Does your partner, husband or wife look like you?

I’m reading about lookalike couples!
I met a colleague’s husband fir the first time today and couldn’t believe how similar they looked. They could easily pass as twins never mind siblings.

So, does your’s look like you? Mine doesn’t at all! Do you think it’s common? This couple is the only one I’ve met that does.

Here are some reasons just out of interest...

We’re both white, both have green eyes although mine are a brighter green. He’s a foot taller than me, different build, hair colour, skin tone.

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/03/2022 22:48

Not at all.

GalactatingGoddess · 12/03/2022 22:51

This is a real phenomenon isn't it? I've seen many couples who look so similar or like the persons actual sibling.

I quite like that DH and I look nothing like each other or any of each other's family.

HorseGallopingOnATomato · 12/03/2022 22:51

Not at all. Two different races, and he’s tall and I’m not even 5ft. I can’t think of any of my friends or family in couples that look really similar either!

D0lphine · 12/03/2022 22:55

Yeah I know couples who look like siblings.

But then I also know couples who look like chalk and cheese!

Spottybotty20 · 12/03/2022 22:58

So I’d never thought about it at all until my husband did one of those “what you’d look like as a female” photo app things and the female version of him could easily have been a sibling of mine.
We have similar hair, eye colour, he’s slightly taller than me and we are both carrying a few extra pounds.

A few people in the past have said we “go well” together.

We definitely aren’t related and I really don’t think I fancied him because he looked like me 🙈

HeadNorth · 12/03/2022 22:58

Not at all, he is a big hunky rugby playing build, I am very short and thin. I guess we are both white, apart from that not similar.

CescaCesca · 12/03/2022 22:59

Eek yes 🤣 we do look similar.
We have been mistaken for brother and sister a couple of times. Awkward!

Icanflyhigh · 12/03/2022 23:00

Yep me and DH have been told we look similar!

Magdalena543 · 12/03/2022 23:01

No, very different, but weirdly my DH looks quite like my dad, who died when I was 5. It definitely is a phenomenon that we're drawn to those whose features seem familiar to us.

Strokethefurrywall · 12/03/2022 23:02

Yep, both DH and I are dark haired, dark eyed, olive skinned, Med/Latin American looking.

My previous boyfriend was the same. But both my siblings married people who looked nothing like us, fair skinned, fair eyed.

I have a type which has always leaned toward the tall and dark.

NoLunch · 12/03/2022 23:03

I saw a photo of myself recently, and thought "I don't remember that, when was that taken?"... then I realised it wasn't me, but my husband's twin sister. Yikes.

They look nothing alike, but I look a lot like her. Which is... possibly not something to dwell on...

scrivette · 12/03/2022 23:04

We don't look alike but he is very similar in looks to a couple of my cousins, so much so that there are a few photos it's really hard to tell the difference. Funnily enough one of my cousins wives is very similar to me.

My DM's SIL looks like she could be a blood relation.

TheFormidableMrsC · 12/03/2022 23:04

My first husband and I were often asked if we were brother and sister as we had very similar features. We weren't for life sadly, we outgrew being childhood sweethearts. I think if we'd met later in life we would have been perfect. It is a thing I think!

Anystarinthesky · 12/03/2022 23:06

I look similar to DP's DM and his ex wife.

We don't look alike.

Fernandina · 12/03/2022 23:06

We have many things in common - we are both humans, we both have blue eyes and the requisite number of arms, legs, fingers and toes. Other than that, we couldn't be more different.
Grin

BestZebbie · 12/03/2022 23:06

I don’t think my DH and I look that similar apart from having similar colouring as we are from approximately the same ethnic group….but we have been mistaken for siblings, so presumably we do!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/03/2022 23:12

Not at all. He's solidly built, with very straight, very dark hair and eyes and olive skin. I'm slim and fair skinned with curly reddish hair and greenish eyes.

He's trampled all over my DNA as far as the DC are concerned too. The first time he collected DD from nursery, they said "we normally ask to see ID when someone's collecting who we've not met before, but who else's daughter could she be?!"

Disneydatknee88 · 12/03/2022 23:21

I don't think we could pass for siblings but we do have some simular features. We both have very bright blue eyes. I have a pixie chin and similar face shape to his mums side of the family but it's not something he has. I've heard about this phenomenon before though. I think it sort of rings true.

robocracker · 12/03/2022 23:23

I look like my husbands sisters

StopFeckingFaffing · 12/03/2022 23:24

Not especially alike but we are both tall, slim, blue eyes, pale skin so we are not dissimilar I suppose

crosbystillsandmash · 12/03/2022 23:27

My ex dh could have been my brother!
We both had very similar bone structure, big eyes and were naturally very slim.
How our dc look is very predictable!!

crosbystillsandmash · 12/03/2022 23:28

Second dh looks nothing like me!!

Gwenhwyfar · 12/03/2022 23:29

I hadn't even noticed the similarity between me and some of my brothers until I did the face app thing!

One of the theories of why people choose partners that resemble them is that we are drawn to familiarity and we see something familiar or similar to family members in partners. It could be totally subconscious.
And to those who say they're nothing like each other, are there personality traits that are similar to your family members because that's also something that can happen subconsciously.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/03/2022 23:31

I wonder if there's an evolutionary reason, maybe subconsciously thinking the genes are compatible?
