Apparently Cressida Dick has just resigned. Great news.

Good. If only Sadiq Khan would sod off as well.

amatsip · 10/02/2022 21:08

@Staffy1

It was inevitable as she said she wasn’t going anywhere earlier today. That’s always a sure sign that they will be going. I don’t really get the whole going for someone at the top and personally blaming them when they have little control over people in an organisation behaving like arseholes or worse. She couldn’t have predicted a murdering scum bag was in the ranks, or been aware of some of the less savoury behaviour from others.
Look up Jean Charles De Menezes. Cressida Dick headed the operation which cost him his life.

How she carried on in the force after that is farcical.

bindud · 10/02/2022 21:16

Personally I think a Met where people who openly express offensive views are not welcome is better than one where they are welcome.

Who is saying otherwise?! The problem is also with those who don't openly express offensive views but who have them & are influenced by them.

You have made this only about sexism. I think the Met has myriad problems, and incremental progress on any or all of them would be better than no progress at all.

Much of the thread was framed around sexism/misogyny as that's the press focus at the moment, so that was my focus too. I wouldn't disagree that the Met has a myriad of other problems, who would? I'm not sure I would say much progress has been made since the Stephen Lawrence enquiry with regards to racism but you can disagree.

What's wrong with Sadiq Kahn.?
Catabogus · 10/02/2022 21:21

We also had Mrs Raisin, who taught Domestic Science.

Shock Gasp0de I think you might have attended the same school as me!

Flapjacker48 · 10/02/2022 21:24

Good, useless typical "political" senior officer who came through the fast-track scheme - only spent 18months a PC then spoon fed promotion after promotion in "suitable" jobs.

Janglingkeys · 10/02/2022 21:26

In a normal country you’d think a Prime Minister has a say in who the Commisioner would be - god I hope Johnson doesn’t have any input - he is under investigation for a start.

formalineadeline · 10/02/2022 21:29

Has her "plan" that Khan rejected been disclosed?

If it was anything like her earlier statements - 'we're going to fix this by going after bad individuals' ffs - I'm not surprised he told her she no longer had his confidence.

She has shown no indication whatsoever that she remotely understands the issues or the implications of this being a cultural problem not a bloody "bad apples" situation. Despite all the "I understand ... blah blah" statements after each fuck-up has been exposed.

formalineadeline · 10/02/2022 21:30

And I fucking condemn the government for keeping her in post this long.

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 21:31

I'm not sure I would say much progress has been made since the Stephen Lawrence enquiry with regards to racism but you can disagree. No, it has not.

bindud · 10/02/2022 21:37

@labyrinthlaziness so why are you so sure they can improve & progress re sexism?

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 21:40
@labyrinthlaziness so why are you so sure they can improve & progress re sexism?
I am not sure they will but I am sure they could

Motnight · 10/02/2022 21:53

That is what I don't understand, amstip. Dick was promoted after De Menezes lost his life. Unbelievable.

bindud · 10/02/2022 21:56

I am not sure they will but I am sure they could

That's pretty pointless in my book. I mean I'm sure the Tories could find other ways of dealing with the increased energy costs but meanwhile in the real world.

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 21:59

Shall we drop it @bindud? My view is I hope for change, that's all.

I would be a fool to say it will happen but I do believe it could and I hope it does.

blanketyblanked · 10/02/2022 22:10

Yay, let's hound out the first female police commissioner when many of the recent met scandals involve women being the targets of male police abuse and murder. Hmmmmmm.....

bindud · 10/02/2022 22:11

happy to agree to disagree

She should never have held the position in the first place.

Reminds me of the startling moment in 1979 when Jill Tweedie, Guardian columnist, advised women to vote for Mrs Thatcher, regardless of their normal political allegiances, simply because she was a woman and it would be good to have our first woman Prime Minister. We all know how that turned out.
Florenz · 10/02/2022 22:24

I don't care whether her replacement is a man or woman as long as they reduce crime in London.

caringcarer · 10/02/2022 22:39

She has been like 'Teflon lady' and managed to hang on so many times. The Met needs a good shake up.

She was promoted far beyond her abilities, from Jean Charles to the vile messages that came to light recently she was out of her depth.
Viviennemary · 10/02/2022 22:41

About time too. Promoted far above her capabilities

LizzieMacQueen · 10/02/2022 23:11

We need Ted Hastings.

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 23:16

@LizzieMacQueen

We need Ted Hastings.
And President Bartlett, and whatever Hugh Grant was called in Love Actually.
