Is Anyone Doing Anything For The Platinum Jubilee?

I’m on holiday that week but haven’t really thought what to do. We don’t really know our neighbours so a street party is out. Perhaps I’ll ask DM & DF if they fancy meeting up for a little tea party. And there’ll be loads on tv. I might even buy some trashy commemorative bits!

I'll be about 32 weeks pregnant at this point sore aching and it'll probably be too hot so I'll be lay on the sofa in front of the fan with a twister lolly I won't be joining in with local activities but I'll probably watch TV

narcdad · 13/03/2022 18:29

My kids are with girl guiding so it'll be a weekend of camping, BBQ, campfire, crafts etc. if I was child free I'd be going away for the weekend.

Grantanow · 13/03/2022 18:40

Not a chance

Startuplife · 13/03/2022 18:59

Gosh I hadn’t even thought about events that might be happening here for it. We saw it as a chance to get away without using any annual leave so are off to Malaga for a long weekend

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2022 19:11

Our cul de sac had a couple of street parties a few years ago (probably the diamond jubilee and the Guild) which we missed due to holidays, so when the idea of another this year was floated on WhatsApp it would have been unfriendly not to agree to it. I'm apathetic re the monarchy, DH is more republican. But I think to a large extent it was seen as an excuse for a neighbourhood get together, having missed the last couple of usual Xmas gatherings. Whether anyone feels like celebrating anything by this summer I don't know though.

emuloc · 13/03/2022 19:53

No plans, not even sure when it is. Will idly watch some of the celebration on tv, if nothing else doing.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 13/03/2022 20:46

For those that don’t know it’s a long weekend from Fri 3rd June to Mon 6th June

OP posts:
Ragwort · 13/03/2022 22:01

No, it's Thursday 2nd June - Sunday 5th June.

Hen2018 · 13/03/2022 22:06

Nope, no interest.

I also don't think the Queen will still be alive by then (I don't mean that in a nasty way, I just think she is deteriorating faster than we are being told).

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/03/2022 22:14

The street next to mine have applied to have my street closed for a party. I've already objected to the council. They can't have it on their street as they might need their cars... Hmm

I'll probably just be at the gym. Having driven there from my house where a street party won't be happening.

CockingASnook · 13/03/2022 22:14

I’ll mostly be seething that it’s 2022 and we’re still a monarchy. Just because a dysfunctional family took some land by force, bribery or marriage hundreds of years ago shouldn’t give them the right to lord it over us today.

ChelseeDagger · 13/03/2022 22:17

Mainly I'm hoping that the Queen doesn't die before the jubilee.
I've earmarked the bank holidays for DP to sort out the garden.

ClariceQuiff · 13/03/2022 22:17

Depends on the weather! I had great hopes of day trips for the 2012 one but it hammered it down for the whole weekend.

DockOTheBay · 13/03/2022 22:20

We have a neighbours WhatsApp group. There are about 20 houses on our close, its a cul-de-sac and they're always suggesting we should do things- they even wanted to do BBQ in December.

But when I suggested the jubilee could be an excuse for a street party nobody seemed that interested. I think most people are going on holidays as its an extra long bank holiday.

DockOTheBay · 13/03/2022 22:26

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows

For those that don’t know it’s a long weekend from Fri 3rd June to Mon 6th June
Hope you haven't booked a holiday OP because those are the wrong dates!
SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/03/2022 07:37

I’m off for the whole week but not going away. Oops didn’t realise it was Thurs to Sun!

Another one grateful for the Bank Holidays (although I do work them so will need to check the rota) but no inclination to celebrate.

MintyFreshBreath · 14/03/2022 08:00

We’re in the Canaries 🙌 🎊

Journeynotdestination · 14/03/2022 08:08

I’ll be trying to save money in this financial crisis while they have a stress free mega bucks party. So nothing thanks.

LadyCatStark · 14/03/2022 08:12

Our village has a huge weekend of activities on. Having moved from a town where no one gave a crap about anyone else, I’m so looking forward to some good, simple, old fashioned fun. I couldn’t really care less about the occasion, it’s just an excuse to all come together.

NotQuitePerfect · 14/03/2022 08:16

I'll be doing nothing. Sums up what the monarchy mean to me

This as, @NETSRIK said earlier Wink

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 14/03/2022 08:21

I'm going camping like I always do May bank holiday.

But, I don't have enough annual leave to cover the Thursday and Friday, which is fine as they are currently bank holidays...

But what happens if, you know, we suddenly found ourselves in a situation where there wasn't a jubilee?

Would we still get the bank holidays? I think lots of people want to know this Grin

mdh2020 · 14/03/2022 08:59

Nothing at all - taking GD to see My Fair Lady that weekend and really looking forward to it.

ronjobbins · 14/03/2022 09:17

Really looking forward to it, organising an afternoon tea for family and friends.

FollowYourOwnNorthStar · 23/04/2022 14:53

I’d like to do something. However, I’m in Australia, so what with no public holiday here, the time difference and the lack of excitement about it here, I suspect it will be just tv viewing of certain events, depending on what time they are shown with the time difference (ie not too late at night).

I ordered some Jubilee memorabilia though, I hope it arrives in time.
