Is Anyone Doing Anything For The Platinum Jubilee?

I’m on holiday that week but haven’t really thought what to do. We don’t really know our neighbours so a street party is out. Perhaps I’ll ask DM & DF if they fancy meeting up for a little tea party. And there’ll be loads on tv. I might even buy some trashy commemorative bits!

I'm singing in the choir for a jubilee celebration concert our county is holding in the local cathedral. The Southbank Sinfonia are headlining and Gareth Malone is presenting it. Raising money for local hospices. I'm looking forward to it.

ChiswickFlo · 13/03/2022 17:13

Leaving the country ☺️👍

midsomermurderess · 13/03/2022 17:16

I'm using the extra time to go on holiday to Italy. I'm in Scotland. I think displays of royal celebration might be somewhat less prevalent than in England.

GalesThisMorning · 13/03/2022 17:19

I live in a particularly anti-monarchist corner of Wales, so thankfully will not have any flag waving or bunting round these parts!

What is there to celebrate really?

NETSRIK · 13/03/2022 17:23

I'll be doing nothing. Sums up what the monarchy mean to me.

TheGriffle · 13/03/2022 17:26

It’s my birthday on the 3rd so we will be celebrating me instead!

Gazelda · 13/03/2022 17:29

We're having a street party. As much for the community aspect - sharing food, drink and good times with neighbours after an awful few years.

And I'll be judging anyone who judges anyone who participates in any Jubilee event.

ImInStealthMode · 13/03/2022 17:30

I'm getting married on the 2nd and leaving the country on the 3rd. Cheers for the Bank Holidays Liz! Smile

WouldIwasShookspeared · 13/03/2022 17:31

No. I'm in favour of abolishing the monarchy so I'd be a fairly big hypocrite if I had any interest in celebrating any part of it.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 13/03/2022 17:35

It's my birthday so that'll be ruined by all the bank holiday noise and I'll be fuming for days.

MakingProgress2022 · 13/03/2022 17:38

Thanks for posting this op. You’ve reminded to book a long weekend out of the country to get away from it.

SellFridges · 13/03/2022 17:38

We’re on holiday in Cornwall then I’m going to see Liam Gallagher at Knebworth. Pleased about the bank hols tbh.

babywalker56 · 13/03/2022 17:40

I literally couldn't care less... I don't even know when it is

Bohemianwannabe · 13/03/2022 17:41

Hopefully yes any excuse for a bit of joy in life but she may not last that long..

IKnowYouDontTurnTheLightOn · 13/03/2022 17:43

Another one leaving the country - hurrah!

I can’t see what we’re celebrating 🤷‍♀️.

Itsbackagain · 13/03/2022 17:43

Nope, not in the slightest bit interested..

Kite22 · 13/03/2022 17:44

We are having a street party.
As much to celebrate the Community of (now) friends that has grown from the WhatsApp group set up 2 years ago at the start of the Pandemic when people were offering to help one another out.

We've been aiming to, just to get together for the community, and this is a good 'hook' to hang it on.

We don’t really know our neighbours so a street party is out.

Well, that is how you would get to know them, as happened in our road in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee.

We are also holding one at Church, and inviting the congregation of a Church that uses our building, where so many folk don't speak English either - not sure how not speaking English prevents you from enjoying a tea party Smile

KeepingAnOpenMind · 13/03/2022 17:45

Hopefully there will be a street party. Should be a good weekend!🎉🤩🍹

gogohm · 13/03/2022 17:46

Yes will throw a tea party at work but it is a church

mummysquasher · 13/03/2022 18:02

I want to know where these particularly anti monarchy / pro republican areas of Wales and Scotland are so I can book a mini break Grin I live in a particularly royalist area and would like to not be at home that weekend.

emmetgirl · 13/03/2022 18:08

Absolutely not. As a republican I'll be avoiding at all costs.

Holothane · 13/03/2022 18:09

Definitely not I’ll avoid the concert like the plague. Stranger things that weekend instead s4 will be 0ut well part one anyway.

dopenguinsdance · 13/03/2022 18:12

So far it seems very London-centric and, even if it wasn't, I don't care about it all nor does anyone I know.

midsomermurderess · 13/03/2022 18:15

@mummysquasher I''d say most of Scotland outside of 'Royal' Deeside.

MajorCarolDanvers · 13/03/2022 18:17

We are making the most of the bank holidays and going to Lanzarote for a week.

Means DH and I only need to use 3 days annual leave and the kids only miss 3 days of school.

God Bless Her Majesty.
