Dd2 is sitting on the sofa completing the QR code feedback survey from the attraction we were at today.
She always wants to rate the cleanliness of toilets or the service in a shop.
Just why????

Looking at Spar catalogues.

Rocks

My 20 month old enjoys ripping all of his toys out, then the kitchen cupboards, then the laundry, the. The bookshelves etc, etc... He’s not satisfied until everything is in the floor.
Then he likes to pour water over it all... And maybe put it all back again. He’s not the type to sit down & do a puzzle. Just love creating chaos rather than order!

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 12/03/2022 20:52

Yy to LFT's i think both of mine went through that stage.
@BertieBotts she has said she wants to be a reception teacher when she's older and a mum. Definite love of logic & structure though - I always thought engineer because she wants to figure out how things work but QA could work too - trying to break things 🤣😂

My 2.5 year old absolutely loves throwing stones in water, puddles etc and shouts PLOP. If we take him to a pebbly beach he’s entertained for hours

sweetbellyhigh · 12/03/2022 20:56

@Luredbyapomegranate

My DSD has had a profound love of eat well for less on the telly since she was 11. Mysterious
I'm with her!
Siepie · 12/03/2022 20:59

I loved filling in feedback forms as a child too! In my day they were all on paper so I'd try and fill them out in my best grown-up writing.

I used to be a Brownie leader and there was a girl who loved hoovering. If her mum arrived before we'd finished cleaning, she'd beg her mum to wait to let her hoover the room!

myyellowcar · 12/03/2022 21:12
@myyellowcar

The spa bath at the ideal standard showroom has water in it to demonstrate the jets, always has had (not the same water, it gets changed!) maybe you went there?
Oh my god you are probably right! That’s a mystery that’s plagued me for about 30 years!

VampireMoney · 12/03/2022 21:13

Oh and 2yo currently loves to correct random people on which whale or shark toy he's showing them because he knows the names of all the different kinds. So when he holds up his toy to show the barista (for example) and they say oh a shark! He'll say no, it's a tiger shark (or whichever he happens to have with him!)

FrenchyQ · 12/03/2022 21:16

My son likes to sort out the sauces in the fridge as apparently we don't put them away properly.

BrutusMcDogface · 12/03/2022 21:18

I’m so jealous of your clean and tidy kids!! That said, my 3 year old also loves removing the dryer fluff 😊

ApolloandDaphne · 12/03/2022 21:22

At around age 10 my DD was obsessed with making PowerPoint presentations. She made them on every conceivable topic then presented them to us. It's no surprise that as an adult her job involves making very sophisticated presentations!

Bluelillies · 12/03/2022 21:23

My youngest loved going round the house/shed/garden/wherever and collecting dead spiders
She’d put them in her jar and keep them proudly in her bedroom

My eldest used to go to her grandparents and take all her clothes off-she’d watch the tv without a stitch on (she did grow out of this!)

My son used to love arranging stuff like flowers or leaves in vases

Kids are weird

Herja · 12/03/2022 21:28

Scrubbing mould and dusting.

DC are 8 and 10. They fucking love it, to a startling degree. They have had physical fights over who's turn it is to do the first scrubbing, or the skirting boards (both like them best).

I had a long term leak we couldn't figure out the origin of. They were genuinely upset when it was found and the mould was growing on my bedroom wall less quickly Grin. I hate dusting with a passion,so works out well for me!

Sarri · 12/03/2022 21:30

My 8 year old daughter loves surveying things - big garden bird watch is always a hit but she regularly likes to get up early and do a quick traffic survey before breakfast from our front window. Clipboard and tally marks and she's happy as larry.

Coffeencrochet · 12/03/2022 21:31

DS is 6 and ASD, he loves finding things that he can mold into numbers and letters. He will happily sit on tbe floor for hours shaping out equations and spellings using pipe cleaners, socks, rolled up bits of paper - if he can shape it, he'll use it. No interest in doing this with pencil and paper though.

DD is 2 and loves doing evening skincare with me, so she'll brush her teeth then say "cream?" and take me by the hand to put moisturiser and lip balm on. Mornings are the same but also followed by having to style her hair daily.

shreddednips · 12/03/2022 21:37

Composting. My 3yo DS and I have recently taken up gardening and he absolutely loves putting things in our new compost bin. Going out to collect leaves for the compost occupies him for ages.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/03/2022 21:40

DD is 7 and loves watching crufts on YouTube and cooking/preparing food. She made us all sandwiches and salad for tea tonight 😀

Bohemianwannabe · 12/03/2022 21:46

I used to love filling out forms for random crap in magazines and newspapers my absolute favourite was collecting bundles of bank slips everytime we went to the bank and then filling them out kept me amused for hours. My kids used to love stones and would fill their pockets with them everytime we went out anywhere

RedWingBoots · 12/03/2022 21:57

@Comedycook

Using the supermarket self checkout
My 3 year old loves that though as she can't reach most of them I have to ensure she can hand me items.

She also watches myself and her dad doing housework and DIY intently. Then the next time she tries to 'help". Fine for hoovering or sweeping not so good if I'm sorting out brakes.

candycane222 · 12/03/2022 21:57

I'm really wishing I was 4 again now! Wonderful thread!

thaegumathteth · 12/03/2022 21:59

Dd (11) who in every other way is a typical pre teen loves antique shows. I've no idea why as nobody we know is into antiques but 🤷🏻‍♀️

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/03/2022 22:01

Oh others I had forgotten - all DS - putting kindling on the fire - loading and unloading the dishwasher - hoovering with the handheld vac.

All three like weeding too.

Unfortunately they all also like creating huge messes!

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 12/03/2022 22:01

My DD loves sculpture parks with white marble Greek/Roman sculptures and bright green foliage. She's FORBIDDEN me from ever mentioning this though because she's 16 and "it would be seriously uncool in her friends' eyes". I vaguely noticed this interest a while ago but had rather taken it with a pinch of salt until we recently visited the Louvre and went to the sculpure department and she was almost sick with excitement. Honestly, she was like a kid in a candy store. I had to drag her away in the end because I was bored witless Grin.

My own (clearly normal) childhood obsession was constructing staircases from piles of books, whereas my nephew was obsessed with Henry the Hoover and the contents of other people's wheelie bins on bin day. (I quickly learned not to suggest a walk on bin day.)

Each to their own.

DS2 likes peas & carrots a lot!

@Bagelsandbrie

I love reading these.

My son aged 9 is currently obsessed with making tin foil balls and trying to hammer them to make them as smooth as possible. No idea…!

@Bagelsandbrie I am genuinely tempted to get some tin foil and do that myself. I reckon it'd be vvv satisfying !
