Well normally when you play at club level there can be lots of rinks (teams) playing at the same time and you have to shout so your team can hear you.

If there is a big audience the noise from the crowd can be deafening too.

The curler who plays the stone calls instructions to the sweeps. The skip, if not curling, stands at the head end and also calls instructions. You will hear phrases like, just for ice, clean, on line, weight good, hard, easy etc. The playing ice is 45m long so if they didn’t shout the sweeps wouldn’t hear what they had to do.

I have been up since 6am. Had intended to take a disco nap but that didn’t happen. Just going to pretend it’s Hogmanay and will push on through. Opened the bar at 9pm but I am pacing myself.

I’ve just turned the telly on and seen it’s about to start, went and bought a duvet down and chucked another log on the burning embers of the fire! Not sure I’ll last the duration but I’ll be here for a bit. Never watched curling at all until this week, don’t really understand the rules or scoring fully but I’ll watch until I nod off. No booze for me, I’ve had Covid this week and still feel a bit rough so I’m just on the water but cheers anyway 🥂

Ok here we go. I am so tired, can’t believe I stayed up watching crap film with DH instead of getting some sleep. I am far too old for this carry on.
