11 year old girl, what size clothes?

Can I ask what size clothes your DDs wear.
My Dd is 11 and (I think) a fairly normal sized child. She is the smallest of her friends.
She has hit puberty so is currently a bit bigger round the tummy than she was but, again, no bigger than any of her friends.
We recently went shopping and found many shops sizing to be really weird.
Age 14 clothes that would barely even fit my 9 year old round the waist!
If you have girls of a similar age, what size do they wear and where do they shop??
We did find some stuff in H&M in the end but interested to know where else to look.

Adult small to medium! She's the tallest in her class though.

Lady0racle · 11/02/2022 21:08

My DD is 11 (nearly 12) and we mainly buy her clothes from New Look or Primark. She’s quite short but otherwise average for her age and usually wears 10-11 or 11-12 depending on the fit.

PaperMonster · 11/02/2022 21:09

I’ve a ten year old who needs age 14 trousers cos her legs are long. Tops we can get away with 11-12 although she prefers baggy tops so she’ll often wear an adult top in various sizes!

I found adult sized clothes best after about age 10 - 11. Children's clothes don't really seem to allow for any kind of body shape apart from completely straight.

DD10 usually wears size 8. DD14 likes things baggy so goes for 12 - 14.

There's lots more choice for womens clothing too generally. Teen clothes seem quite limited.

VariationsonaTheme · 11/02/2022 21:12

When she was 11 she wore age 11-12. Now she’s 14 and still fits age 14 clothes but also wears women’s size 4/6/8, depending on which shop.

SellFridges · 11/02/2022 21:14

DD is 11 next week. She wears age 12 generally, and is on the tall side but skinny. She also wears adult XS or S (she loves a massive hoody).

DD likes basics from H&M, especially in summer, and has also had stuff from Abercrombie and most recently SHEIN. Still occasionally gets stuff from Next. She likes sportswear as well so that’s from whoever has the best offers on the brands she likes.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/02/2022 21:15

Approaching150cm tall. 10yo. Age 12 leggings. Trousers need adjustable waist bands. 11-12 tops as she likes them baggy, although she has sizes ranging from 8-9 to Adult XXS in her drawers. Her Scout uniform is a size 6 (the smallest) and baggy.

She is visibly smaller than her friends (although similar heightwise). She hasn't started puberty yet.

SallyWD · 11/02/2022 21:18

My DD is 11 but tall (I think 158cm). I buy her clothes in size 13-14 and they seem to fit well.

Fedupsotired · 11/02/2022 21:20

My 15 year old is 5'6 but age 14 clothes are huge around the waist on her. How much does your daughter weigh? She sounds overweight if she's wearing such large clothing at her age

Cherrysherbet · 11/02/2022 21:23

Dd is 11 and her body is starting to change. Many of her clothes are small adult.

Fedupsotired · 11/02/2022 21:23

@Lindy2 my daughters at 10 couldn't fit in adult clothes at all. My 13 year old is in a size 6. I'm surprised at how large these young children are. So sad they are having to grow up before their time and wear adult clothes. I really wish someone would invent some decent teen clothes!

RosesAndHellebores · 11/02/2022 21:26

At 11 dd was one of the tallest in the class 5'2" and needed a bra. We were buying Johnnie B (13/14) and adult 8/10 H&M, New Look, Top Shop, etc. She's 22 now. Got to 5'3-1/2, still an 8/10, fan of Oliver Bonas. Shoes are still a problem at a wide fitting 3.5.

FoamBurst · 11/02/2022 21:28

Dsd is nearly 10 and slim and tall. Wears age 13

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/02/2022 21:29

Not really. Mine wears jeans, legging, t-shirts and hoodies. Exactly like when she was 4.

And she's taller than a few of my adult female friends.

Hosum · 11/02/2022 21:29

Just turned 12 - 154cm tall. Generally needs 13-14 for length. We've moved to adult clothing size 4-6.

Winnerwinnerveggiedinner · 11/02/2022 21:29

My DD11 is 5ft 6” so gets 15/16 where available or small to medium adult (so she’ll grow into it). 12-13 yrs knickers. It’s a difficult age for the tall ones as a lot of adult clothing is inappropriate. Teen stuff is fine.

Hosum · 11/02/2022 21:31

At 9 not getting into age 14 round the waist I think is pretty unusual.

JoanThursday · 11/02/2022 21:32

My dd is 10yo and amongst the tallest in her class. But she's very, very slim around her waist and hips. She can still fit into age 8 - 9 jeans - even if they are now cropped. I have to pull in her school trousers so much, she has a handful of bunched material in the small of her back.

I used to be the same once. wistful

Spellfish · 11/02/2022 21:35

10yo dd is wearing age 8-9 or 9-10 tops, and age 11-12 trousers. Mostly from the boys section, so they come up bigger.

GorgeousGoldies · 11/02/2022 21:36

My DD is 11 and 5’6, size 9 feet (!) and wears ladies size S 8/10.

I still find really nice, age-appropriate clothes - mainly leggings or jeans with hoodies. She’s tall and slim.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/02/2022 21:38

If she's small as OP says, then yes.
SparkleSpangle · 11/02/2022 21:40

DD is ten and very slim. Primark adult size 4 clothes fit her better than anything wlse

Clammyclam · 11/02/2022 21:41

Mine is just 12
Wears size 10 ladies jeans
Age 14 leggings (or size 10 ladies)
s/m hoodies
Size 6-8 ladies size T-shirts (or small if it's logo/merch/sports brands)
She's 5ft 4 and all arms and legs.
She is curvy around her hips and a 34B
The girls in her year group are so varied it's hard to generalise.

Smartiepants79 · 11/02/2022 21:42

The H&M clothes are an age 12 and fit just fine, she also fits into age 12 in next and John Lewis and marks but they don’t particularly have what she wants.
The more ‘fashion’ brands just didn’t seem to fit right. And looked oddly proportioned to me. I couldn’t see Any of her friends fitting into them.
She is well within the healthy weight for her height.

Retrievemysanity · 11/02/2022 21:42

DD is 11 and tall so usually needs age 13 or 14 for length but the waists are often way too big. She loves her M&S tracksuit at the moment but has to safety pin the waist. The petite range in Next is good for some things for her but it is really tricky to find stuff that fits her both height wise and waist wise!
