When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

I think you are reading our opinions which do not agree with you , as offence

No offence has been taken

But we don't agree with giving a child so much fruit

Critique not offence

mishmased · 22/02/2022 19:01

@LemonViolet

This is a child, not a donkey?

Yes too much sweet/acid

I remember getting through 2L of apple juice in a day once when I was about 10 and my Dad going beserk at me.

That word doesn’t mean what you think it means.

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/02/2022 19:06

I don't limit fruit for DD. Sometimes she'll eat the whole lot, sometimes it stays there for weeks until it goes bad. I only say no if it's tight before dinner

@ldontWanna

Sorry you just buy a load of fruit and watch the fruit go bad? Then what? Bin it?

Satingreenshutters · 22/02/2022 19:06

Black Beauty wouldn't eat 8 apples a day.

Juanbablo · 22/02/2022 19:06

About 6 apples ago. They are going to have the shits.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 22/02/2022 19:14

This thread does lead me to believe that many here have toddlers who never eat fruit or veg, given the offence taken!

That is a ridiculous conclusion to come to!

Lots of 2 & 3 year olds DO start to refuse foods, especially greens, that they ate as babies, and I think it has been explained as an evolutionary thing - they needed to be wary of plants once they were mobile and more independent because so many are toxic.

However there is a LOT of ground between a 3 year old eating nearly a Kg of apples and others 'never eating' any fruit or veg.

Most small children enjoy lots of fruits because of the sugar content. Most will extend to cucumber or carrot sticks, some broccoli and sweetcorn, but many tend to gravitate towards higher calorie foods anyway, like cheese. They are growing fast, using loads of energy and it isn't always great to fill them up on fibre.

This was never intended as a 'brag', nor has it 'backfired'. It was meant to be light hearted, but some here are finding life far too serious.

Bollocks. Your OP said 'when would you tell them to stop?'

There was nothing 'lighthearted' about it.

He is extremely healthy with a great diet, including loads of veg. This thread does lead me to believe that many here have toddlers who never eat fruit or veg, given the offence taken!

No upset stomach or other ill effects.

Oh dear, you think we are offended and jealous of your DC eating so much fruit? Grin

I don't know if you missed the memo OP but when we're told to give our DC at least 5 a day, they are supposed to be 5 DIFFERENT fruit/veg.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 22/02/2022 19:22

I'm not offended by this at all but I am concerned that you are missing the bleeding obvious - that a child who eats 8 apples in a day as well as two meals and other fruits is clearly very hungry and not being satisfied by their meals.

Casheeeew · 22/02/2022 19:40

Honestly OP, sounds like neglect. I hope you wise up before their adult teeth, enamel damage is permanent

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 22/02/2022 19:41

@Casheeeew

Oh come on, I work with neglected kids, trust me they don’t over eat apples

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 22/02/2022 19:42

I'd probably say 4.

My youngest is a fruit and raw veg fan and his hands and feet are tinged yellow from something in the red veg he eats. Dr has said it's not a problem before I get jumped on.

8 apples a day, if regular, is not a great diet.

And it's not possible to simply say if there are no ill effects.

redbigbananafeet · 22/02/2022 19:58

Monopolyiscrap apples are 52 calories per 100g. A normal sized apple is between 90-120 calories.

optimistic40 · 22/02/2022 19:58

I'd be very happy. Younger child barely touches fruit, and avoids veg like the plague. But if he had a bad reaction to it I would cut it back!

hibbledibble · 22/02/2022 20:06

Oh dear, some people here are far too invested..

My child isn't neglected, and this isn't a regular diet.

It's the first time so many apples were consumed in one go, though regularly lots of fruit and veg are consumed.

Good to hear some others have fruit bats too!

Because it is serious. 3 years old eating 8 apples in a day on top of other meals is not normal. Their stomach is tiny.
It does sound like there's hidden issues if a child is obsessed enough to eat so much of same thing.
Mum thinking it's ok is really worrying. Like others said 5 a day is encouraged to eat 5 different fruit and veg, not 5 of same thing. So eating 8 apples is nothing to be proud of as a parent.

My 2 year old would eat apples all day long. He also eats a varied diet and a normal weight. I just stop him after about three as I end up finding half eaten apples in weird places. 😆
2YearsOfWastedTime · 22/02/2022 20:10

A Cucumber is mostly water and nothing like 8 full size apples !

@FM2013

Sparkl · 22/02/2022 20:13

I love the idea that getting kids to eat apples is some sort of achievement!

When people talk about eating greens.... they’re not talking about apples

CakeAmbushAlert · 22/02/2022 20:18

My kids love fruit but I would never ever dream of cutting up 8 apples in one day to give to them!

Would you eat 8 apples in a day @hibbledibble. No? Well don't feed your child that then.

Better than 8 snacks of crisps, sweets and a shit tea op.

Mine would just eat raw carrot and pepper if I let him. He's just turned veggie.. well 6 months ago and I think he thinks that means he can now eat like a rabbit apart from the occasional pasta and sauce 🙈

Bakewelltart987 · 22/02/2022 20:39

You say they have healthy foods plenty of fruit, veg. U do realise eating 8 apples is not healthy might as well go and get them a McDonald's or KFC. If very hungry give them more protein with their meals to fill up.

MissTrip82 · 22/02/2022 20:53

You want them to know that eating is for both nutrition and pleasure, but also not to think it’s ok to be greedy and binge-eat. It’s a fine line.

Always fascinated by those who report their dentist/dr/nurse is ‘very happy’ with their child’s teeth/weight/behaviours though. Is this really how people talk? I’ve never had a health professional say they’re ‘very happy’ with my kid’s progress to me, nor have I ever said it as a health professional. In particular it’s surely unusual to have any dental problems at 3? Not having a mouth full of cavities at 3 isn’t really a cause for great happiness is it?
It’s normal.
