Try Semantle.

It's like Wordle in that you need to guess the word of the day, but works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, ysterday's word was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I'm currently 840 words away with a similarity of 47%. I started at under 2%.

Anybody else attempting it?

I got it in 44 today! Went from 21.01 (cold) to guessing it right.

46 for me today! First word was minus 3.50 (colder than cold!)

I solved Semantle #30 in 159 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.44. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #11. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 28.94 (703/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I'm struggling today! Got 509/1000 on my 37th guess and haven't made it any closer since then. Currently on my 83rd guess...

I solved Semantle #30 in 98 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.28. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #82. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.73 (939/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Only went warm on guess 83 but then it was quicker. I like the strategy of using your warmest cool words.

Puzzle 30 and I have just actually got the word! And in 51 guesses! I've not got any previous ones (this is only my third one though) so I am well chuffed.

Well done! I’ve got as close as 542 but pretty stuck for now.

@TheChosenTwo to be honest I am still struggling. I don't seem to be able to make the necessary mental leaps. And I am meant to be working today!

It says the most similar word is onlt 76% so it must be something quite obscure.

So yesterday: -

Started with two random words, "guess" and "most"

More similar to guess. So I started guessing more thinking/doing type words. Didn't get much until I tried laugh (#8) which was a jump up, so explored more in the region of happy, joy, fun which were getting me closer.

Got a bit stuck here going back and forth with body parts (in case it was related to faces) and words related to social interaction which seemed to jump up a bit more but no further. Then I hit on sing (#25) which was my first green word and thought aha - entertainment is the theme. Went backwards a bit trying out different kinds of performance - dance, drama etc until I got music (#30) my second green guess.

From there just carried on with different musical words, I had the sense it was something quite classical, because symphony, orchestra, etc were scoring quite high, but so were specific instruments. First instrument I guessed was trumpet for some reason :o That was guess #49, then harp #50 was closer, guitar closer again but banjo less close. I thought I'd already guessed piano which is why I was trying out random things but then put piano in again just in case and it was right.

I guess guitar was close because guitar and piano are both common/popular instruments. I did it with DS1 and his closest guess was violin which I think is because both piano and violin are classical type instruments.

Have just got it! 132 guesses.

@BertieBotts interesting to read others thought process.
I can’t remember what I started with but started getting closer with words like teacher. Somehow progressed to painter and then saw hint about sound so then moved on to music words. Orchestra was close so I was trying loads of instruments. My closest word was violin then took a while to get piano!

OK I've got my sister in on this today, all my green words are relating to one topic and all her green words are relating to a completely different topic

I have green words 797, 878, and 905. Can’t get closer for the moment.
