All I can say, is I fear tomorrow will be very bleak indeed and that its going to produce an awful lot of anxiety.

The politics of this may look different...
US pledges to support NATO allies putting troops into Ukraine but won't do so itself Hmm twitter.com/samramani2/status/1505638813519028229?s=21
I don’t see American boots on the ground actively fighting for a nato country either. I think they’ll send them to surrounding areas to intimidate but I think there is too much anti war rhetoric in the states. It’s still the other side of the world for them, much like Afghanistan was for us. This if they don’t send troops they can mostly ignore it and carry in with their merry lives. Until it’s on their doorstep the population will not support American troops actually fighting in another war. Whether Biden would go against popular opinion to stick to nato agreements will be the question.

Also quite a lot of seemingly Americans spreading the pro Russian shit. Including fox tv. So all the people who watch fox will be at best two siding the dilemma.

I was trying to do some sums earlier. Didn’t like the results I was getting though. Too many civilians still in Ukraine, too many kids.
Too many Russian soldiers still alive. And now more coming.

Any particular reason for that belief?

Esma the good guy's always have to fight with one hand behind their back's.
Usually it's cops v robber's./ Mafia.

To be forced into this degree of passive watching is something else.

Daily Mail (yes I know I know!) reporting Boris will be visiting Kyiv.

That's a bit cryptic isn't it? Just say it and we can make a judgement on that.

Wow, he really pissed off Rushi Sunak with that comment.

Wow what a helpful post that won't induce anxiety at all...

@Ijsbear

....and the economy is growing and generating good tax receipts. The total US DGP is roughly $21 trillion.

yeah although why they aren't putting more towards paying off their extraordinary national debt is inexplicable.

The US debt is 107% of GDP. The UK national debt is 86% of GDP. It's all relative to the size of the economy. But thanks for the irrelevant insult.

What do you think will be bleak? Are you thinking of Mariupol?
Igotjelly · 20/03/2022 22:27

I generally really value Red’s input but agree there have been a few comments like that. Absolutely no reason why tomorrow is going to any worse than today (indeed it’s a war so as we all know can be worse minute by minute!)

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 20/03/2022 22:28

Yes we all had to be prepared to be nuked Thursday and the shit was hitting the fan etc.

Not RTB, but I suppose the Mariupol ultimatum.

EsmaCannonball · 20/03/2022 22:32

The citizens and soldiers in Mariupol being threatened with military tribunals has led me to look up what these are like in Donetsk and Luhansk; basically a kangaroo court followed by an immediate execution by firing squad.

Igotjelly · 20/03/2022 22:33

I thought the 5am ‘ultimatum’ was in reference to allowing people to flee (including those currently carrying out armed resistance.

Not that I’d trust the Russians to abide by their own guarantees.

I would say that would be bleak and anxiety inducing for us here....
Ijsbear · 20/03/2022 22:34

The UKs national debt is bloody awful too.

It surprises me how people care so much.
It's one person's opinion, no one here has anymore knowledge in terms of what comes next.

Goldenbear · 20/03/2022 22:35

Every day has been bleak since the outbreak of this conflict.

With Mariupol, I just read in the Guardian that if it is not complied with it will be noted for their military court.

HappyWinter · 20/03/2022 22:36

I think it's about Mariupol. I agree that we should avoid the anxious posts as it is only going to worry posters who are already struggling with anxiety. I don't think we need to worry about Putin hitting the big red button, I am worried about civilians in Ukraine but that's an ongoing worry.

youhadmeatjello · 20/03/2022 22:37

Been away this weekend and just catching up. Glad other posters feel the same about unnecessarily cryptic posts - they just don’t really add anything as well as causing anxiety. But last time I said this I was shot down for trying to stifle opinions.

Anyway, I’m probably being a bit dim here but what does the US actually mean in that statement? Is it regards to supporting a peacekeeping mission (ie what Poland and Denmark have offered to do?)

And showing myself to be really dim here but what exactly does a peace keeping mission entail? Is there a danger it could be misconstrued? What would happen if peace keeping troops were fired on by Russians for example? I’m not trying to stir up worry, genuinely trying to get my head around it all :)

PaperTyger · 20/03/2022 22:37

Yes comments about national debt, aren't meant to be derogatory I was musing over how well the USA can cope with this assault and whether it will be left weaker for whatever comes next.
Or can it withstand it quite well...

Ijsbear · 20/03/2022 22:38

Given that Russia is employing tens of thousands of mercenary armies, I can't help thinking that Putin must have given the go ahead for that so he must know things are not going to plan.

Shame he can still pay for them, apparently.
