@Silkierabbit

No nor did I Makiwa, the one granny was 50p and one year my brother got 10p and I got 50p Hmm, other one was £10 at Christmas. Though MIL knows the way to attract DD.
miss commented earlier in the thread that large sums of money normally elicit good spirits in teenagers. This was after DS realised how much was in his Child Trust Fund and had temporarily turned into a child of the sunniest disposition Grin
MissConductUS · 14/04/2022 14:10

DH has offered to go baked ham and Au gratin potatoes for Easter. We can get a small but very good quality ham from a specialty brand called Boars Head, so that may be our plan for Easter dinner without the kids. I have given up nothing for Lent. It's not required for Episcopalians, thank goodness. Smile

Good luck with your appointment DoctorTwo. If they can remove the abscess arthroscopically it should be a very quick recovery.

It's a lovely spring morning here with a temp of 19C and clear blue skies, but the forecast if for thunderstorms this afternoon with a high of 29C. The grass is starting to come up so I hope we get the lawnmower back soon.

Have a lovely trip, Silkie, you deserve the break.

Thanks MissC Have a lovely Easter.

We were supposed to leave at 12pm and hospital call at 12.10pm but DH is still packing his things and hospital hasn't called and its 2.15pm. Argh. I have just told DH we have a meal booked there at 6.30pm and get a move on.

sueelleker · 14/04/2022 14:57

Just received a delivery of trailing sweet-pea plants, so we're going to put them in hanging baskets this afternoon.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/04/2022 16:38

Silkie Enjoy youself and agood time to all of you - whenever you manage to get away.
Drizzly but not cold here.

HelenaJustina · 14/04/2022 19:30

Did you make it silkie?!

The hot cross buns look amazing makiwa great effort!

We’re off to the first of the Triduum Masses, DC1&2 are altar serving (rehearsal was earlier this afternoon) and DC3 and I will be in congregation. It’s too late for DC4 so DH will stay at home too.

mathanxiety · 14/04/2022 20:24

sueelleker that sounds lovely.
Getting to grips with the garden was one of the hardest things my mum had to do after my dad died. She had to admit after a couple of years that she didn't have the time or the energy to keep it the way dad had, and decided to make a good few changes.

DoctorTwo · 14/04/2022 20:41

I went for my CT scan and the most difficult part was the nurse trying to find a vein to stick a needle in. She tried 5 different ones. That contrast dye they give you is really weird, you get a strange metallic taste in your mouth and feel hot all over. And you feel like you've just wet yourself. Really unsetttling.

Hope you're all well and looking forward to Easter.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/04/2022 20:59

Doctor I hope the results are as good as possible!

We are still debating: nothing / raisins / cherries / raisins + cherries for the cheese cake. I've already bought the 'Schichtkäse'.

sproutsandparsnips · 14/04/2022 21:59

Impressive hot cross buns Makiwa!
Silkie I really hope all well and you are enjoying.
DoctorTwo hope the results are ok.
We have just returned from a short break to the Cotswolds with the obligatory trip (as in every time we visit the Cotswolds) and picnic to the Cotswolds Wildlife Park where we met my parents who came from Birmingham.
I finally have a date to start my new job on 25th after only 7 months of waiting so that is exciting (hopefully not too exciting for the thread).
I hope to go for a walk up our local hill mountain tomorrow and was fortunate to be able to attend the Maundy Thursday service at church this evening. I'm not sure whether I will be able to go to any more as I'm rostered to work Easter Sunday all day and Monday night and may have to cover sickness Saturday. This has caused some friction between DH and me.

Lemonsandlemonade · 14/04/2022 22:23

@Makiwa the hot cross buns look great.

Just got back from a work Bingo fund raiser. I actually won a prize.

Silkierabbit · 14/04/2022 22:37

We made it in the end but not easy dh not ready until 3pm then ds refused to move so we had to carry him to car leaving front door open. Then a golden Labrador tried to get in the house with unsupervised rabbit and silkie though managed to alert owner and pets stayed inside.4pm hospital finally do 12pm call, all fine for Monday chemo. Ds is head down all way in car. Then we see hotel by river it’s so nice and ds is watching everything he loves own room own tv and own drinks and biscuits. Lovely evening meal now in bed and ds happy.

halfpasteleven · 15/04/2022 04:22

Silkie, your room looks so restful. So glad you got there and all is well. Enjoy it now..

Silkierabbit · 15/04/2022 18:14

Thanks half it was lovely and had a lovely smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast overlooking river this morning. Now in Pembrokeshire at farm B and B dinner is cottage pie and tarte tatin

MissConductUS · 15/04/2022 19:35

I'm glad you're having a nice holiday, Silkie.

The lawnmower is ready, a mere six days after drop off. This is a record. DH will pick it up tomorrow morning and perhaps do the first cut of the season this weekend.

I am concerned for the ducks. I didn't see any of them on the reservoir yesterday or today. I supposed it's possible that they were just stopping off during their annual migration north. There was at least one pair who stayed over the summer last year.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/04/2022 20:20

There will be two small cheesecakes on with cherries and raisins and the other without.
DD informed me that raisins are dried fruit and if you go down that path you end up with Früchtebrot and who wants that (one of her great aunts used to bake those and they were not really edible).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/04/2022 20:21

We did not throw them away - we found a use for them

MissConductUS · 15/04/2022 21:04

I'm glad you're using the cherries, Prok. They are my favorite fruit. There is a farm near us where we pick cherries every summer. I just checked their website last night to find out when they'll start taking reservations. The answer is June for strawberries.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/04/2022 21:46

Miss Cherries are not in season, so they will be preserved ones. The sour variety, Schattenmorellen they are called. We can go strawberry picking in summer, too.
There will be at least a week of freezing temperatures after Easter. And for sensitive plants the weather is tradtiotionally only safe after the "Eisheiligen" (Pankratius, Servatius, Bonifatius and "die kalte Sophie") in May.

HelenaJustina · 16/04/2022 09:30

I’ve been for a run, swooped round Waitrose for some last bits, made a hot cross ice cream bombe for the freezer, all before 8.45am. Rounding up the childers to go to my parents for lunch and a party tea, hurrah for sunshine and family.

Holiday looks lovely silkie just what you all need.

HildaTablet · 16/04/2022 10:04

Bit tardy catching up but great news about the house, Champagne, and I’m glad you got away and have arrived at such a lovely place, Silkie.

DoctorTwo, how did things go at the hospital? Those dye injections are really horrible. I had one for a kidney infection once and almost passed out - it didn’t help that they also strapped a sheet of hard plastic down so tightly over my abdomen that I literally couldn’t breathe out and thought I was going to expire on the table. I hope you’re being looked after now.

I had to work yesterday so no Easter treats but I did get a lift into work which took us past London Zoo. I had a surreal moment of glancing up out of the car window and suddenly eyeballing two beautiful giraffes. Always a bit of a surprise sight in Central London, but more so after two years of not travelling in thanks to Covid.

MissConductUS · 16/04/2022 18:05

Prok, we have fresh cherries in the stores now, but they're from Mexico or Central America. The US grown ones won't be here until late June or so. The imported ones are okay, just more expensive. I'm sure your cheesecake will be fabulous.

Helena, as usual, your level of activity is inspiring. Smile

We have decided not to do a special Easter meal for just the two of us. We'd have too many leftovers and it's a lot of work for two people.

I went to the warehouse club this morning. I'm used to the fact that the prices on meat and dairy have gone up, but now everything is more expensive.

I'm watching a new Netflix/BBC series called The Outlaws. It's a hoot. It's about a group of minor criminals in Bristol doing community service instead of jail time. It even has a cantankerous elderly American and country music, so I feel right at home. Grin

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 16/04/2022 20:27

Oh Miss is that the one with Christopher Walken? The previews looked really good but never got round to watching it.
Did you see any puffins Silkie ? I am always cross with myself that I’m only one county away and we go to Pembs regularly, yet I have never been to Skomer Island to see the puffins.
I am sitting enjoying a cup of tea and two M&S mini hot cross buns, very tasty.

HildaTablet · 16/04/2022 21:09

The Outlaws was great, MissC, you’re in for a treat.
