Do you remember what your guests wore to your wedding.

I have been married for nearly 43 years.
At the weekend I was sorting out with my DD the photos that I have stored.
I got out my album and realised that 3 guests wore white.
It mustn't have been a problem as I couldn't remember.

I remember someone wore a beautiful white dress to my wedding. A couple of other people were horrified and commented to me about it.
I honestly couldn't have cared less. She looked lovely but noone thought she was the one getting married so what did it matter? I don't understand the fuss tbh!

LubaLuca · 22/03/2022 22:09

No, I can't even remember their names or what they looked like because we just had two witnesses we'd never met before, and there are no photos of them.

TragicMuse · 22/03/2022 22:11

One of our guests wore jeans! Everyone else dressed up but she chose to wear jeans.

I'm not bothered, I only remember because people asked me if I minded!

No, but I wore black to both of my brothers' weddings!

BirdWatch · 22/03/2022 22:13

Yes, but it was only a tiny wedding so easy to remember.

Echobelly · 22/03/2022 22:16

It was nearly 15 years ago and nope, not a thing. I can remember what our parents were wearing as they're in photos around the house.

MintyGreenDream · 22/03/2022 22:17

Yes I remember a heavily pregnant partner of dh friend dressed in navy blue and mil dressed as lamb

WimpoleHat · 22/03/2022 22:17

Not really, although I do remember that my mother and aunt wore black, which amused me (although they did look smart and it was a late afternoon “do”). But not generally - that’s only because I have those photos out. I just remember people coming and it feeling like the best party I’d ever been to. Can’t imagine getting the hump over what someone else chose to wear.

gogohm · 22/03/2022 22:18

My ex's aunt wore black, something I would never do. Bodycon dress, hair extensions and really long acrylics long before they were fashionable Grin. She's lovely actually and we are still in touch

PermanentTemporary · 22/03/2022 22:21

OK if I'm honest I do remember one school friend wearing a beige sweatshirt, blue slacks and Scholl type sandals because I did have a moment of thinking 'wtf'. I know she knows how to dress reasonably - she's not a clothes person and I wouldn't have expected some kind of fashion show, just a dress I've seen that she has worn to other friends' weddings would have been fine. But it didn't matter much, just a tiny deflated moment in a great day.

mamaduckbone · 22/03/2022 22:21

Not everyone, but I remember one of my dh's friends girlfriends wearing amazing wide legged cream trousers, a brown strapless top and a massive floppy hat. It sounds awful but she looked amazing.

YorkieTheRabbit · 22/03/2022 22:25

I remember some.
My stepmum looked fabulous, we shopped for her outfit together but couldn’t find a hat. She’d gone away somewhere with my dad and he saw a hat in a shop window and pointed it out to her. It cost £££ and it was perfect
I remember one of my bridesmaids looked like she’d been dragged though a hedge, she was hungover and didn’t turn up to get her hair done
The four friends I worked with all looked brilliant and I remember what each wore
One of the groomsmen wore brown suede shoes despite the fact they were all wearing grey morning suits
This was back in 1989 and I’ve been divorced for over 20 years Grin

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/03/2022 22:28

Errrm vaguely, but it was only us, parents and siblings in attendance, I'd have to look at photos to be 100% on the dresses.
But I remember my mum wore red, MiL wore orange and SiL wore blue and pink. Dad, FiL and brother all wore suits, couldn't tell you the colour, but I remember they all wore the same colour shirt and tie as dh and ds.
I wore an emerald slip under a white crochet gown and dh and ds wore black chinos with light green shirts and emerald ties.

ilovebencooper · 22/03/2022 22:50

Funnily enough I do! Everyone looked lovely. No one wore white although I wouldn't have cared if they did.

SingingSands · 22/03/2022 23:13

I remember my FIL forgot his shirt and luckily my uncle had a spare to lend him!

My favourite aunt wore a simple black dress and looked so sophisticated and elegant that I mental note to do the same one day - and I did!

I remember my grandad wore a brown suit and sandals 😂 and my weird aunt and uncle wore anoraks and jeans.

My SIL wore a brown suit instead of the lovely dress she'd bought because she'd had a fake tan disaster.

My baby daughter wore a beautiful little dress and lilac satin slippers and I have kept these hanging up in the loft as a keepsake.

lovelydaffodils · 22/03/2022 23:15

I have been married 19 years there were def a couple in white 🙄but as a rule no I can't remember

Blossom64265 · 22/03/2022 23:20

A few. One because she happened to end up wearing the same dress my bridesmaid selected. I just had my bridesmaid pick a random dress, it wasn’t from a wedding shop. The rest because they are in memorable photos from the day. Even if I don’t get out the album often, I remember every picture.

Albless · 22/03/2022 23:22

Only one I can remember is my cousin who wore see-through purple harem pants.

buddy79 · 22/03/2022 23:23

Yes some, but just in the sense I remember the day overall… I don’t remember or wasn’t aware of any massive faux pas but it was pretty relaxed! I remember my mum and mil’s outfits just because I remember talking with them about it beforehand… they both looked lovely. No one wrote a floor length white dress…

badlydrawnbear · 22/03/2022 23:23

No, it’s been nearly 15 years and I have no idea what anyone wore except me, DH, my bridesmaids (1 adult, 2 children). What other people were wearing wasn’t important to me at the time and definitely isn’t now.

Kite22 · 22/03/2022 23:26

Some, yes.
Plus, of course, there are the photos, so noticeable whenever you see a photo for any reason.
(Married over 25 years, so I'm not talking about a year or two ago).

Miyazaker · 22/03/2022 23:27

Some - but for some reason I also vividly remember a random relative at a friend's wedding who showed up in a hoodie, kilt and dirty trainers

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 22/03/2022 23:37

My brother's awful wife turned up in slacks and a casual shirt. She dressed the children up in casual trousers and polo shirts. The photos were horrible and we didn't even get them made up. My brother went in his work suit. This was for a church wedding. Horrible people, for many other reasons. Never saw them again after that.

Everyone else was dressed appropriately.

LadyCordeliaFitzgerald · 22/03/2022 23:42

I remember my darling grandfather came in his ordinary clothes and anorak. He rarely left the house but had made a huge effort to come for my sake. He only lived another few months and didn’t leave his house again.

Everyone else also looked lovely. I remember some outfits more than others. My cousin wore a show stealing hot pink outfit with an elaborate hat and more power to her. My three year old flower girl changed into a princess dress for the evening and definitely outdid me in aplomb.

My poor df looked uncomfortable in his suit. I regret putting him through that although he later wore it to other events. He is possibly on the autistic spectrum and takes time to get used to new clothes. I didn’t understand that at the time, and was uncharitably irritated by his awkwardness.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/03/2022 23:46

my cousin's kid wore a white with large cerise/red flowers floaty dress. looked fabulous.
