What a repulsive man John Barrowman is

John Barrowman, indecent exposer extraordinaire has been on tv this morning talking about how it’s not sexual harassment to lob your knob out in front of your colleagues and everyone had a great time and thought it was hilarious whilst he was doing it.

How tone deaf can one man be. Even given it was over ten years ago, has it really ever been ok to behave in that way, anywhere, let alone in a workplace.

I’d love to hear from the women who were present when this was happening. I believe he actually put his penis on the shoulder of one woman. The man should have been arrested but no, he’s on tv talking about how painful it’s been for him, for this to have been brought to the attention of the public.

@Kimilybob

Weve all but lost sense of humour....context and intent mean nothing anymore....

I think the fact that all but 2 found it amusing says this was not done maliciously.

So as long as no malice there at the end of the day its a penis....i dont know when it became so offensive.

When he took it out of his trousers in public.

@GreenTeaPingPong

As far as I know he hasn't been charged or prosecuted for sexual assault or similar. Yes it's distasteful behaviour, and he should apologise, but everyone talking about 'in the workplace' in this mealy mouthed way as if he was flashing in an insurance office are a bit misguided. Actors pull all kinds of pranks on each other - haven't you heard the stories on Graham Norton? It wasn't targeting any one person.
Oh now it all makes sense. There are workplaces where placing your penis on a woman’s shoulder is something she should laugh at and others where it’s sexual assault. This is super helpful! Shall we make an exhaustive list? I’m wondering about restaurants, should be ok there right? But possibility of burns.
RachelGreeneGreep · 22/02/2022 23:36

@Perime

Miriam Margoyles talks about exposing herself often in her autobiography. I thought it was a 'luvvie' thing.

Not acceptable at all

Can't stand her and her supposedly hilarious stories. Grim.

Yes all the backstage workers, fellow actors should suck this shitty behavior up. It's showbiz baby, get your cock out! Fuck those mealy mouth prudes who think this is inappropriate.

Its been allowed for so long and not just with barrowman, because lots turn a blind eye as they don't want to upset the talent or people below them don't feel they can speak out.

Its not being a prude to think, actually you shouldn't get your genitals out in public for a "laugh" , in a workplace, or anywhere in front of people who haven't asked to see it.

Are peoples standards so low that they think this is fine Confused. Where do we draw the line on actors jokes, can dave the extra in eastenders rub his cock on people for a laugh or is it only fine for more famous stars to do this?

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/02/2022 23:43

I'm not sure why people are saying only 2 people complained. I read that 20 people had complained.

Even if "only" 2 people complained this doesn't prove everyone else found it hilarious, it simply means they didn't formally complain...

It also doesn't even matter if only 2 people found it offensive. That's plenty - you don't whack your genitals out unless everyone in the room has consented.

mummykel16 · 23/02/2022 00:02

It appears that this type of behaviour and worse actually helps some,

littlebilliie · 23/02/2022 00:07

He was smiling but looked angry at the same time, RM had truly ambushed him and didn't find it funny.

Who thinks it's fine? I said it's distasteful and he should apologise, in the bit that you didn't copy and paste.

Furries · 23/02/2022 02:26

Come on you lot, you’re being way too uptight. I used to find it hilarious to wang a tit out and bop a colleague on the head with it. Though that was mainly lunchtimes in a pub. Of an evening, it was bloody hilarious to hoik my skirt up, pull down my underwear and plonk myself on the nearest available colleague. But it was years ago, no harm done.

Oh, wait, no … never been appropriate.

He’s gross. Just another man who is sorry only because he got caught/called out. Read the fucking room Mr Barrowman - you don’t get to call cancel culture to excuse your behaviour.

Herewearestar · 23/02/2022 02:28

What I don’t understand is Russell T Davis was the Dr Who show runner when this behaviour was happening and how he has escaped any consequences.

He released some mealy mouthed statement at the time but from what I see has escaped scrutiny for his management, or lack of.

You’d think they’d be questions about him and his management of the show, but no he has now been appointed Dr Who show runner again to wide support judging by Twitter.

MangyInseam · 23/02/2022 02:35

@ThoseFestiveLights

This sort of behaviour did used to be normal in loads of workplaces. Drunkenness, exposure, grabbing women. It was very run off the mill when I worked in the media twenty years ago. God knows I also got my tits out enough times.

Times have changed - that’s a good thing. Yes I’d apologise now if someone said they were offended by my past behaviour. I think retrospectively criminalising it would be a bit wrong though.

It used to happen a lot in my early army days. Lots of young people living together and booze. I did not get my tits out but it was very very common, as were free willies. Lots of the older people had grown out of it but there were always a few that didn't seem to.
MangyInseam · 23/02/2022 02:40

@OneSwallow

MM is an embarrassment.
I can't figure out why people think she is such a great actress. She seems pretty samey to me.

Blimey, they really do walk among us. Depressing.
Furries · 23/02/2022 02:52

Some of the apologist posts on here are so depressing.

I’m heterosexual. Yet I still think that a penis is one of the most unattractive things to look at. They just look a bit pathetic.

And it’s really easy to sit there and think how you’d react when presented with one unexpectedly - laugh, ignore, yell, create distance etc.

The truth is, no one should have to imagine how they’d react. Because it shouldn’t bloody happen in the first place. Straight, gay, NB, whatever … keep your bloody trousers zipped.

Kimilybob · 23/02/2022 03:01

A lot of things border innappropriate. Thats often what makes it so funny. No ones knows how this took place so to get all uptight and then complain on behalf of others because it suits their agender is just typical. No one was harmed by it and whether it was approproate or not is debatable.

“That’s what makes it so funny”.

Just to get this straight, are you really saying that it’s appropriate for a man to wang his dick out in public/at work etc?

Small clue - your view of this is not bloody normal.

Why on Earth do you think a man getting his cock out when not everyone in the room has consented is ever appropriate?

Two people officially complained so at least two did not want to see his exposed penis. What is the percentage of people who have to complain before it’s not debatable that it’s inappropriate?

Kimilybob · 23/02/2022 04:59

As i said appropriation will differ. In this case 2 outliers may have found it inappropriate and been offended by the penis. Others werent....

Ryderneedsus · 23/02/2022 05:27

@Kimilybob I would put money on you being John Barrowman or Chris Evans. I cannot think of another person who would say that getting your dick out at work is debatably appropriate. It is flashing. Flashing is never ok.

sashh · 23/02/2022 05:28

@SNUG2022

His American accent is fake??
Sort of.

His family moved to the US from Scotland so he can switch.

Fizbosshoes · 23/02/2022 07:21

How are you so confident the others weren't offended?
I went for an interview at a hotel when i was a teen, and the person interviewing (male) took me into a bedroom and asked me to sit on the bed for the interview. Nothing untoward happened but it made me unbelievably uncomfortable and a bit scared. I didn't complain or say anyrhing though.

JustDanceAddict · 23/02/2022 07:24

Shame. I was also aBarrowman fan in the Torchwood days. He was amazing in that.
I agree that he behaved badly and should now be apologising and not defending his actions.
However, there is always context, but if it makes anyone uncomfortable it should stop and apologies should be made.

zen1 · 23/02/2022 07:24

@OneThingAndThenTheNext

I remember watching his Instagram stories, 2 maybe 3 years ago - constant taking down of his trousers and flashing his arse. Gambolling down the hall foyer in a hotel, naked from the waist down. Sitting on chairs with his trousers round his ankles, rubbing his bum on the fabric. This is not a “historical” thing, he’s only stopped as he’s been called out on it.
^^ This. I was going to say something similar. He’s probably deleted those posts now though. It makes me angry that ITV are still giving him a platform tbh.
