Apparently Cressida Dick has just resigned. Great news.

Tbh, she was promoted above her competencies many years ago.

Time for change, but sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Some of her potential replacements are not great options either.

VladmirsPoutine · 10/02/2022 19:22

She will not face any consequences. Full pension, the lot. She should be in jail.

LizzieMacQueen · 10/02/2022 19:23

Maybe she was at one of the parties.

Howshouldibehave · 10/02/2022 19:23

Brilliant thread title, OPGrin

For what?
Florenz · 10/02/2022 19:26

Who is likely to replace her?

ScrambledSmegs · 10/02/2022 19:27

She was a convenient stooge. New broom, same old shit...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/02/2022 19:29

No doubt, but it was only last September when they extended her term by 2 years, and by then most of the scandals had happened, or at least were known about

So I'd love to know the story behind the story ...

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 19:31

Pretty big news for London.

I really, really hope that change can come for the Met, London really needs a police force it can trust. I know it will take a long time but it would be good to see the process start.

VikingVolva · 10/02/2022 19:32

People have been gunning for her more or less since her appointment.

All series of Prime Suspect are on ITV hub at the moment - have a look at the misogyny that was rife at the time she started her career, and think about what she had to overcome to be appointed. And then ask yourself who benefits most from her departure?

As a poster on the thread in 'politics' put it - Met facing a perfect storm of incidents of misogyny, so why now to force out the most senior woman officer?

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2022 19:32

How on earth can anyone change the culture

Yes there is that element.

Yamalt · 10/02/2022 19:34

No doubt she’ll be replaced with someone much better Hmm

VladmirsPoutine · 10/02/2022 19:36

It doesn't matter she's a woman. She was head of one of the most if not the most malignant institutions in the country. She should actually be in a jail cell.

WestendVBroadway · 10/02/2022 19:37

@Craftycorvid

Popped in to applaud the title!

Hers is an unfortunate name IMO; sounds like an STI, as in ‘I’m afraid it’s a nasty case of Cressida Dick - antibiotics should sort it out....’

There was a question about her once on the TV quiz Pointless. The guy got her name wrong and called her Caressa Dick. He clearly did not realise the implication of what he said.
bindud · 10/02/2022 19:38

She should actually be in a jail cell.

I don't agree with that.

It is indeed big new for us.

It's a bit worrying though that her tenure was extended in September because there was no one else up to the job!

Bosephine · 10/02/2022 19:42

I actually think if she were a man she’d have been forced to resign some time ago, after the Sarah Everard vigil at the latest. Being a woman provided her with cover for the fact she presided over an era of such gross misogyny.

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 10/02/2022 19:43

She should never have been allowed to resign. She should have been sacked a long time ago.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/02/2022 19:43

My O level Biology teacher was called Mrs Dick. More innocent times, or perhaps I was just particularly sheltered, but I don't remember too many jokes (girls' school, though).

Good news. After she directed the fuck up in which poor Juan Charles de Menezes was shot, she should surely have been ruled out of the top job.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/02/2022 19:44

Sorry, Jean, not Juan.

DingleyDel · 10/02/2022 19:44

And personally named in the Daniel Morgan report, when she was more junior. Corrupt then, corrupt now. She should have gone a long time ago.
bindud · 10/02/2022 19:45

I don't think the misogyny is anything new though. It's rooted in society so expecting it not to exist in the police force is unrealistic imo.
