Thought I’d lighten the mood a little and with an almost free weekend to watch whatever I want due to husband working away wondered if I could ask the most gripping bit of TV or film you’ve ever seen...

I’ve a couple to start us off, The Fall and in particular a scene between Jamie Dorman and Gillian Anderson.

Happy Valley

May I destroy you (I was still processing this for weeks after)

Normal people (just absolutely beautiful)

Give me yours.

'Time'.. 3 part prison drama with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham...its on BBC Iplayer

ThreeRingCircus · 18/03/2022 13:33

It is cheesy looking back but honestly I love the film Misery with Kathy Bates and James Caan. Simple storyline, low budget but well acted and tense. I've seen it so many times but it still builds suspense so brilliantly. I may have to watch it again this weekend now.....

Jobhelpplease · 18/03/2022 13:34

@Monkeytapper I loved this too, I rate both Sean Bean and Stephen Graham...

Which reminds me another one on my list is This is England.

Agree on series 1 of happy valley.

Would also say the ‘urgent exit required’ scenes from line of duty, and really most of line of duty!

clpsmum · 18/03/2022 13:37

Sons of anarchy and the ending of breaking bad did it for me. Thought both were amazing.

clpsmum · 18/03/2022 13:37

It's a sin and narcos were a couple of others I was glued to

Ttelracs · 18/03/2022 13:39

So many...but I think one of the most gripping for me, and I think it's only ever been shown once, was the episode of Casualty, many years ago, where the hospital suffered a terrorist attack. I can't say I enjoyed it, exactly, but it was one of the most immersive TV experiences I've ever had.

Jobhelpplease · 18/03/2022 13:39

Another one from me from the last year is Dopesick, absolute must watch!

I seem to recall watching Captain Phillips was incredibly stressful and gripping

Tlollj · 18/03/2022 13:42

There’s a scene in the untouchables where a pram carrying a baby bounces down the stairs of a railway station. Mesmerising.

FabulousFlamingo · 18/03/2022 13:47

I will never forget the final episode of season 1 of Prison Break. The most tense I've ever been watching a tv show. It was brilliant. Makes me feel funny even thinking about it now!

Thewindwhispers · 18/03/2022 13:53

I love that moment at the end of Witness (Harrison Ford, 1985) when the bad guy realises that although he has a gun and everyone else is anti-weapon and unarmed, there are so many witnesses arriving that he can’t possibly kill all of them, and so he won’t get away with his crimes. He goes from “I’ve got all the power” to “I’m doomed” in one moment of realisation. Very powerful symbolic moment.

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 18/03/2022 14:15

The Mountain and The Viper (I audibly gasped)
Veronica Guerin, where the man attacks her, it upset me for ages.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 18/03/2022 14:27

The season 1 finale of Homeland. I was on maternity leave (relevant), was completely gripped by the story, and at the climax where he's about to flick the switch my phone rang and that was more than my pelvic floor could handle. I peed my pants.

VariationsonaTheme · 18/03/2022 14:29

Season 1 of Homeland. I’ve never held my breath watching a tv programme before.

Yes, I was going to say this. I don't think I breathed out for two hours.
Gerwurtztraminer · 18/03/2022 14:34

The original Twin Peaks. It was all so weird and creepy and on-the edge -of seat to find out whodunnit.

LaraDeSalle · 18/03/2022 14:38

My favourite version of the film and this is one of the best bits -

NeedleNoodle3 · 18/03/2022 14:43

Da Vinci Code helicopter scene.

Lipsandlashes · 18/03/2022 14:49

I thought the Chernobyl series on Sky was completely anxiety inducing. The first episode and then the final episode where you saw exactly what happened to cause the reactor to explode. Spectacular TV

A580Hojas · 18/03/2022 14:53

I watched breaking bad years after everyone else during the first lock down.

There was a scene where some characters were hiding in a trailer ... it was unbelievably tense (can't remember the full context, I'm hopeless at remembering details from TV shows).

In Halloween there's a scene where Jamie Lee Curtis is walking along suburban streets in broad daylight and you just keep thinking someone is going to jump out at her from behind every hedge she passes. Scary!!!

annabell22 · 18/03/2022 14:53

The gang rape scene in The Accused is horrendous and therefore memorable- it must be 30 years since I saw it and yet it's the first one that came to mind.

MajorMajor · 18/03/2022 14:57

Chernobyl, when they were on the roof shoveling radioactive debris, so intense it made me hold my breath

Pumpkinstace · 18/03/2022 14:58

Dexter - last 20 minutes of the last episode of season 4.
