Report in the Guardian that she has had her passport returned and that a negotiating team are in place.

Too early for celebrations but I have got my fingers crossed behind my back.

@Leftbutcameback

Very moving to see it announced on the news, and the newsreader getting emotional. I hope she is left in peace to do as she wants when she’s home.
Yes I thought she held it together extremely well and was obviously very moved. Joanna Gosling.

Honestly I'd be in bits. I bloody am in bits. Luckily I don't have to do anything remotely like read the news today.

NapoleonSolo · 16/03/2022 12:17

She has now "reportedly been handed over to a British team at an airport in Tehran and will leave Iran today" according to the Independent and others.

Everyone's very guarded in their reporting - "leaving Iran" is in scare quotes or happening "reportedly". I guess everyone's as sceptical as us that it will really happen.

We could easily track the flight that @BoreOfWhabylon found via ADS-B or Flightradar, but it's possible she's not on a scheduled flight. God knows how these things work.

Do we know where Richard Ratcliffe is? Is he in the UK or is he part of the UK delegation at Tehran airport?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 16/03/2022 12:20

I can't see her being on that flight - the times don't add up. But presumably there are other flights into Europe today - surely any of them would do?

MotherofPearl · 16/03/2022 12:20

Gosh I've been surprised by how emotional I've felt seeing this news. I fervently hope she arrives in the UK today. As others have said, this is a badly needed ray of light.

CaveMum · 16/03/2022 12:21

I suspect she’ll be on a private flight rather than a scheduled one.

ElectricFlower · 16/03/2022 12:21

Thankyou @BeforeGodAndAllTheFish that’s useful. How can people in this day and age deny stuff when they are on film saying it. Just say you are wrong.
Knowing what happened with the Ryanair flight and Belarus, until she’s here it’s hard to hope and imagine how hard it is for them when she’s been promised release so many times.

Thoosa · 16/03/2022 12:23

Daily Mail is saying she’s in the air, FWIW. Hopefully BBC confirm soon.

LizzieSiddal · 16/03/2022 12:25

I’m so pleased to here this. Imagine how excited her little girl is right now Grin

NapoleonSolo · 16/03/2022 12:26

IRA711 is coming into Heathrow literally right now, so if she is on it and the reportage has just been held in abeyance until she actually lands, then we might see it on the 1pm news.

IKnowYouDontTurnTheLightOn · 16/03/2022 12:26

They’ve left Iran - BBC just confirmed!

Peasandcabbage · 16/03/2022 12:26

So pleased to see this thread, have been on many here over the years. I can't watch. Might go for a long walk and check back later.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/03/2022 12:27

This is amazing news. My heart breaks at what her family has been through.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/03/2022 12:28

IRA 711 just landed at Heathrow.

I think you might be right.
Spudlet · 16/03/2022 12:29

I have to go to work shortly, I will be saying a little agnostic prayer as I do. I hope they’re safely away and home soon.

Rhannion · 16/03/2022 12:32

Some joyful news for a change!

Arcadia · 16/03/2022 12:33

News is reporting they have actually left Iran

GertrudeKerfuffle · 16/03/2022 12:34

I remember Johnson being foreign secretary and making those remarks and thinking, 'how the fuck did he get that job? Surely he'll never be PM' and yet here we are. I hope he keeps his stupid mouth shut re Nazanin going forwards Angry

Italiangreyhound · 16/03/2022 12:36

Fantastic news.

Oh I disagree. I’d like to know exactly which type of incompetence he was guilty of.

Either he imperilled a British National detained abroad by blurting out a judiciously suppressed truth, or he made a stinking great error of fact in a diplomatically explosive situation and harmed the chances of a British citizen coming home.

I think we should know the details. It can’t hurt NZR now.

FrecklesMalone · 16/03/2022 12:39

God I hope that's true about her being on the plane. I have everything crossed for her. The thought of her seeing her daughter is bringing tears to my eyes. Everything everything crossed.

Spudlet · 16/03/2022 12:41

Reuters reporting that Morad Tahbaz, a Iranian-British-American National jailed while doing conservation work, has been released from jail in Iran on furlough. Let’s hope this is a step closer to bringing him home as well. The bbc had a list of duel nationals being held in Iran, and it was just awful… there are so many Sad

TanteRose · 16/03/2022 12:42

Absolutely wonderful news!
Her husband and daughter have waited so long for this day

AngelaChasesBestLife · 16/03/2022 12:42

Saw this on the Guardian as I was feeding my baby and just wept uncontrollably. My heart hurts for what Nazarin and her family have been through. Praying she is home with her daughter today and that this is a chink of light in these horribly dark times.
