week, not sure why as normally steroid power picks me up by now. DS off today and very sleepy so could be a bug but temp is normal. DH made me a lovely homemade soup.

LadyHelenaJustina · 20/04/2022 21:19

I have planted asparagus.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/04/2022 21:30

DH will have a zoom call tomorrow with the priest who will be conducting DMiL service at the cemetery. He is new-ish and did not know her well.

DD has had her first day of f2f uni and a nice breakfast at a café with view of the water.

I have a dentist appointment tomorrow (yearly check up and discussion of the replacement of two 30 year old crowns)

Silkie If that picc line is the thing I had in - it really made life so much easier. All the best. And two best wishes to you, too. I hope they get on with finding out what is the matter.

mathanxiety · 20/04/2022 22:43

Now settled back to work again after the Easter weekend and far too much to eat.

We woke to a coating of snow on Easter Monday but this weekend will be positively summery.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/04/2022 18:59

The zoom call went well.
DD did not get a place ein Spanish, but could enlist for DGS (sign language). Which is great - you can learn Spanish at every corner (I recommended the Instituto Cervantes). DGS is more difficult to come by.

And (😀) there is no medical reason to replace my crowns.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/04/2022 22:03

Yay re dentist Prok. Well done to your DD too!

How do you feel about PICC line Silkie?

Eventful day not in spirit of the thread at all. Took MIL to seaside town ( hasn’t been in 3 years) with DS and DH ended up with MIL in hospital as she was having chest pains on drive home.

We took her to hospital. Waited over two hours with DS in car. He did amazing and waited so well. So proud of him I was.

Tests have revealed angina but she is being kept in overnight.

Am tired now. Never a dull moment!

Silkierabbit · 22/04/2022 11:13

Hope your MIL will be OK Lemons and gets back home soon. I don't really have a choice in PICC, well its that or stopping chemo. I am not keen as I hate things on me and I hate not being able to wash all of me (wish they would let me change the bandages but they won't and have ocd so hate not cleaning everything after hospital esp with covid rife). I also wanted to get a kitten as I miss not having a cat but that will have to wait until its gone as you can't get it bashed or it has to be redone which is probably sensible but I don't want to be sensible, I want a floofy Maine Coone cat or kitten. Grin Cannulas were fine for me and did not feel any pain (maybe as my nerves are damaged) but nurses say not an option and they know best and PORT they won't do. I would prefer PORT as its washable and the maine coone and I could just bathe together in my dreams but think they are too busy / its more of a longer term thing though some people seem to have insisted and got one but more difficult as mine is weekly and next on Monday. I am so weak after chemo this time, can barely even stand up/get to from bathroom and nose is bleeding again, so not sure how 7 hours at hospital will go, but just keep trying. I would like just to pack the whole thing in atm tbh but they don't know if there's a benefit to chemo or not (my cancer has gone on scans but small bits they can't see can be there, they think no benefit but if they are wrong and you are in the 6% you are dead in 10 years and there are funding issues so am a bit sceptical if its economic) so will keep going though think they are going to stop it before the end anyway and not sure if there is a benefit to that. They said don't know but from cycle 4 to 12 proportional benefit from chemo and done 4. But just take it day by day really. Normally the steroids revive me but nope. I now also have a long list of things that need doing with all the hospital, school and ESA and cleaner coming plus tap needs to be fixed in next 2 weeks and DH is getting a bit grumpy this morning. Urgh 2 more more of this, maybe 2.5 if they need to take breaks. I have come off the breast cancer Facebook as that's full of things going wrong badly or people being fake positive both of which are difficult. Apologies for the whining today.

DS has at least gone to school as has DD and DS has even worn his new shoes again, he went in 2 lessons yesterday so first two this week. DH is making me pasta. I have a pair of knickers over my nose as we have no tissues in the house. I will drink my cup of tea.

MissConductUS · 22/04/2022 16:48

Lemons, how is your MIL doing? If they've labeled it as angina, she'll have to be evaluated for coronary artery disease.

Silkie, I would tread cautiously with a Maine Coon. In addition to being huge, they are not easy cats to live with.

Four weeks from tomorrow we'll be at DS's graduation. 😀

On Monday I have a medical treatment in the morning, then my long awaited appointment with the rheumatologist in the afternoon. I'm just going to take a day of annual leave to make things simpler.

It's nice spring weather here, but sadly duck free on the reservoir.

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 22/04/2022 18:19

Hope the medical treatment goes OK on Monday MissC Must be medical Monday as that is my day in hospital too though Mondays are a good day as some are Bank Holidays so DH does not need leave for those. Someone last time appeared to have Saturdays. Shock

I have always wanted a big, floofy cat and so does DS so big and floofy is what we are after. The breeder who I got on the list with today (kittens due in May so would be from September for us which works well with dates but not my impatience!) said they love rabbits and are good therapy animals for children with autism. Silkiecat was a PITN to live with but DH likes his girls needy as he loves to be needed so a difficult cat would suit him fine though best when my treatment is over so one needy girl at a time.

I am slight less dead atm which is good as managed to order an Indian takeaway which DH is going to collect. I also got DH to agree that I could get a plumber in for downstairs sink, DH always insists he will solve it for free but he can't. So got plumber coming in Wednesday then decided the downstairs sink in knackered and would be better with one tap rather than two and got DH to agree to this. Told DH to say to plumber and he did but his wife said that may need to change time but will see. Though checked out removal of old sink disposal and our council do not offer it but can sort that later. Want a working sink for now, well you can use it but one tap is broken and its definitely seen better days think its from 1980 or so.

Current DSs school also got in touch and the Head will have a video call with me next week one day tba. No news from LA. Other school are saying LA never contacted them so doing that again. No ESA forms though may need to check not lost in post if don't come soon.

Having a king prawn korma with pilau rice and sag aloo, of course DH being DH said not to order him a meal he will just have bits of mine and DSs so ordered veg, rice, naan breads and poppadum's and chutneys as well. DH isn't brave enough to take any of DDs.

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/04/2022 20:28

MIL is home turns out not Angina but they said she had Osteoporosis. She had a broken rib which had almost healed that she didn’t know about which was causing the pain. Tests now for bone density to see bone age etc.

Wow Missconduct that’s exciting re graduation.

See Silkie I am so bad at sharing food. I’m kind of like Smithy from Gavin and Stacey if you want what I’m eating go order one for yourself !!

Nydj · 22/04/2022 22:26

Almost too exciting for this thread but actually very mundane - I am pleased to have walked almost 24,000 steps today. It was a result of lovely walk to local bluebell woods with a friend followed by a walk to hairdressers.

Nydj · 22/04/2022 22:27

Ouch, Lemons that sounds nasty, your poor mil must have been in a lot of pain with the broken rib.

Silkierabbit · 23/04/2022 12:20

Congrats Nydj

I don't mind sharing Lemons I actually like having little bits of lots of meals rather than all the same, its just amusing they have to all be for 'me' or DS when infact DH has more of them than either of us just as he hates the thought of spending money even though I paid for it. I am also having a bone scan soon, they at least seem to be quite quick. I have a bone thing on hip, bony island joint or something like that, it helps if I take vit D supplements and ensure have calcium in diet but see what suggestions they have after the scan. My dentist was very interested as well which I guess makes sense but was a bit surprised.

DH has gone to collect things from Post Office and Dunelm that I ordered though he was confused as Dunelm cancelled 2 things and I reordered them. This was too much for DH. I have a little energy today, first time this week though was tearful this morning but phoned chemo line, lady could not help much but she did try. Its very mechanical atm there as so short staffed and they don't really go through risks, benefits, emotional side other than a sign here when they have you in on day of operation.

Gone on a Maine Coon kitten list and showed DH the size the boys can get to. He does not wear his hearing aid much and he said he can see himself being jumped on by one, I can too but it may incentivise him to wear a hearing aid. Though it sounded like he wanted to be crushed by fluff. Silkiecat's ashes are now at the vets.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2022 17:11

Back in after the 'platform update'.
We had aspargus today. DH is from a region where it is just another vegetable. For me on the other hand it is an expensive rarity for special, seasonal occasions.
DD and I went to "Der Holländer" to buy plants for the terasse. We managed to fill half of our contianers and need to go back next week to fill the other half.

I have developed what translates as "benign positional vertigo" - what fun.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
HelenaJustina · 23/04/2022 18:03

That sounds unpleasant prok

We’ve spent the day in the Cotswolds seeing my SiL and small nieces. V quiet in my house now as all DC have vanished off to their rooms after being forced to be in the same space for 1hr20 (the car on the way home!)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2022 18:31

I turned around in bed and suddenly the room started moving and the nausea started. Luckily harmless.

We have finished organizing DMil funeral.

IWanderedLonely · 23/04/2022 18:33

Sounds horrible Prok is it something you'll have for ever?
I was given a bunch of overripe bananas from the veg stall on the market, so I've just made a cake. I daringly stirred in 1/2 a jar of mincemeat that needed using up. Hoping it turns out edible OK.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2022 20:39

Iwandered I very much hope not. There are exercises for my neck muscles and bones.

How did your cake turn out?

sproutsandparsnips · 23/04/2022 20:40

IWanderedlonely, that sounds nice though I wonder if the mincemeat might sink to the bottom of the cake!
I have today completed a 9 hour marathon online chest X-ray interpretation course. I am tired now and I lost the will part way through, though it was very useful. I missed our last home game of the season and should have been helping in the kitchen, but my friends understood and rallied round to cover me.
I discovered, whilst at the desktop (I usually use the laptop) that DS has put a very cute sloth as my screensaver

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 22: Calmly through the day
MissConductUS · 23/04/2022 21:28

Silkie, your Maine Coon kitten will keep you very busy. Budget extra for food.

Prok, sorry to hear about the vertigo diagnosis. It often improves over time with the exercises.

Sprouts, well done completing the course. Was it all in one go? Nine hours is too much. It's hard not to lose focus.

DH picked up the lawnmower this morning and it is back to normal operation. He cut the areas he couldn't do last weekend so one patch is slightly higher than the rest, but it will all even out the next time.

DD's summer internship stipend was paid into our checking account this week, which was confusing. DH has determined that it's not eligible to be put into her retirement account, so she'll have to do something else with it. We've decided that we'll pay for half of her summer room and board charges and just keep enough of the stipend to pay the other half. I'm sure she'll like that.

DH has gone to the local artisanal ice cream shop, which recently opened for the season, to pick up a few pints. Everything is made there from fresh, mostly local ingredients, so it's quite a treat. We're having burgers on the grill and mac & cheese leftover from last weekend for dinner.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 23/04/2022 21:56

Finally a blast of summer weather here, sadly accompanied by Spring allergy symptoms for me. It's time to double up the anti-histamines, though the warmth won't last. It takes a while for summer weather to take hold here thanks to the Great Lakes. However, the trees keep on blossoming regardless.

<and achoooooOOOO>

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/04/2022 22:01

Silkie I had to look up Maine Coons. They are absolutely lovely

Sprouts I follow sloths (and wombats, bats and spiders) on Instagram. Congratulations on finishing the x-ray course.
