I’ve given my suggestions.

icelolly12 · 24/02/2022 12:59

I don't want ww3, sorry but we shouldn't get involved

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 12:59

@smorgasbords

If any of you are watching BBC News, the Ukrainian they had on about ten minutes ago made the most crucial point as to why we, the US and the EU must intervene on their behalf.

Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons on the basis of our word, that we would help them if something like this happened. This wouldn’t be happening (probably) if Ukraine still had their nuclear weapons. We must not abandon them.

Too late now, Tobias Ellwood wanted a Nato division in Ukraine months ago, he was absolutely right.

But the timescales to get a Nato force in there would take an age and Russia would be ready for us, it would be carnage with a very uncertain outcome.

The reality is Ukraine, like Crimea before it, will end up part of Russia.

swirlsy · 24/02/2022 13:00

Getting involved doesn't necessarily mean we can avoid ww3

Bootothegoose · 24/02/2022 13:00

@MarshaBradyo

So what? Let’s ignore it until it reaches our doorstep? Like we did with the Nazis?

We can’t avoid declaring war because it’s terrifying. We can’t refuse to intervene because we don’t want world war three.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 13:01

Useful idiot'sGrin of course dear leader's Corybn strategy would have been far better

TellMeMoreHellebore · 24/02/2022 13:01

'consequences that have never been experienced in history'

apart from nuclear....what else could he be hinting at?

whysotriggered · 24/02/2022 13:02

I find the whole situation terrifying and tragic. I can't help but feel we have been played by Russia over the few decades. I don't doubt now that Russia have used social media and hackers to manipulate elections all over the World leaving the US, UK and Europe with divided populations and Governments with lukewarm relationships with each other. Perfect conditions for them to start this invasion.

I have read that China has a very good relationship with Ukraine so neutrality is the most likely stance.

icelolly12 · 24/02/2022 13:02

He's not hinting, he's telling us it will be nuclear war isn't he

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/02/2022 13:03

Well it seems pretty clear that Russian forces are attacking the whole country today.

Ok you seem to be ok with it

The General appeared to rule troops out though.

Angelswithflirtyfaces · 24/02/2022 13:04

Why are the Russians who are against Putin (only 17%) agree with this nut job doing something?
Why are they so passive when it could end so badly for them?

swirlsy · 24/02/2022 13:04

Sorry not getting involved

Kassle · 24/02/2022 13:04

He's not hinting, he's telling us it will be nuclear war isn't he

He has to say that so he's taken seriously. How seriously would you take him if he said "don't worry guys, I obviously won't go nuclear!"

smorgasbords · 24/02/2022 13:04

@MarshaBradyo A lot of people felt like in 1938 (and 1939) about Hitler, but now we realise that actually getting involved was the right decision, for the U.K. and the world. This may be a similar situation. No one WANTS ww3 (I mean, obviously some people do but most people) but sometimes we have to stand up for democracy and the kind of world we want to live in.

What do you expect them to do?
Kassle · 24/02/2022 13:05

We are involved already.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 13:07

The sizes of weapons where not as extreme as back in Hitler era

I can't help feeling that something bigger is going on behind this...

Lampzade · 24/02/2022 13:13

Friend’s daughter is studying ( dentistry) in Ukraine and didn’t think that Putin would invade so planned to stay behind.
I spoke to friend a few weeks ago and encouraged her to get her dd back home to England. She took my advice and her daughter is safe and sound in England

Bootothegoose · 24/02/2022 13:13

@MarshaBradyo

None of this is a matter of being OK with it. Who wants to go to war? But hiding in the sand and saying no not our problem is how world wars get started.

MMBaranova · 24/02/2022 13:14

The Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security in Ukraine tweets updates that are honest and credible on the situation as it is fed to them.

@StratcomCentre

They list trusted sources and fake ones that purport to be official.

Angelswithflirtyfaces · 24/02/2022 13:14

@smorgasbords rebel? Unite to show the world Putin is on his own, overthrow him? They can do a lot by letting it hapoen surely they are as guilty?

?

Are you aware of anything that goes on in Russia? Look what has happened to people on UK soil under orders from the Kremlin, did you see the reports of an extraordinary number of doctors who ‘fell’ out of windows during the covid crisis. Putin is ex-KGB and it shows in his rule. Russians have weathered many abuses that are within living memory than we could imagine. It’s not as simple as the Russian people staging a revolution, you may as well ask why the Chinese don’t ‘just’ overthrow their rulers or the North Koreans or any society ruled by people who use torture and murder to keep authority without a second thought.

At the risk of nuclear war?

Sending troops in was the unequivocally how a world war would start

Can’t remember General’s name but he was very clear on that

Would you send troops in knowing that?
