Words you detest

I had to start this thread just to publicly gnash my teeth because I have yet again seen the word "untruth" in an online newspaper. When did this gruesome word ever become acceptable? Is it because people are too terrified to say "lie" or "liar"? It's such a mealy-mouthed, cowardly, cringy demonstration of euphemism.

Just piss off with your stupid "untruths".

Recently on here I've noticed people using 'said' and 'aforementioned'. Now these can be useful is certain contexts, eg the Law, but seem ridiculously pompous and unnecessary on a site like this. A recent post I saw was something about a new fence and a neighbour, which then became 'said' fence. It makes me think of old-fashioned solicitors. Do people, ordinary people, really talk like this in the general run of things?

@hattie43

The C word . I've seen it more on this forum than anywhere else. I hate it so much I don't even read what the person has posted because I know they're not my type of person . Illiterate and uneducated if they have no vocabulary except that .
They think they are cool and edgy. They're not, they're just foul.
ValerieCupcake · 17/03/2022 17:16

MardyOldGoth · 17/03/2022 17:16

@Cotswoldmama

I've only heard this on American TV show but when people say they did something 'on accident' instead of 'by accident' 😬😬😬
That drives me crazy!

@MardyOldGoth I also hate oftentimes! Where the hell has that come from? Lorraine Kelly said a while back and it made my skin crawl, now everyone seems to be saying it. Just say 'often', it does the job and is easier!
