When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

Imagine being so fixated on people eating kfc.

BocolateChiscuits · 23/02/2022 13:01

Don't worry OP. I have an apple loving DS (5). I give him free reign on the fruit bowl and if we happen to have enough in and it happens to be a day we're in a lot he will happily eat 8+ a day (think I counted 10 once!).

It's not every day, he's a healthy weight, no digestive issues, dentist says his teeth are good, and he's happy. I just wish he'd do a better job putting the cores in the compost rather than leaving them here, there, and everywhere.

Only on mumsnet could people get so horrified about a child eating an unusual amount of apples, one day.

Jacopo · 23/02/2022 13:16

As someone has just said, thank goodness some sensible posters have appeared. We’ve had people raising the possibility of pre-diabetes and even cyanide poisoning! Along with the suggestions that a helping of KFC would be preferable. Get a grip.

FlamingoDust · 23/02/2022 13:34

I always find mumsnet answers on food threads really odd! Fruit and veg is unlimited here unless we have run out/are waiting for a delivery. Both of my 2 went through a 6 apple a day phase, it's better than stuffing their faces with biscuits, crisps and sweets and they have a balanced diet!

hibbledibble · 23/02/2022 13:56

Yes it does feel a bit like entering the twilight zone here.

It was intended to be light hearted, and of course the eight apples is not a daily event. I don't have an orchard!

My children are all extremely healthy, with normal BMIs, and have healthy and varied diets. I am quite concerned by what some posters here think is a healthy diet.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 23/02/2022 14:04

Yeah, but they probably only eat an apple a week as a treat. There's a lot of competitive under-eating on MN. Or there are a lot of people who say they eat like sparrows, anyway...

Apparently not!!!

Oh come on now.

Your OP and subsequent posts implied that you were unsure whether 8 apples (EIGHT!) was too many, and then went in to say your kids had unlimited access to fruit. All of which implied that your child eats that much fruit regularly.

Besides 8 apples a day IS excessive, 8 portions of any single food in a day is excessive. And you allowed that. So, yes , whilst you claim your kids are healthy, by allowing the. 8 entire apples in one day, and the implication that it's not unusual, would actually suggest, that no, your child's diet isn't healthy.

You're just back tracking and minimising because one for your hilarious thread.

You clearly missed the light-hearted part!

As I have said multiple times, this is not a daily event, nor is it usual. You do seem rather overinvested though.

There isn’t anything light hearted about letting a 3 year old normalise binge eating, regardless of food that is or whether it’s a ‘one off’ or not.

If your child was hungry, why didn’t you give them something that was filling? Like a proper meal?

Staryflight445 · 23/02/2022 15:38

You also seem to be ignoring those questions of ‘if your child was this hungry why didn’t you feed them something appropriate to help with that?’

Instead you just let them devour 8 bloomin apples.
You’ve also ignored the posters who have had kids with acid urine and other health issues after allowing stuff like this.
You seem to even brag about your child’s stomach capacity. Your child not having the shits after eating that is not something to proud of at all.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/02/2022 15:50

This thread does lead me to believe that many here have toddlers who never eat fruit or veg, given the offence taken!

Which bit of this was the lighthearted bit again?

Jokes eh

I think OP thought everyone was going to say how fantastic she is and how they wished their DC would eat as much fruit as her DC ConfusedGrin

Wow, 8 apples a day is a lot, however lightheartedly they were eaten.

00100001 · 23/02/2022 18:53

I can't see why you'd give anyone eight apples in a day, even as a one off Confused

hibbledibble · 23/02/2022 19:16

Oh dear. I seem to have offended the crones who guard the fruit bowl and never let anyone have two of anything!

Knittingchamp · 23/02/2022 19:16

They're going to feel very uncomfortable in the bathroom later with all that fiber. It's what we in our house warn of when we say 'no more of that, you'll get funny poo' and the threat works...

Crones? Seriously? On a website mai my frequented by women you think using sexist and derogatory names for women is ok?
User134356356 · 23/02/2022 19:45

It's a very poor attempt at humour if "lighthearted" is the main defence. In order for the thread to be understood as lighthearted humour, it needs to be:

  • Relatable for most people on an everyday yet unexpected level. Along the lines of "Omg I had no idea other people experienced the same thing"
  • Exaggerated wording and phrasing that is easily identifiable as wit or sarcasm
  • A context where the events or outcome are considered humorous by society's standards

Basically, the observational humour that comedians build into their routines are funny because they shine a light on absurd, everyday situations most of us can relate to but never thought about in the way they describe it. No comedian would ever make a joke about a child eating 8 apples because it's simply not funny.

This thread is giving off massive second-hand embarrassment because OP is now insulting commenters as "crones who guard the fruit bowl and never let anyone have two of anything!" because people don't understand her "wit". Yes, we fully believe your children are fit and healthy and do not eat 8 apples every day but dear god this whole thing is so unfunny.
