National offers day! Anyone else biting their nails?

I'm on tenterhooks and cannot wait until tomorrow to find out what school my dc have got into.
We live in london and the results don't get published until 5pm so it's going to be a long day.

Anybody else waiting and want to join me In my pacing or sit on me so that I don't wear a hole in the carpet?

How awful the process splits twins up. Same happened to a friend of mine in London. Best of luck with the appeal.

Dd got her first choice - hooray! But we are appealing to the grammar school for a multitude of reasons so still hoping she gets in there. That process will rumble on for months.

I’ve looked at the admissions data and it looks like my local authority has ‘solved’ it’s enormous admissions problem by admitting way over PAN in the popular secondaries and the only high school.

The high school DS is going to is taking 75 over PAN to accommodate the huge expansion in its feeder schools in previous years. It was very crowded at PAN so who knows what it’ll be like with 75 more kids.

The alternative is 75 kids with no schools looking for Y9 places though. That’s a grim prospect.

Of course all of this was entirely predictable years ago. But the council haven’t made the provision. They gave planning permission to a huge development of houses with only the requirement to provide one 4-8 school, which they allowed to ‘feed’ into a system with no places for the 30 kids they were taking. Then it doubled in size. Then they doubled the size of feeder schools to other middle schools. So those middle schools had to take way over PAN (DS’s current, very overcrowded to the point that lunchtime is a farce and you get no time if you’re 4th sitting, is taking an extra 32 pupils). That’s all starting to feed into the high school which isn’t big enough (and hasn’t had any new facilities built) but has to take 75 more kids in a feeder system with nowhere to go.

Seriously, this could all have been predicted 15 years ago when they approved planning permission without considering how it would impact on the already full popular school system that would have to accommodate it. But providing actual amenities in the ever increasing sea of new builds doesn’t seem to have been a priority at all. 🙄

I did have a feeling that this was going to happen as the same thing happened with them in primary school which again I don't understand as they are down on all applications as being a multiple (I checked and double checked before I sent it) so fingers crossed it will be a simple fix.

It’s pretty bad that you’ve had it happen twice. Hopefully it’ll be sorted soon.

I actually forgot about it but DD got into the school of our choice which is oversubscribed so we’re pleased. DS already goes there so they probably helped.
