Discrimination by Sainsburys?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/03/2022 18:59

Today I got some Sainsburys vouchers in the post & as usual I can't use them because I haven't gone into supermarkets for the last two years & they're 'for use instore only'.This time I could've saved £45 in total, which is not to be sneezed at. Other vouchers have been similarly tempting - except I only do deliveries now & I can't remember getting any which were valid for deliveries.

Tesco send me vouchers which I can use instore, online or with other retailers.

I’ve never done an online shop, OP.

It’s discrimination against me that I have to pay higher food costs in supermarkets to subsidise the online delivery to YOU.

Fernsinthegarden · 04/03/2022 20:00

@Lifeismeh for Charlie Bingham meatballs I’d claim discrimination too 🤤

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2022 20:01

@Lifeismeh

Ahh yes, I remember when I got a voucher for discount on a Charlie Bighams meatball bake. Only my local don’t actually sell them so I shouted discrimination because that’s unfair that I can’t ACTUALLY use the voucher.

A grip for you OP…

Double discrimination because that particular Charlie Bigham's is delicious! Sad

@hauntedbillybass

If I'd known it was this easy to wind up people I'd've done it years ago.

Is your name Colin Robinson?

Clarkey86 · 04/03/2022 20:04

I got a voucher today for £18(!!!) off my first online shop, but I’ve already done online shops so can’t use it. Is that discriminatory too?

Thanks for turning this into an unintended sociological experiment. So 1/4 MNers don't think about what's been going on in the world; 1/4 make huge assumptions without knowing anything about me or even reading what I wrote; 1/4 just like to insult other people; and 1/4 are rather lovely.

Cheers, m'dears!

Perhaps a percentage of MNs are folk who are disabled and have spent years fighting for rights to enable them to live a bit of an easier life within society, and are annoyed at the misappropriation of the term discrimination.
Frankola · 04/03/2022 20:06

It isn't discrimination. Marketers can create whatever offers they want as long as its not involving illegal practice and they clearly communicate T&Cs.

This is very clearly a campaign to get people to shop instore again. If you don't want to shop instore you don't get the discount. Simple. For 45 quid though I'd go to the store!

Doris86 · 04/03/2022 20:07

And the award for the most ridiculous thread of the year so far goes to….,,

Twizbe · 04/03/2022 20:07

Well this has made me laugh.

I shop in store in sainsburys and am always getting money off vouchers for online shops.

It's how they tempt you to use the other service.

But what if you don’t like using the internet and prefer to shop in store. Yes definitel
BIWI · 04/03/2022 20:09

So 1/4 MNers don't think about what's been going on in the world

And how have you reached that conclusion? Nothing in your OP was about what's been going on in the world. We could make assumptions, but then why should we? We'll respond to what you yourself have chosen to post.

1/4 make huge assumptions without knowing anything about me or even reading what I wrote

To be fair, you wrote very little about yourself or anything that would justify your ridiculous views. So people have to make assumptions.

1/4 just like to insult other people

Well, it's Friday night ...

and 1/4 are rather lovely

I think you'll find that most MNetters are quite nice, actually.

Doris86 · 04/03/2022 20:09

Definitely discrimination!

MsWalterMitty · 04/03/2022 20:10

@ifIwerenotanandroid

It's discrimination if e.g. I can't go to a store for health or disability reasons, or say if I need to use public transport but the vouchers require me to spend £80+ & I can't carry that much shopping.

The vouchers are 5 x (£9 off an £80+ shop).

It's annoying that I sometimes get high-spend deliveries from Sainsburys but can't use the vouchers.

Maybe if this is the case then Sainsbury’s isn’t the shop for you… aldi or asda can be much cheaper
CailleachGranda · 04/03/2022 20:11

@ifIwerenotanandroid

I didn't realise so many peple would get so worked up about this. Yes, it's discrimination. No, it may not be discrimination under the terms of the Equality Act.
Who is getting worked up

Is that shorthand for not agreeing with your weird view of discrimination?

RedRobyn2021 · 04/03/2022 20:11

I think for it to be discriminatory, they would need to know you have a disability.

Cherryblossoms85 · 04/03/2022 20:11

Geez. This place gets more weird by the day.

CarrieHughes · 04/03/2022 20:12

OP you MAY have a point if it was a loyalty perk. Like a loyalty voucher or something.

But this voucher isn't meant to make your life easier, it's to encourage customers to shop in-store! Why should you be given free money.

YABVVU and not very bright to boot...

Svara · 04/03/2022 20:13

It's annoying when you get the Waitrose ones but they are six for six weeks. If I get a reasonable £4 off £20 one I combine it with the meat multi-buy offers to stock the freezer but can't use the other five vouchers. No point in doing my normal shop as I won't save anything.

user1745 · 04/03/2022 20:14

It's not discrimination, it's just an offer which doesn't apply to you personally. Like a vegetarian getting a special offer for meat.

Abaababa · 04/03/2022 20:15

Your reaction is over the top. Also, takes the mic out of people who actually are discriminated against.

If you really must use the vouchers, ask someone to do the shopping for you and give me some vouchers. Win win.

Otherwise stop moaning.

Oldh · 04/03/2022 20:16

I keep getting vouchers from Morrisons when I shop there, for a good reduction on their petrol price. Only there isn't a Morrisons petrol station anywhere near me. Now that's just teasing.

user1745 · 04/03/2022 20:16

Or perhaps a better example would be a person with a peanut allergy getting an offer on peanuts. It doesn't benefit them but it doesn't penalise them either, so no harm done. Just one of those things.

Abaababa · 04/03/2022 20:17

*me = them Grin

HonestwithHope1 · 04/03/2022 20:18

As a disabled woman.

Wind your selfish neck in and pipe down -.-

Ffs mumsnet. Deal with the eletist ableistic claptrap please!

alltheapples · 04/03/2022 20:18

It is legally indirect discrimination.
But MN is notoriously disablist.
