If your child was eating their eighth apple today..

When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

Of the child is eating them due to hunger they’re needing something protein based rather than fruit, if it’s not due to actual hunger then it’s greed and they need to be taught to moderate

Monopolyiscrap · 22/02/2022 15:12

@JudgeRindersMinder I am not sure toddlers are greedy.

TimePoliceTeam236 · 22/02/2022 15:12

@hibbledibble

Dentist is very happy with all my children's teeth!

Clearly this has offended some people Grin

Sorry!

You should be saying sorry to your DC if this is real.
You seem very pleased with yourself, you shouldn't be, it's not healthy for a 3 year old to be eating that amount of apples.

nanbread · 22/02/2022 15:12

A child I know screwed their teeth eating 4 apples a day. Had to have loads of fillings.

It probably won't do any damage to do it once, but I wouldn't let it become a regular thing.

I try to limit my DC to one piece of fruit a day outside of mealtimes.

I'm wondering what they are eating for their meals. Maybe they need more fat / protein to fill them up?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/02/2022 15:12

Yes I would. That's too much sugar. No one needs 8 apples a day, just because it's fruit doesn't mean it's healthy in such large quantities.

rainrainraincamedowndowndown · 22/02/2022 15:12

I really don't think people are offended. People are worried I think. It's really not healthy if a child eats 8 apples on top of regular meals.

Turquoisesea · 22/02/2022 15:15

I think a 3 year old eating 8 apples is probably equivalent to an adult eating 20 apples in a day. I don’t think anyone would think that’s a particularly good idea.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/02/2022 15:16

I am not sure toddlers are greedy.

Mine was a gannet at that age. She was like the Hungry Caterpillar. She'd eat a whole cucumber or punnet of berries on the way around the supermarket.

But I wouldn't have cut up 8 apples!

Justalittlebitfurther · 22/02/2022 15:16

OP in my opinion Mumsnet is the worst place to go for advice about this kind of thing! I’m sure your DC will be fine.

PotatoGoblins · 22/02/2022 15:16

I’d be concerned about my toilet after feeding a child 8 apples yes Shock

Yes toddlers can eat a lot. But being greedy is eating more than you need to eat. And a cucumber has very few calories in it.
ladydimitrescu · 22/02/2022 15:18

lol if you think 8 apples in a day won't cause an upset tummy - also hilarious failure at an attempt of a stealth brag.

FeelTheRush · 22/02/2022 15:19

A medium apple contains 19g of sugar so 8 apples is ~150g of sugar a day.

kirinm · 22/02/2022 15:20

My DD (aged 3) is a big vegetable and fruit fan (more veg than fruit).

There is no way I'd let her have more than one apple a day. She has a varied choice of fruit (grapes, raspberries, satsumas, blueberries, bananas, melon etc) and I don't think eating so many of one thing is necessary. I also don't think eating 8 pieces of fruit is any good either.

I’m not arguing over the semantics of a word, but if it’s not genuine hunger what is it?

Ra12345 · 22/02/2022 15:21

Is she bored?

Andacherryonthetop · 22/02/2022 15:21

Wow that’s too many apples! I think 2 maximum surely?!

Nocutenamesleft · 22/02/2022 15:22

Yes. As someone stated. Diet is about balance.

CatRatSplat · 22/02/2022 15:23

@hibbledibble look at it another way 8 apples is the same as 16 portions of fruit for a 3 year old. Hold their hand out their hand out 1 portion sits comfortably in the base of that open hand so half an apple. Put their hand into a fist, that is the size of a 3 year old's stomach.

Monopolyiscrap · 22/02/2022 15:23

@JudgeRindersMinder it can be hunger. Cucumber has very few calories and will not fill a toddler up. It is mainly plain water.

Nocutenamesleft · 22/02/2022 15:23

The other issue will be teeth

The acid in that amount of apples. Even an apple daily would cause problems with teeth. My dentist is forever saying not fruit daily!!

Queeniepies · 22/02/2022 15:23

What a weird thing to be smug about. You're just bringing up your child to be greedy and to feel the need to eat constantly

girlmom21 · 22/02/2022 15:23

The child's not greedy - it's much more likely that they're bored

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/02/2022 15:24

That’s precisely the first pout I made-and that if hunters the issue, the child needs protein, not fruit

I’m wondering if it was meant to be a stealth

It wasn’t ti I read OP saying that none of their peers will eat it and mine will!

That’s when I thought. Hmmmm. Yeah. Stealth brag.
