Well said *@ljsbear* . A lot of people, including myself, who have put a negative word to describe their mother can probably not relate at all to those who have put a positive word. I listen to people around me talk about things they do with their mum and how much they look forward to seeing her and how much love she shows them and I cannot relate to it at all. I have spent most of my adult life thinking I am abnormal because of this. This thread makes me feel less so. I genuinely wish I did have a loving relationship with her but I don't. None of her children do and 6 of us can't be all wrong.

I totally get where you're coming from. I'm an only child & stuck 'caring' for my mum after several strokes & heart failure. She's always been hard work. Can't manage anything herself, uses people that can do stuff for her.
I get very envious of friends when they post online 'having a glass of bubbly whilst shopping with mum' and 'had a lovely lunch with my mum'. We never did that. 😶

@JaneJeffer I know you're joking and that made me laugh, but in a metaphorical way yes she is useful in the dark! Grin
I can't believe some posters are judging others for negative words. I'm lucky to have a positive relationship with my mum but with my dad it's a very different story. You never know what others have been through!

I feel the opposite. How hard it was to be pregnant and taking care of young children and waking up several times a night for young babies? All for your child years later to sum you up with a negative word. Ungrateful for the majority of people with negative words (there will be a small percentage of exceptions).

It depends what your mother has done to you, do you think Rose West's children think she is an angel?

Karen Matthews?

Tracey Connolly?

Not all mothers are good at being mothers.

Not all mothers even try to be.

Don't judge people because they don't like their mothers, have found them abusive or fear them.
