What place did you hate living in? And which did you love?

Have you ever lived in a place you just couldn't get along with?

For me it was Seattle in the 90s. Beautiful city with loads to do, good job, but when my then-partner and I moved there we could just not get comfortable. Lots of very cool people, so hard to make friends. More of a "scene" than a community. We had a party with RSVPs and no one showed up. That sort of thing. Never happened before or since.

Conversely a small village in Cheshire was the warmest and most genuinely welcoming community I ever lived in. I felt at home from the day I arrived.

Hated living in a small Yorkshire village. Love living in a Yorkshire city (Leeds).

Detested Dubai. Loved Norway

A580Hojas · 08/03/2022 21:20

Hated Devon. Love London. I reckon you're either a city person or a country person. I'd probably be happyish living in any large city but would go insane somewhere extremely rural or small town.

MrsMariaReynolds · 08/03/2022 21:22

Hated Texas. Loved Norfolk.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/03/2022 21:22

Hated living in Plymouth. Grey, wet, miserable place. Everything about it seemed design to leech the life out of me.

Loved living in London. It was just vibrant and active and interesting. There was always something to do in London.

Vampirethriller · 08/03/2022 21:23

Hated the West Highlands. Loved London.

Hated living in Cornwall as a teenager, when people talk about how much they love going there on holiday I can’t help but pull a face.
I love living in London.

Hated: A small village in a national park, beautiful house, amazing scenery but nosey, interfering neighbours.
Love: Where we are now, on the outskirts of a small market town with lovely neighbours! Equally beautiful but smaller house.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 08/03/2022 21:34

Hated Lincolnshire. Love London

Camomila · 08/03/2022 21:36

I didn't hate Croydon but I didn't love it either. Dislike East London every time I visit.

I loved Raynes Park, also quite liked Chatham.

Love Brighton.

Hated Dublin. Loved Barcelona. Both pre-2005.

adriftabroad · 08/03/2022 21:38

Hated Montreal. Loved Rome (but not to live forever)

Best place for me would be London, if I was very rich!

LER83 · 08/03/2022 21:38

Absolutely hated Nottingham (lived near the train station). Most unfriendly people I've ever met.

Loved Newcastle upon Tyne, felt really safe there. Will move back one day.

Didn't like Bedfordshire - wierdly insular. Made a grand total of 0 friends from the village despite attempting to volunteer at a youth club. Which went down like a turd sandwich when it transpired that they thought I was another youth not an adult with a CRB check.

Loved Durham and the surrounding area. People were friendly, despite pockets of extreme poverty. Wonderful countryside with lots to explore - went to university there, still miss it if not the climate.

Ywnaged · 08/03/2022 21:46

Hated Beaconsfield. Love north Wales

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/03/2022 21:50
