What a repulsive man John Barrowman is

John Barrowman, indecent exposer extraordinaire has been on tv this morning talking about how it’s not sexual harassment to lob your knob out in front of your colleagues and everyone had a great time and thought it was hilarious whilst he was doing it.

How tone deaf can one man be. Even given it was over ten years ago, has it really ever been ok to behave in that way, anywhere, let alone in a workplace.

I’d love to hear from the women who were present when this was happening. I believe he actually put his penis on the shoulder of one woman. The man should have been arrested but no, he’s on tv talking about how painful it’s been for him, for this to have been brought to the attention of the public.

My ex's brother would always get his out at every party, in fact he always ended the night completely naked, he was an air steward and boasted that he had the pick of the female cabin crew as he was the only straight one, reading this thread about John Barrowmore took me right back to those awful parties where he would stumble around naked thinking he was hilarious and gods gift.

ScreamingBeans · 22/02/2022 20:19

There are certain men who get off on the power of being able to get naked / show their nobs and get away with it by laughing it off as not sexual. They can be gay or straight.

There is a certain license regarding the behaviour of some gay men, who take liberties with women's bodies a la Gok Wan and again it's a power play which they get away with because they are gay. They can't do it to men because they'd get lamped.

Zolla · 22/02/2022 20:25

See. I don’t really feel like I’d see it as sexual harassment as rather just disgusting. If it was me, I’d very much assume he had zero intent of anything sexual cos he just thought it was hilarious Hmm but frankly, it’s gross. I do not want a penis that isn’t my husbands anywhere near me.

I wouldn’t feel threatened. Just a bit sick in my mouth.

Georgeskitchen · 22/02/2022 20:33

Imagine a straight guy doing this......

Fritilleries · 22/02/2022 20:33

@Gowithme

To me it wasn't sexual in that he wasn't aroused and wasn't intended to cause offence or distress, the cast were apparently very close - if he hardly knew the person it would be very different. Two people complained though and he stopped.

It was the sort of thing that went on at uni all the time - the lads were always getting naked and it didn't bother me, there was no threat and we knew them all very well - if it was a women pulling her top up and putting her boobs on a (sitting down) man's head I'd feel the same - if they were good enough friends to be like that then that's up to them I wouldn't be offended just think they were a bit silly and immature. It wouldn't happen in an office setting as that is quite formal and would be very weird.

I think John Barrowman puts on a big persona which comes across as a smug git. I used to think he was awful, but I felt a bit sorry for him when he was on I'm a celeb and thought he seemed quite unsure of himself. I suspect he's probably not as big a twat as people think he is just very immature in the past and it's come back to haunt him.

Are you for real? Wouldn't have been bothered??

A straight guy did do this to me. The men chortlesd
MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 22/02/2022 20:39

I used to be a big Barrowman fan. Absolutely loved Torchwood and have been to several of his shows. He is an amazing entertainer and I used to really look forward to seeing him perform live. Not now. Disgusting behaviour.

Bromse · 22/02/2022 20:41

Plenty of straight men have done this.

Noisyneighneigh · 22/02/2022 20:42

He has Scottish parents. He's not faking the accent. It can happen when you live somewhere for a long time that you start getting a twang or accent but only when you speak to the natives. When you're with your family you speak you revert to your "normal" accent. DH and I are both half English half Scottish and he sounds quite Scottish generally. However he sounds more English at home with me or with his parents. With his friends his scottish accent gets much stronger.
I know it's not the point of the thread but I just had to say it. He may be perverted but he is not an accent faker!

ThistlesAndUnicorns · 22/02/2022 20:44

@Motnight

The Victorian Age beckons?! How about the age when a man in power doesn't feel that he should get his penis out??
This a thousand times!

I've been 'lucky' enough I've only only had 2 dick pics sent to me...blocked immediately and made me feel horrible.

Take me back to Victorian times when it was fine to rape your wife.

Deadringer · 22/02/2022 20:48

Imagine if one of your colleagues did this to you in your workplace, you would have them arrested. Yet he is whining about how unfair it all is. Twat.

Marmelace · 22/02/2022 20:51

@SNUG2022

His American accent is fake??
I thought his Scottish one was too. He was Lorraine once, switching between the two, it was so cringy.
BadHairDayExpert · 22/02/2022 21:04

He gets sacked from Dancing on Ice, yet Philip Schofield is untouchable.
Amazing what an NDA and PR protection can get you.
Covid, Caroline Flack, Barrymore were good timing.

He got his knob out. David Tennant even sang about it. Many thought it was funny at the time. Camille made no comment nor did Billie. A couple of colleagues supported him. He might have been an immature dick but he was no Noel Clarke.

I do not have much sympathy but can understand why he feels he was collateral damage after the fact - it was only when Noel was accused that John was then chucked under the bus by ITV - nobody was even calling him out on here in 2008 when the stories first appeared. MN were swooning they had seen him in Tesco Grin

SailingNotSurfing · 22/02/2022 21:05

@GatoradeMeBitch

James Corden apparently tried to sneak his penis up the sleeve of one of the Gavin & Stacey producers/directors on set. I suppose many famous people like to see evidence of exactly how much power they have over others...
Surely Corden is way too tubby to be able to reach his penis, let alone stick it up someone's sleeve.
ThoseFestiveLights · 22/02/2022 21:06

This sort of behaviour did used to be normal in loads of workplaces. Drunkenness, exposure, grabbing women. It was very run off the mill when I worked in the media twenty years ago. God knows I also got my tits out enough times.

Times have changed - that’s a good thing. Yes I’d apologise now if someone said they were offended by my past behaviour. I think retrospectively criminalising it would be a bit wrong though.

SpiderVersed · 22/02/2022 21:07

But the people when talking about it the first time were acting like it was the funniest thing they had seen the lady who played Roses mum, really was not distressed about it which makes you wonder what everyone else was doing

HELL no! She was clearly hideously uncomfortable as Noah Clarke told the story.
She was trying to laugh it off in a “oh, what was he like,” way while her expression and body language were screaming YUCK!

I felt very sorry for her - first subjected to Barrowman’s assault, then sex pest Noah Clarke re-enacting it (using a microphone) in front of cameras and a live audience.

She deserves better.

LovedayCL · 22/02/2022 21:15

@Grenlei

The issue I have with Barrowman is the double standard.

If he was a hetero man he'd have been cancelled. But because he's gay we're supposed to accept it's somehow fine? That's bullshit.

Possibly not. There were similar allegations against Chris Evans.
BringBackThinEyebrows · 22/02/2022 21:18

Derren Brown has 'joked' about how it's OK for him to look down women's tops at his shows because he's gay. Misogyny is rife in the gay community.

Like other sexual predators, John Barrowman doesn't think he's done anything wrong.

LovedayCL · 22/02/2022 21:19

Women cannot win in this situation.

In what workplaces was this common in 2008?

In 1958 maybe, maybe even 1978, but not 2008

EnjoyingTheSilence · 22/02/2022 21:22

I know someone who has worked with him. Said he wasn’t liked on set by cast and crew and was quite nasty to at least a couple of people.

Can’t watch him in anything

HousePlant9 · 22/02/2022 21:28

How come this thread is ok but the Phillip Schofield one was deleted??

Terfydactyl · 22/02/2022 21:31

He has a right to make a living
Well yes but he doesn't have a right to a certain job. Pretty sure he can still earn money doing a boring job like the vast majority of us do.
Ok not as much money and zero fame, but it's still money.

Ryderneedsus · 22/02/2022 21:38

He was still doing it on the set of Arrow in 2014

“ But it seems that on set he still can't stop flashing the unsuspecting cast.”

@VioletLemon

Cannot stand the creepy AF mysoginist dickhead. Interested to know what the reaction would have been if he was doing this to men.

He certainly would not be on screen again. Women as per are supposed to grin and humour him. If he wasn't a gay man trading on camp "fun" he would be in jail. Imagine the reaction if Jeremy Clarkson went around doing this to women.

It's says everything about Barrowman, I happen to know he is a creepy weirdo. Can't believe he was on telly!! This Morning by any chance?

When I was teaching in a FE college there was a gay guy working in the Art and Design department. He didn't go as far as John Barrowman by getting his tackle out but he did make inappropriate comments to women. He felt as he was gay, and no threat to them sexually, it was just banter. An absolute tool.
