Is Anyone Doing Anything For The Platinum Jubilee?

I’m on holiday that week but haven’t really thought what to do. We don’t really know our neighbours so a street party is out. Perhaps I’ll ask DM & DF if they fancy meeting up for a little tea party. And there’ll be loads on tv. I might even buy some trashy commemorative bits!

Not a chance! Not interested in the slightest - will just enjoy the long weekend away from work and spend it buggering about in my garden, communing with my bees and, possibly, a bit of quiet beach fishing, far more entertaining

balalake · 13/03/2022 15:55

I will go to the local beacon lighting. Went to the one in 2012 and a dog brought laughter by responding to the prayers.

SprayedWithDettol · 13/03/2022 15:57

I don’t even know when it is. 🤣

thebellsesmereldathebells · 13/03/2022 15:59

Good God, no. I don't wish the old dear any harm but neither do I think she or her family have any constructive role to play in a modern democracy. I'm certainly not going to put up bunting or attend some sycophantic street party for her like a cap-doffing peasant. How utterly embarrassing.

AffIt · 13/03/2022 16:03

Scottish, living in a particularly pro-republican area of an historically pro-republican city, so no.

Thanks for the BH, though.

TulipsGarden · 13/03/2022 16:07

I can't imagine why anyone would. And I don't know when it is, other than summer. So no.

Daenerys77 · 13/03/2022 16:13

I don't think the Queen will be around by June.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 13/03/2022 16:13

I'm not anti monarchy, but I am anti socialising with randoms. Been in current house 2 years and know none of my neighbours, so recreating the misery that was the Golden jubilee makes my blood run cold.

Tippexy · 13/03/2022 16:18

I think the Russian situation will have significantly worsened by June. I’m (sadly) not sure that there will be much to celebrate.

Junibug · 13/03/2022 16:19

Our village is having a big party - hog roast, live music, kids games etc. As well as the celebration of a very hard working woman it's a great opportunity to all get together and have a fun day. No need to for anyone to get their knickers in a twist 😝

Ragwort · 13/03/2022 16:19

Yes Smile , a group of friends and myself are baking cakes for a tea party that is being organised locally for old folk; I expect we will have a street party - there is usually one for any excuse, I manage a shop and will be making a big window display, and I shall enjoy watching events on tv. I thoroughly enjoy community events like this.

TheGratefulBread · 13/03/2022 16:22

Avoiding mainstream TV channels. Not buying any newspapers. Muting certain words on social media. That's what I'll be doing.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/03/2022 16:23

There have been murmurings of a street party locally but I won’t be doing anything personally, no.

throughtheair · 13/03/2022 16:24

We'll be avoiding it and judging anybody who gets involved

ISeeTheLight · 13/03/2022 16:27

Close friends got married on the day of the last jubilee. They're throwing a 10 year anniversary party so we'll be going to that.
Hopefully the weather will be better...

Soubriquet · 13/03/2022 16:28

@throughtheair

We'll be avoiding it and judging anybody who gets involved
Why? ConfusedHmm

I already said I’m not celebrating and really don’t care but I’m not going to judge those who actually want to celebrate. Doesn’t harm me.

throughtheair · 13/03/2022 16:31

Soubriquet because I think people who celebrate the monarchy must be hard of thinking.

ofwarren · 13/03/2022 16:32

@Daenerys77

I don't think the Queen will be around by June.

What would happen in this circumstance? I can't imagine any parties and events will go ahead.

Ragwort · 13/03/2022 16:32

thought why on earth would you be judging anyone who is involved in the celebrations? Hmm . What do you consider a worthy use of your time on a Bank Holiday?

Riseholme · 13/03/2022 16:40

@throughtheair

We'll be avoiding it and judging anybody who gets involved
Why though? Who are you to judge? It doesn’t matter to me if there’s celebrations or not but it’s been a horrid two years and if some people want to party that’s up to them.

Regardless a lot could happen between now and June so we could be having a funeral or rationing for petrol.

Playplayaway · 13/03/2022 16:41

Our road are doing a street party. A whats app group has been created so that has put me off instantly Grin

We'll be enjoying a long lazy weekend at home. The road will be closed so we're trapped anyway!

SookieHouseboat · 13/03/2022 16:42

Ugh, no.

PleaseBeSeated · 13/03/2022 16:44

@throughtheair

Soubriquet because I think people who celebrate the monarchy must be hard of thinking.
It's hard to avoid that conclusion. And frankly, why would you try?
bigyellowTpot · 13/03/2022 17:04

No plans here. communities are not the same and not as neighbourly as they used to be. I've seen some great photos of the 1977 silver jubilee of huge street parties being held in my area and the whole community coming together. It just wouldn't happen nowadays as neighbours barely speak the same language now in my area many don't speak any English at all and do not want to mix and get involved. such a shame really.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 13/03/2022 17:07

It's odd, she clocked up 70 yrs in February so why are they faffing around in June, 4 months too late...
Her coronation was 2nd June 1953, so they're a year too early for that...

Anyway, as long as she gets to watch the Oaks and the Derby...I doubt she'll care what any of us do.🏇
