When would you tell them to stop?

It's just fresh apple, cut into pieces. They are a big fruit lover.

@blacksax

That's just plain greedy.
Hahahahahahhaha what a stupid comment.
Hasselhoffsheadband · 22/02/2022 17:49

My kids get through a lot of apples but 8 in one day is a hell of a lot! I usually stop them after 3 or 4 in a day.

Auntycorruption · 22/02/2022 17:52

If it were a 3yo in a nursery/childcare setting i would be concerned about their health and level of parenting happening at home. I would be keeping a close eye on what they ate over subsequent days.

With regards the quantity I suggest either he's bored or not being fed filling & sufficient meals. Otherwise the time it takes to eat 8 apples is quite a lot of a 3 year olds attention span.

8 portions of anything isn't balanced. Variety is something to be "proud" of if that's what is motivating you, so maybe tomorrow encourage them to have 1-2 portions of a 4-5 different food groups for a more varied diet & better nutritional profile.

Londoncallingme · 22/02/2022 17:53

Mine eats 3 apples a day. He would eat more if I let him.

Classica · 22/02/2022 17:54

Eight of any one thing in a day just seems too much, whether it's 8 apples/8 yogurts/8 muffins.

Fairytoast · 22/02/2022 17:57

You are just encouraging your child to gorge. Ok so it’s fruit which is better than chocolate but it’s still excessive. And if you continue be prepared to see tooth decay, sugar is still sugar regardless if it’s table or fructose.

I think 3 is fine. With breakfast / lunch / dinner. Especially if they're fussy and don't like much variety. Yes 3 different things would be better but 2-3 of the same is normal at that age. But 8 is a different ball game!
FM2013 · 22/02/2022 17:58

I don't really see an issue with it. My 8 Yr old has been eating a whole cucumber sometimes two (on top of normal meals) everyday since he was 2.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 22/02/2022 18:00

Who the hell lets their 3-year-old eat eight of anything?? That’s just asking for a horrible stomach ache and mighty bumsplosion.

Bettyboopawoop · 22/02/2022 18:05

The child is obviously hungry and needs something substantial not that amount of apples.

Cucumbers are not comparable to apples Hmm
peboh · 22/02/2022 18:11

I'm thinking this is just a stealth post .. like look at how great I am, my kids eats fruit when others don't. Weird.

Of course their teeth are going to be fine at the moment, it takes years for sugars to break them down. However keep allowing your kid to eat 8 apples a day, and you will see the decline in dental health sooner rather than later.

Jewel52 · 22/02/2022 18:15

I get where you’re coming from as the temptation is to accept it because it’s fruit. Does it not make them feel ill? By the way, you’re not a terrible mother as some of the responses have implied but the acidity thing with their teeth would concern me. Dental work possibly...

doadeer · 22/02/2022 18:22

My son is autistic and eats a huge amount of fruit - it's one of his only safe foods but I would typically only offer two small or one larger apple. 8 sounds quite excessive and we go through huge volumes of fruit in our house! Why did he want so much apple?!

Looubylou · 22/02/2022 18:25

Your dentist may be happy now, but long term eating habits like these, will not be good for their teeth. Habits are hard to change.

LemonDrizzles · 22/02/2022 18:26

My 3 year old went through a similar phase. Is now 6 and eats more balanced mix.

Tip: buy the tiny tiny apples.

All the best

Lime37 · 22/02/2022 18:27

When a humble bragging post back fires. 🤣🤣

Silkierabbit · 22/02/2022 18:32

My son is autistic and will eat all the fruit he can find, we have to hide fruit if we have bought in large quantities. Apples are a favourite of his and if you forget to hide them, whole lot will disappear in one go. Think may be texture as once at a hotel abroad with a buffet with raw broccoli and to my surprise he came back with a whole plate full of raw broccoli piled high and ate the lot. Shock Though rest of his diet is beige and lots of meat so always glad when he gets some fruit or veg in.

whataboutbob · 22/02/2022 18:35

Haven’t RTWT but if the child was a girl, and adolescent/ pre adolescent I’d wonder whether there was some kind of eating disorder in the offing.

doadeer · 22/02/2022 18:36

@Silkierabbit
Sorry to hijack - it's a big frustration my autistic son will eat every fruit known to mankind but zero veg (even cherry tomatoes, red peppers etc) - any advice for encouraging this that's worked with your son?

ldontWanna · 22/02/2022 18:39

I don't limit fruit for DD. Sometimes she'll eat the whole lot, sometimes it stays there for weeks until it goes bad. I only say no if it's tight before dinner.

Aw that's so funny 😂

This was never intended as a 'brag', nor has it 'backfired'. It was meant to be light hearted, but some here are finding life far too serious.

He is extremely healthy with a great diet, including loads of veg. This thread does lead me to believe that many here have toddlers who never eat fruit or veg, given the offence taken!

No upset stomach or other ill effects.

Please point out one single poster who has taken 'offence' at your child eating 8 apples per day?

I'll wait...

Nobody I've seen has taken offence- it's not our kid.
