We were in Regent’s Park in London yesterday and saw two giraffes in the zoo too @HildaTablet - possibly the same ones that you saw? They seemed a bit small for giraffes - perhaps they were young or just a bit short like me (although still very tall compared to humans, of course).

Lovely weather today. I did a bit of tidying in the garden, went for a walk and then relaxed in the garden.

Enjoy the cheesecakes, Prok

Silkies I am glad you managed to get away - your room looks really lovely. I hope you enjoy the rest of the break.

Doctor I hope you are recovered from the trauma of your scan prep.

I love cherries too Miss but we don’t get many fresh ones and the ones we do get are ridiculously expensive.

sproutsandparsnips · 16/04/2022 21:18

Shoesonfirstthencar I am going to see the puffins in June hopefully! Maybe this is too exciting. I am next door but two counties away.
Working from here on in to the Easter weekend.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 16/04/2022 21:22

I’m sooo jealous sprouts !!

I follow the VisitPembrokeshire page on Facebook and today, as spring is when they come to raise their young, this photo (credit @yotm_images) was posted

I love them, but I wonder where the name puffin comes from? Google is undecided.

The cheese cake is in the oven, but apparently the base was not well kneaded enough. I hope DH will be able to cope. He thinks everything through, finds the most effective way of doing things and expects everyone etc. - apart from filing that is. Grin

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 16/04/2022 22:09

I have a relative who is an expert on all things to do with birds, I will pick his brains and report back Prok

Lovely meal last night in farmhouse with a lovely fire on and breakfast very good this morning had strawberries Portuguese custard tart toast and cappuccino.

Then we did boat trip to Skomer with Pembrokeshire Islands. They had cancelled our rib boat as broke down but put on a special catamaran for us for longer for same price with just 10 of us. Went to wrong place to start with as they gave two postcodes then was late but they waited. Dh dropped me and ds off so could get to boat quickly and he went to park. Unfortunately dh decided he would do a 3 point turn on the stony beach. The car got stuck.

We all went on boat and magical puffins seals gannets etc and rainbows kept appearing as sunny and boat splashing water. Really lovely.

Then returned to car and could not move it. 4 hours later and we have had about 15 people helping and the car has just gone back and 1 metre from sea and tide is coming in. AA etc won’t help say no vehicle suitable, local garage said no, farmers are busy, 4 by 4 tried before and rope kept breaking and car went back. 999 fire won’t help. Not sure how insurance would go. I am starting to feel I’ll with the chemo and standing up as 5 of men are engineers and keep coming up with great schemes none of which work and involve us not being in car understandly lovely of them to help I try ambulance service for me 8 hour wait so no use. Then someone drives round and finds a tractor who rescues us just in Nick of time. 4 lovely people have stayed with us 3 hours and 2 ladies looking after me and they also give 50 pounds to tractor as we have no cash though we will pay them back. Beautiful scenery and ds was happy rock climbing got back late for dinner and B and B let us have it still ham mash and broccoli and treacle tart and cream with apple juice and have done our rooms and put free drinks in again This place is amazing. They offered to take ds on a trip round farm too. Back home tomorrow.

That sounds quite an adventure! I am glad you all had such a great time.

My DB's partner ist stuck in isolation. So I went round an took her some Easter goodies.

The cheese cake is out of the oven.

lovestreet · 16/04/2022 22:24

Hello all. Hope I'm ok to post my nonsense.

We spent a lot of money (for us) to come on a foreign holiday at Easter.
It's quite exotic compared to what I'm used to.

However I'm just not enjoying it.
I feel empty inside. I thought I would forget my worries and enjoy the distractions. I have started eating total junk and indulging in all the treats on offer. I'm normally pretty healthy in terms of diet and exercise.

Eating junk is making me feel even more lousy. I'm suddenly in a vicious circle. The fact they I had covid earlier in the year hasn't helped. It was really mild but it's left not much more tired and unable to exercise much.

All in all I'm feeling a bit rubbish.
At least my young kids are getting a nice change

Thanks for listening

sproutsandparsnips · 16/04/2022 22:24

Sounds magical silkies but what an adventure! May I ask where you are staying?

halfpasteleven · 16/04/2022 22:30

It looks almost tropical Silkie..
I'm glad your sea adventure had a happy ending, so many people are so kind, I think we I need to remember that.

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter - it's meant to rain here all day tomorrow so the egg hunt will have to be indoors for DS and DD.

Silkierabbit · 16/04/2022 22:57

Thanks everyone we are staying at Penhriw Farm Goodwyn at the moment it’s on Facebook and got much cheaper rates direct almost half price. It’s amazing here only recently opened.

Silkie, what a harrowing adventure with the car. Halfway through reading it I thought the car was certainly doomed. The B&B looks lovely and the link worked in English for me.

@lovestreet, of course you can post, and it's not nonsense. About half of patients who have covid have symptoms that take months to resolve. I'm sorry it's spoiling your holiday abroad. You can refocus on your healthy habits when you're feeling better. Are the kids having a good time?

The lawnmower had to go back to the shop. it ran fine for 20 minutes then stalled and wouldn't start up again, so DH put it in the car and took it back just minutes before they closed. I'm sure they'll sort it.

It's gotten cold and rainy here. I can't believe Easter is upon us already.

halfpasteleven · 17/04/2022 00:16

That's a shame re the lawn mower Miss, I hope it's not a serious job to fix it and that you get it back quickly.
Is it a bank holiday over there on Monday?

MissConductUS · 17/04/2022 00:51

Halfpast, when DH dropped it off, the bloke at the shop said it was very probably the automatic choke that had gone dodgy and that he'd replace it. It's still under warranty and this Honda power equipment dealer is very good.

No bank holiday on Monday, unfortunately.

Shoes, yes, it's the show with Christopher Walken, and it's well worth a watch. Is the BBC broadcasting it or is it just on Netflix in the UK?

m.facebook.com/penrhiwfarmbnb/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=0 Found the Facebook

At first I was not very concerned for the car as was above were locals said tide goes to, issue at first was dh did not want to get help or spend money and was determined he would solve it for free but could not. All the locals were saying tractor but nope dh was not paying for one. Then got him to call AA etc and local garage and fire brigade and when all said no and all farmers were busy and car went backwards I thought she would be written off. The lovely people have been in touch to check we got home safely.

Love I did the AI things with kids and kids loved it, it is easy to have lots of calories there. I found you either need to be very active swimming etc or avoid the fizzy drinks etc. But you are on holiday so don’t worry too much just enjoy being with little ones.

In interests of dullness added pic of lights and less dull a lighthouse

Sounds like a real adventure you had yesterday Silkie. The Band looks amazing and somewhere if never consider but would now.

Rang my Grandma who is in her 90s. She got the Easter card from DS. She said she was giving to church today but luckily the service was at 11 not the usual 9am.

Pasg Hapus- Happy Easter 🐣 all hope you all have a lovely day.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 17/04/2022 10:19

Miss The BBC did show it but last year? I think?

Silkie that’s quite a day!! Glad you got out ok, but also looks like you had a lovely day for your boat trip. And lots of seals and puffins. Is that the lighthouse at Angle? DH and I walked there many moons ago when MS hadn’t robbed my legs of the ability to walk more than roughly 50m without losing balance 🙄

Pasg Hapus! Happy Easter!

Silkierabbit · 17/04/2022 10:26

Shoes sorry about your MS though it was from the boat trip and if your dh drops you off but ideally not on stony beach you only need to walk about 50 metres. I can only do about that atm with the chemo neuropathy. It is steps but half up half down. It’s the Pembrokeshire Island Skomer and skolholm cruise in Helena Clare. Rib goes from elsewhere

lovestreet · 17/04/2022 10:26

Thanks for your kind words @MissConductUS

Thanks
ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 17/04/2022 10:53

@lovestreet sorry to hear you’re feeling rough and not enjoying your holiday. I think that you should allow yourself to enjoy the treats and junk and then reset your brain when you get home, have a nice holiday with your family and leave everything else until you’re back to normal routine?
I have only just had Covid but am feeling a lot more tired than normal (DD also seems more tired than she usually does)
