Do you remember what your guests wore to your wedding.

I have been married for nearly 43 years.
At the weekend I was sorting out with my DD the photos that I have stored.
I got out my album and realised that 3 guests wore white.
It mustn't have been a problem as I couldn't remember.

A couple of friends wore red. May they forever hang their heads in shame (according to another thread 🤣)

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/03/2022 23:53

I remember what the men wore. Mostly in kilts, including the best man who is English. My dad in a grey suit and red tie. Dh's cousin in full military Highland dress including bearskin hat .

MarmiteCoriander · 22/03/2022 23:56

Yes- I recall what my mum wore, SIL wore, a hair clip a guest wore, a dress a friend wore (and many guests) and my 1st cousins dress in particular. This was 12yrs ago. Cousin is a size 6, and wore a skin tight, white dress. At the time, I thought it odd, but no one would think she was the bride- I just assume being younger (early 20's) and had no idea it wasn't the done thing.

No, can’t remember but I look about 16 in my wedding photos ( I was 22 ). I wore my grandmothers wedding dress.

WelshyMaud · 23/03/2022 00:07

Other than the main wedding party, only a friends husband who turned up in shorts and 'smart' trainers - he stood out like a sore thumb and looked mortified all day.

MrsBerthaRochester · 23/03/2022 00:09

Yes. My sil put a horrible anorak over dn lovely flower girl dress for all the photos. My mums hat was to big and you cant see her face in pics. My mil wore a white suit and hat(my dress wasnt white so I didnt care) but she literally looks like she stood in shit in every photo. Old bitch.

Dinoteeth · 23/03/2022 00:10

I remember a couple of people's more from photos than actual memory of the day.
I find my video too heartbreaking to watch. One day I'll put it on and not cry.

ThisBooksCanDo · 23/03/2022 00:27

Only the girlfriend of a friend of DH as the split in the back of the dress went all the way up after some vigorous dancing

MrsAvocet · 23/03/2022 00:36

Nope. I'm not even sure who some of the guests were, never mind what they were wearing.

RichTeaRichTea · 23/03/2022 00:42

I remember what my mum and MIL wore but that may be because they are in a photo we have on a shelf. No one else. Someone could have worn white or black or red or whatever else people say you are supposed to wear but I don’t remember and wouldn’t have cared. This was within the last ten years

GlamorousHeifer · 23/03/2022 06:14

Only the larger lady that wore a vest top (like the £3.50 ones you get in primark) that was supposed to be white but had gone slightly grey with black lycia trousers and flip flops.
She had form and a few guests mentioned it to me but it didn't bother me......I wasn't the one dressed like that!

HelloDulling · 23/03/2022 06:22

Yes, but I have a good memory for clothes. DH’s cousin’s ex-wife sticks in the mind, in her dirty coat that looked like she’d come straight from the allotment. She has often made comments on my clothes/nails, implying that caring about my appearance makes me stupid, so I assume it was intentional.

Lubeyboobyalt · 23/03/2022 06:26

Only the one that wore a see through gold mesh top with a gold satin wonderbra underneath, and a short skirt. Eeek

DaffTheDoggo · 23/03/2022 06:42

One woman wore white trouser suit of the sort brides often wear- brave. It was fine though. My cousin wore jeans.

The thing that strikes me most looking back is that 90% of the men wore morning suits and how old-fashioned that seems now. Not just the wedding party but practically every male guest. This was completely standard in my group of friends but now seems like something from another age. DH still has his morning suit hanging in the wardrobe ready for the next wedding he’s invited to, but I’ll be amazed if he ever wears it again. These days ever grooms rarely do.

MiddleParking · 23/03/2022 06:45

There were three separate women at my wedding who really turned heads when they arrived (in a good way obviously), me and DH always discuss them as some favourite wedding memories. I couldn’t recall from the day itself what most people wore but I know the photos by heart. There were such a range of outfits and everyone looks beautiful and happy.

cptartapp · 23/03/2022 06:53

My DM wore an ivory outfit. My wedding dress was ivory. Never thought about it until now!
Don't remember anyone else.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/03/2022 06:56

I remember the one who wore a neon mankini

MinnieMountain · 23/03/2022 07:06

MIL wore a nice flowery dress that she has since worn to other weddings.

My DM wore a grey trouser suit that looked odd but I was just relieved she came (she had form- was probably agoraphobic).

Pascha · 23/03/2022 07:11

My mum had some sort of lace flowery top on. DH's mum had a trouser suit I think. Both were appropriately dressed for the occasion as were all the guests. None of it is important.

No idea but it was 25 years ago😲

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2022 07:35

I Renner three guests (all women) wore white blazers over black top. It must have have been very fashionable that year. I myself owned a cream trouser suit which I wore to at least one wedding. I blame the Spice Girls.

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2022 07:40

I think MIL might have worn bright red. She would have really stood out in the photos, but she refused to be in the same photo as FIL, so we don't have many of her. I suspect my DM had ordered my family not to wear patterns (she does this with weddings) as they are all uncharacteristically plain clothes.

MrsTimRiggins · 23/03/2022 07:40

Yes, but I did only get married three years ago.
My mum wore a bloody gorgeous hot pink shift type dress and looked amazing.
One of DHs friends girlfriends wore a beautiful bright orange dress with a great hat, she looked fab.
Both my uncles, true to form, wore hideous patterned waistcoats, the type rarely seen even twenty years ago, let alone now, and it was great because I’d expect nothing else

Everyone looked amazing, they’d all put in so much effort.

The only questionable outfit was a guest in jeans and an untucked shirt… but he had flown over from NZ for us and had left his suit hanging on his door in his bedroom back home 😂

RiverRats · 23/03/2022 07:41

I remember what my mum and Nan wore, but only because I have that photo framed. It was only a small wedding but nobody wore anything memorable, just normal wedding outfits so I didn’t pay much attention
