Does anyone know what that actually means? Is he threatening nuclear war?

OP posts:

^this

Infinitemoon · 28/02/2022 12:12

We need some military commanders coming on now with expert diplomacy at the very least.

Springflowers21 · 28/02/2022 12:15

LT needs to make an apology immediately ! not that I think it will make much difference!! What a stupid bloody thing to say on national TV , talk about how to make matters worse!! I think she needs replacing to be honest as her stupid statement as escalated more shit !! Hope she hasn’t put the UK on top of Putin’s bomb list Sad

ABitOfAShitShow · 28/02/2022 12:19

Still not at the latest page but @Cats345 and @HPmagic - that is simply not true. There are anti-ballistic missiles that shoot down rockets - nuclear or otherwise. I’m not saying it’s easy when there are lots being fired concurrently but we will have people stationed at all times to intercept at least some of them.

Infinitemoon · 28/02/2022 12:21

I wouldn't be surprised if we take a small hit now from Russia.

justasking111 · 28/02/2022 12:22

Putin hasn't threatened Germany, yet they're providing massive support in the form of weapons for the Ukrainian people. I wonder why

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 28/02/2022 12:24

I also think it matters greatly what Ukraine want, and what they will settle for. Putin is looking increasingly like he is actually losing this war, and even if he manages to seize power in the short term - he won't win the long term war - there is no way on earth he could. Ukraine will never give up so he may look back on this moment and opportunity with regret alexandra

Infinitemoon · 28/02/2022 12:25

I think they sent a message originally though to only send helmets - so neutral. They have probably been cornered by NATO to help further.

It is all about language now. Do not threaten Russia - Step 1

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 28/02/2022 12:26

Unhelpful in the extreme, we are not going to take a small hit from Russia Hmm

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 28/02/2022 12:28

Germany sent weapons because they are horrified by children being blown up and thousands of people dying at the hands of Russia.

There is huge support for doing more in Germany.

No one is threatening Russia, I think you will find Russia is the only one issuing threats - seriously you don't seem to even be able to follow the most basic information infinite

Why do you always patronise people. It really is a sign of poor character.

Pernot165 · 28/02/2022 12:33

What constitutes a small hit?

I'm very much of the impression that what he's threatening is nuclear. Is there any such thing as a small nuclear hit Confused

ABitOfAShitShow · 28/02/2022 12:35

@RedToothBrush Love your posts on strategy and posturing!

@Holdingontonothing Same to you - plus the fighting spirit in yours!

To anyone speculating on the best outcome in the Ukraine, I totally understand the vested interest of the rest of the world but I really think they are the only ones who can determine what works for them.

There was somebody in the separatist region saying, at the weekend, that while they identify as Russian speakers and as culturally Russian, they actually didn’t want to become part of Russia. It’s was along the lines of ‘stay in your fucking lane - we’re doing our own thing here’. Can’t remember where it was, before someone asks for a link! Grin

ABitOfAShitShow · 28/02/2022 12:37

@FOJN Totally agree - if he hadn’t blamed Truss, he’d have just picked another name, another thing.

I also agree that he probably doesn’t like that she’s female. His ilk have respect problems for their own sex, never mind anyone else.

MarshaBradyo · 28/02/2022 12:37

@ABitOfAShitShow

To those being glad Corbin hadn’t got in - even IF he had got rid of our nukes - it wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference.

Err…it would make a massive difference if anybody got rid of them!

1. Anyone using one nuke knows they’ll get at least the same back. It’s called Mutually Assured Destruction and it’s what has kept them from being used so far.

Yes…because they act as a deterrent. Which you wouldn’t exist if you didn’t have any. Hmm

2. We’re in NATO so we don’t really need our own. A strike on any country belonging to NATO is a strike on NATO, so even if he decided to single the U.K. out (and why would he, we are a very insignificant player on the stage, particularly since we jumped out of the EU, he would be buying himself nuclear retaliation.

As a rich economy, it’s not anybody else’s job to foot our bill. What if all those equipped with nuclear weapons took the same stance?!

3. Nukes are REALLY powerful. He supposedly has 7200. Less than a hundred would wipe the life on earth out in an instant. The UK has over 200 nuclear warheads, 120 locked and loaded ready to go. We don’t need that many. Corbin wanted to stop spending money on NEW ones. We have plenty. You cannot ‘win’ a war using nukes, so why keep making more? I would rather the money were spent on something we DO need more of. Like hospital beds, like free university education, like building more affordable houses.

They become more and more advanced - as does the anti-ballistic tech that shoots them down. So you would lose your edge if your weapons were lesser. Also, they require maintenance so you have to spend. Russia has many decomposing at the bottom of the sea and we’ve ended up sending in Nuvia to deal with them.

Yes agree with this, I’d say it’s paramount too.
marieantoinehairnet · 28/02/2022 12:42

Now tell me Truss shouldn't STFU!!!

"There had been statements by various representatives at various levels about possible conflict situations and even collisions and clashes between Nato and the Russian Federation," said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin.
"We consider such statements absolutely unacceptable. I will not name the authors of these statements, although it was the British foreign secretary."
It's not clear which comments by Truss the Russian government objects to, although on Sunday she said she would support individuals from the UK joining an international force to fight for Ukraine.

Marmite17 · 28/02/2022 12:43
@Keepyourheadscrewedon yes you are right they have to allow him a way out of this that will enable him to save face or he just unravels and ?.
Agree. He is looking for rule breaking ie Liz Trusses comment as an excuse to play victim. Denmark have dispatched volunteer fighters. And put photos on twitter. It could be seen as individual choice. But incredibly stupid.
Putin was always dangerous. But the nature of the beast, will not be seen to fail. Even when more stable he said that there could not be a World without Russia.
Protesters are arrested. In most countries though the military have no say in where they fight.
He shows no regard for rules of warfare (again not alone) . He uses paid assassins.
Why don't we? One life to save many.
The problem isn't really about rules, which have been made to be broken.
It's him. A fanatical patriot living in the past. A narcissist? who seems to be in a regime where one dictator rules? And from what I've read can be killed by those next in line. All new to me!

Agree. With all your recent posts (and probably some before it but my memory isn’t that good Wink).

I wish people would stop over-dramatising when people are so clearly frightened.

Liz Truss does not have the power to ignite world war 3. At best, she’d be a convenient excuse for something that was already going to happen. NOT THAT I’M SAYING IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN.

Please everyone. Calm the fuck down and, if you can’t (I know panic is hard to navigate), maybe take a break from the internet.

Abra1d1 · 28/02/2022 12:45

‘Don’t tell him, Pike!’ moment.

If it wasn’t such a grave situation, it’d be comical!

I appreciated the line for the comedy value, although all concerning of course!
Abra1d1 · 28/02/2022 12:51

Yes, sometimes you have to laugh. Even when it’s so dreadful. It helps relieve the tension.

MarshaBradyo · 28/02/2022 12:54

Yep! Tis true
