Discrimination by Sainsburys?

Today I got some Sainsburys vouchers in the post & as usual I can't use them because I haven't gone into supermarkets for the last two years & they're 'for use instore only'.This time I could've saved £45 in total, which is not to be sneezed at. Other vouchers have been similarly tempting - except I only do deliveries now & I can't remember getting any which were valid for deliveries.

Tesco send me vouchers which I can use instore, online or with other retailers.

It's to encourage you to shop in store, that's why they issue the vouchers, to induce you to spend more.

In what way do you believe it is discrimination?

BIWI · 04/03/2022 19:02

It's called 'marketing'

FFS no idea why you would think it's discrimination. Presumably you have made a choice not to shop in store?

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2022 19:02

What is stopping you going into to the store? Presumably the marketing is aimed at getting people back into the shop in person and if you’ll save £45 it’ll be worth going.

As for why I suppose that’s a question for Sainsburys Customer Services.

BIWI · 04/03/2022 19:03

... and for the sake of balance, I had some vouchers from Lakeland last week that were for online purchases only.

Is that discrimination too?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 04/03/2022 19:03

Can you not do a store shop to use the vouchers? It's not discrimination.

cherryonthecakes · 04/03/2022 19:04

If you contact Sainsburys they might be able to convert the vouchers to Nectar points?

Do you know anyone who'd be happy to shop instore for you or buy the vouchers off you?

rattlemehearties · 04/03/2022 19:04

Targeted marketing. They want people to shop in store. Up to them what vouchers they send.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 04/03/2022 19:04

The whole point of them is to get you to shop in store so you'll make more impulse purchases.

It isnt discrimination. Just shop instore if you want to use the vouchers. If you did it before lockdowns then there isnt any reason you cant do it now.

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2022 19:04

I got those too BIWI. We have a shop in the town so I don’t need them. I had no idea i was being discriminated against for living so close to the actual shop. Shock

Roselilly36 · 04/03/2022 19:05

Speak to Sainsbury’s CS, I assume you may not feel safe shopping in store if you are disabled or CEV. Good luck.

Skelligsfeathers · 04/03/2022 19:05

Just go to the shop

SoupDragon · 04/03/2022 19:05

It might be annoying but it isn't discrimination.

BIWI · 04/03/2022 19:05

Well, it's true then, @SparklingBrook. You are an evil woman, clearly.

cherryonthecakes · 04/03/2022 19:05

Just read your post properly and they are the discount vouchers?

I use the discount vouchers for Sainsburys.com that are available to load from the Nectar app.

Sexnotgender · 04/03/2022 19:06

Definitely not discrimination.

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 04/03/2022 19:06

What sort of discrimination?

Tsuni · 04/03/2022 19:06

Are you disabled and can't leave the house and that's why you you feel discriminated against?

Hoppinggreen · 04/03/2022 19:07

You might want to have a look at the Definition of Discrimination
Not everything that’s unfair is discriminatory

user1487194234 · 04/03/2022 19:07

Choosing to do shopping online is not a protected characteristic

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/03/2022 19:07

It’s utterly wrong and you should complain vociferously to Sainsbury’s Head Office.

How very dare they.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/03/2022 19:10

It's discrimination if e.g. I can't go to a store for health or disability reasons, or say if I need to use public transport but the vouchers require me to spend £80+ & I can't carry that much shopping.

The vouchers are 5 x (£9 off an £80+ shop).

It's annoying that I sometimes get high-spend deliveries from Sainsburys but can't use the vouchers.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 04/03/2022 19:11

It's not discrimination.

gemloving · 04/03/2022 19:12

I was expecting to read a story about discrimination but it's not Discrimination. You are very likely to spend more if you shop on store, that's why it's not valid online.

ClariceQuiff · 04/03/2022 19:14

It might be worth writing to them - they might replace them with online vouchers. Worth a try - the worst they can do is refuse.

Pinkbonbon · 04/03/2022 19:15

'Here, let us offer you money off in our stores'
'Fuck you, how dare you not offer me money off on the Internet too?'.

Put it that way op. Yeah...entitled much xD
