Just seen a clip of the press conference she gave. How generous of her to share it with the daughter of a man still trapped in Iran.

How composed and articulate she is. Honestly, with so many fucking idiots in power, how do we keep the faith in the face of what happened to Nazanin.

I need to watch the whole thing but watching clips I thought she was magnificent. Strong and full of grace.

I do think Liz Truss deserves credit - reading the analysis of how she changed the negotiations it seems she did a good job. Tulip Siddiq acknowledged that she'd focused on the situation and made it happen - in contrast to the previous foreign secretaries.

titchy · 21/03/2022 17:23

she equally could have been more critical of the Iranian government who after all are the ones who imprisoned her.

FFS her parents are still there. The Iranian Gov forced her brother to seek asylum in the UK - I'm sure she's pretty angry at Iran. Equally I'm also sure she doesn't want to risk her elderly parents being imprisoned by voicing that anger.

Honestly if some of the posters had a fraction of the principled dignity that NZR has shown they'd be the better for it.

Cma1988 · 21/03/2022 17:25

🙄

KittenKins · 21/03/2022 17:25

I really admire her, so poised, amazing considering everything that has taken place.

I do hope she takes some time out for the three of them.

Cma1988 · 21/03/2022 17:27

Sorry my eye roll was in response to @Yeahthat saying “you have no idea what my race is” (thereby missing the point) ….

TheOnlyMrsMac · 21/03/2022 17:27

I think those victim blaming her, defending the government, saying it was her own fault for travelling to see her parents and saying she is not grateful enough, are racist. Women of colour always get such a bad rap on this site (I am one).

Always this expectation of British WOC; be grateful for rescue. Sorry not sorry.

Agreed. There is a whiff of racism in my nostrils too.

Photo - back on home soil.

Oh, Nazanin. How dignified you are.
whoopsnomore · 21/03/2022 17:29
@JaniieJones Is that you Liz?
It can't be, the real Liz Truss would have staged a compassionate looking photo of Liz Truss.

eldora · 21/03/2022 17:31

@JaniieJones

'I'm sorry that she's 'not grateful enough' for some'

Nazanin Zaghari Radcliffe doesn't have to be 'grateful enough' just show some recognition of the work of those involved who secured her release rather than criticising the amount of FSs who were involved 2, 5 10? who cares.

She, more than anyone should know the Iranian regime will be rather challenging to negotiate with.

criticising the amount of FSs who were involved 2, 5 10? who cares.

What a spectacularly thoughtless and nasty comment.

Nazanin cares.
Her husband cares.
Her daughter cares.
Her family cares.
Her supporters care.

Bellagio40 · 21/03/2022 17:31

I watched it live. She is incredible. Unbelievable that some posters came on here to say that she should be more grateful. Christ on a bloody bike

SueSaid · 21/03/2022 17:32

I obviously meant who cares about the amount of FSs involved.

Of course people care that she was released.

Frazzled2207 · 21/03/2022 17:36

So elegant and composed and surprised how healthy she looks
I bet the government are hoping she might go back to the quiet life. I bet she doesn’t. Remarkable woman.

@Yeahthat you're not acquitting yourself terribly well on this thread, are you.

DrManhattan · 21/03/2022 17:39

I respect what she has said. If it were me giving a press conference I hope I would properly lay into Boris Johnson and his shit show government. Wasted opportunity.

RoseslnTheHospital · 21/03/2022 17:40

She doesn't have to be grateful to be released and to have back the freedom the rest of us have in this country. She can be as critical as she likes about the government efforts (or not) to get her released, she owes no one any thanks or gratitude. That's rather the point of being back in a democratic free society.

I find her inspiring to listen to, and it is quite remarkable how she has managed to process and understand what has happened to her.

Maybe that the intelligence services know more about what's actually happening, vs what the public are told ?

She'd have no doubt been accused by some of being rude and ungrateful.
Hawkins001 · 21/03/2022 17:41

Country's don't have intelligence agencies for no reason

TheOnlyMrsMac · 21/03/2022 17:42

She did, at Brize Norton. She did not look at all pleased to me when a reporter asked if she'd been thanked. She didn't answer the question, saying instead that she had thanked them and then she rushed off.

eldora · 21/03/2022 17:51

Are we really expected to laud the UK government for paying a debt they should have paid to Iran FORTY years ago?

Howareyouflower · 21/03/2022 17:51

@dipdye

Is it just me?

Why isn't she angrier?

Was it paradise in that jail??

'we have be e through a lot'

Understatement of the century award gone, right there

Nazanin has to be very careful what she says, she still has family in Iran who could suffer if she says anything to upset their government. Which is why the press were directed to address any political questions to her husband or her MP. She's probably on a high just now, but don't for one moment think that because she smiles, her mental health hasn't been affected.
TheOnlyMrsMac · 21/03/2022 17:59

Exactly, @Howareyouflower

Her young daughter was also in the room sitting alongside the press. She would not want to say or do anything to upset Gabriella.
