Discrimination by Sainsburys?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/03/2022 18:59

Today I got some Sainsburys vouchers in the post & as usual I can't use them because I haven't gone into supermarkets for the last two years & they're 'for use instore only'.This time I could've saved £45 in total, which is not to be sneezed at. Other vouchers have been similarly tempting - except I only do deliveries now & I can't remember getting any which were valid for deliveries.

Tesco send me vouchers which I can use instore, online or with other retailers.

I got £50 off majestic wine coupon when I spend £200 - is that discrimination because I don't have £200 To spend on wine, of course not.

It's to encourage footfall into sainsburys and reduce online shopping because it's actually expensive to deliver shopping. Far more than they charge

hauntedbillybass · 04/03/2022 20:23

@alltheapples

It is legally indirect discrimination. But MN is notoriously disablist.
Hmm
BashfulClam · 04/03/2022 20:23

Please don’t moan to CS as they can’t do anything about it and knowing someone who works in that role you would not believe the shit they deal with, please don’t be I’ve more knob to deal with!

As a disabled woman. YOU also need to wind your neck in. Oh and it's called

ABLEISM. Someone like OP and surprise!, YOU, are being ABLEISTIC and it makes me gag

CHRIST get the damn termonology right if you wanna get on a high horse. I swear!

I've also already reported OP for being entirely ableistic and minimising/joking about actual ABLEISM.

momtoboys · 04/03/2022 20:24

That must be aggravating; but it is not discrimination.

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/03/2022 20:24

When I go into our local Sainsbury's I usually get given vouchers printed at the till. They are usually only valid for a week and I don't shop there that often so can't use them - I didn't realise I was being discriminated against!
Actually, last time they gave me a voucher for pre-prepared bagged salad which I don't buy and I know feel this is discrimination against those of us who buy individual ingredients. I must also let my lactose intolerant friend know that it is discrimination if she gets one for ice cream!
Who knew we lived in such an intolerant world Hmm

gogohm · 04/03/2022 20:24

Ps I got £6 off £60 vouchers and 25% off car food. I typically spend £50 once a month-6 weeks when we need to buy cat food - the rest of the time we go to lidl. Pretty sure their computers have realised we are customers but not frequent do they are trying to tempt us

BIWI · 04/03/2022 20:25

@alltheapples

No not discrimination at all. Your choice not to go instore. I see lots of online only deals from stores and if I choose not to shop online is that discrimination? The answer to that is no BTW

hugoagogo · 04/03/2022 20:29

Oh dear

mnetting · 04/03/2022 20:30

How do I get my hands on some of these vouchers?
I'd happily go in and redeem mine.

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/03/2022 20:31

Which category are you in in this 'experiment' OP? It is unclear. I am housebound and can sympathise in a number of ways with the prevalence of ableism in our society and how normalised it is but this is not discrimination. Petrol or a taxi is not a free method of travel to a store vs having to use public transport.

When the estate agent puts leaflets in my door offering a discount or a freebie if I sell my home am I being discriminated against because I don't own it? When domino's send a pizza leaflet through am I discriminated against because I have coeliac disease? Evidently not.

Some things are not worth the bother. You can always write to sainos and suggest they reward online customers the same way, though I would avoid telling saying they discriminate on this basis, I suspect their legal team may know better.

HonestwithHope1 · 04/03/2022 20:34

Oh soooo nice off MN HQ to delete my mesaage telling OP EXACTLY what they are! Yet will they fuck take this ableistic mocking insulting post and have a word with OP

No they fucking will not.

So beyond fed the fuck up of an ableistic world!

KaptainKaveman · 04/03/2022 20:34

Oh stop moaning OP. Talk about 1st world problems.

MsWalterMitty · 04/03/2022 20:36

I feel discriminated against by Vodafone… I work on Fridays and can’t meanie the most of their freebie Friday offers. I think i should files a complaint in order to get Fridays off… but on full time pay off course

BIWI · 04/03/2022 20:36

You did tell her to fuck off though!

I really get your frustration though @HonestwithHope1. It's obvious that @ifIwerenotanandroid doesn't have the guts to come back to the thread and apologise.

I'm not even sure she has the insight to realise just how insulting as well as stupid her posts have been.

You have the back of the rest of us though Flowers

Ohdearthatwasntgreatwasit · 04/03/2022 20:36

@BIWI

It’s an example of indirect discrimination on the grounds of disability, as it is a policy, that is applied equally to all people, but disadvantages people with disabilities to a disproportionate degree.

It’s the same principle by which prescriptive hairstyles for schoolgirls are discriminatory. Again, it’s a blanket policy, which disadvantages a group sharing a protected characteristic.

Here is some further info from Citizens Advice

BacardiOnATuesday · 04/03/2022 20:38

I don’t receive any vouchers at all so feel the most discriminated against in all this thread.

I eat too.

BIWI · 04/03/2022 20:41

But the OP didn't say that those were her disabilities - she used those as examples. And she hasn't come back to clarify.

I think it would be very difficult for anyone to seriously claim discrimination as these kinds of promotions are very widespread. See my earlier post about Lakeland. I'd imagine that as long as the supermarkets are also offering promotions based on online shopping, then this clears them of any discrimination. And I'm sure that they all do this.

nitsandwormsdodger · 04/03/2022 20:42

People’s without limbs ski down mountains
Who ever puts the shopping away after can help you in store weather that’s your partner or store staff member can help you

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 04/03/2022 20:42

LMAO I go into my Sainsbury's at least three times a week and all I ever get is vouchers to spend online...

YoBeaches · 04/03/2022 20:42

If you tell Sainsburys that you are a vulnerable Customer and can't use the supermarket in person , they will Market you differently.

If you don't use the supermarket by choice, then so be it.

Still not discrimination, on any terms.

MadForBurpees · 04/03/2022 20:49

I would take the dogs and leave.
