When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

@Gabbiadini

“Given lots of peers won’t touch anything green I think I’m doing well”.

You do know it’s not really all down to you?

I have one child who did used to try to eat 5/6 apples a day. Now it’s a maximum of 3.

I also have one child who eats an apple once a week or sometimes twice a week.

I also have a child who eats literally zero fruit in any form.

Based on them 'doing well' I feel this was a stealth boast going wrong from OP.
NiceTwin · 22/02/2022 14:49

I would be concerned about the damage to their teeth.
I would have stopped 6 apples ago.

That's how it smells to me Grin

My DD 'sneaks' broccoli from the pan. Where's my medal?

A 3YO has eaten 8 apples, plus other fruit and meals today?

1/10

To get the trophy you need to have her sneaking out to consume a whole farmers field of broccoli.

I suspect your dentist wouldn't say you're doing well...

Spitspatspot · 22/02/2022 14:55

I’d get them to stop after two or three unless I fancied an afternoon dealing with the squits Confused
Fair enough eating healthily, but it’s got to be balanced!

Exactly. Why would 3 year old needs 800 calories in snacks by lunchtime? Not to mention the sugar.
hibbledibble · 22/02/2022 14:58

Dentist is very happy with all my children's teeth!

Clearly this has offended some people Grin

Sorry!

Apples are harsh on the stomach, they will have belly ache and lots of toilet trips

AmyDudley · 22/02/2022 14:58

I think at 3 you can certainly start introducing the idea of 'if you eat all the apples there won't be enough for other people' it's good for children to start recognizing that there are other people in the world with wants and needs as well as them. And 8 apples is very greedy and unnecessary when other foods are on offer. And of course very high amount of sugar for one day.
(Even if you have unlimited apples in your house it is good to introduce the idea of moderation and consideration because they will be at others houses, at school etc when not being greedy will be important)

girlmom21 · 22/02/2022 14:59

Given lots of peers won't touch anything green I think I'm doing well.

Most toddlers I know eat loads of fruit and veg. It's when they're 4 or 5 a bit pickier.

8 apples isn't 'doing well' - it probably means they're hungry

JaninaDuszejko · 22/02/2022 15:00

DS has eaten that number of apples quite often in a day. He's 9 and helps himself so DH and I don't necessarily notice till we go to the fruit bowl and realise it's been emptied. It never has any impact on his bowel movements. There are other more substantial healthy snacks available in the house (e.g. peanut butter sandwiches) that we point him to if we realise soon enough but he can be quite sneaky and he does seem to eat lots of something then not have it for a while (e.g. he ate 6 bananas in 2 days last week, he eats loads of satsumas every Christmas). He's generally pretty fussy and quite often refuses his dinner so we do have lots of savoury snacks plus fruit in the house that he can eat if dinner is not to his liking (plus we have 2 teenagers who will eat a healthy meal then announce they are starving an hour later so we need easy food fur them as well). He's not overweight (did anyone ever get overweight from eating raw apples?), has no SEN and is NT. It's not ideal and the acid isn't great for his teeth but I'd rather he was getting the vitamins from all the fresh fruit he eats than was eating loads of sweets or crisps (which are limited). He's my poor neglected third child so I'm not going to fight with him about eating too much fruit when I know he'll get less fussy as he gets older.

This is a child, not a donkey?

Minikievs · 22/02/2022 15:00

If you think you are "doing well" then what was the point in posting and asking others their opinion?
8 is 6 too many. Possibly 7 too many at 3yo.

BoredZelda · 22/02/2022 15:01

He's not overweight (did anyone ever get overweight from eating raw apples?)

Eating too much of one thing is malnutrition, regardless of weight.

RoyKentsChestHair · 22/02/2022 15:01

I’d be pissed of if my child ate 8 apples as I buy Pink Ladies which are about 50p each! £4 on a days worth of snacks is a bit excessive. If they were cheaper apples then I’d just think the kid was hungry and offer them something more substantial. If the Apple is cut up and easy to eat rather than them having to actually crunch their way through them all it sounds a bit like mindless snacking. Presume like most vitamins, the vit C is only useful in regular sensible amounts - excess won’t make them super healthy, it will just get peed out. And the sugar and acid means this isn’t the healthy snack you think it is!

bellac11 · 22/02/2022 15:03

@JohannSebastianBach

I'd be bracing myself for child to have a "gut reaction"
Yes theres going to be a big tummy ache followed by unpleasantness.
TrashyPanda · 22/02/2022 15:03

I’d take away the apples after the second one.
Eight is mad.

starfishmummy · 22/02/2022 15:03

@Cassop

That's an excessive amount of fruit eaten so far today for a 3 year old, with more fruit on top of the apples. I'd be looking at the meals they are eating and if they're getting enough protein or carbs etc and looking at more filling snacks.
A 3 year old!! And you mentioned the apples were cut up so I assume you have done that. Why on earth aren't you stopping them eating so many? Not healthy.
Eggshausted · 22/02/2022 15:04

Just explain that the apples are for everybody to share, and if they eat 8 it is greedy because there are none left for other people.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/02/2022 15:05

You think you’re doing well because your child eats fruit and veg rather than it just being a fluke of nature. Righto.

HollowTalk · 22/02/2022 15:07

Why on earth have you cut up eight apples for a three year old? After the first or second, surely you knew that was enough?

What happens when you say, "No more today, you've had enough?"

Monopolyiscrap · 22/02/2022 15:07

I had a stomach ache often as a child because of eating like this.
I still want to eat lots of one thing for a while before moving onto something else. No idea why.
