Apparently Cressida Dick has just resigned. Great news.

What is it with trying to make girlbosses out of malevolent women. The same people who think Theresa May wouldn't have had any partying going on on her watch, how wonderful! YAASS QUEEN!!!

Who is doing that though?

VikingVolva · 10/02/2022 19:51

@bindud

she presided over an era of such gross misogyny.

I don't think the misogyny is anything new though. It's rooted in society so expecting it not to exist in the police force is unrealistic imo.

I think it's a good think that's the missy surfaced during her tenure.

I mean, surely no-one thinks it wasn't happening before? Or assumes it won't continue, happily back in the shadows, going forwards?

needmoreshinys · 10/02/2022 19:51

The fact that she has resigned has made me think what the hell is about to come out now, because I am sure this morning, she was deadset on not quitting

User1isnotavailable · 10/02/2022 19:52

Now it's Johnson's turn. Still hanging on my the fingertips I see.

AutomaticMoon · 10/02/2022 19:52

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Although she hasn't been brilliant recently, I do have a certain amount of admiration for her for being a Police Officer, and a female one at that, with that particular name.
Perhaps the fact that she’s an honorary Dick got her ahead in her career?

Or is it.

Out of the frying pan, into the fire, maybe.

That thought did struck my mind

Queenoftheashes · 10/02/2022 19:53

Dicks out today, Johnsons out tomorrow. Hopefully.

Loveisthere · 10/02/2022 19:53

GASP
At my school we had a Miss Nodder a Mrs Virgin and the head teacher had an inference to sex name but sorry I cannot remember it

Exactly! What’s happened since lunchtime?!
Loveisthere · 10/02/2022 19:54

Oh just remembered it was Mr Cox

ScrumptiousBears · 10/02/2022 19:54

There's nothing better out there to take over. Instead you'll have the same officers with the same poor behaviour but this time overseen by a man.

Nobody as far as I can see
Staffy1 · 10/02/2022 20:02

It was inevitable as she said she wasn’t going anywhere earlier today. That’s always a sure sign that they will be going. I don’t really get the whole going for someone at the top and personally blaming them when they have little control over people in an organisation behaving like arseholes or worse. She couldn’t have predicted a murdering scum bag was in the ranks, or been aware of some of the less savoury behaviour from others.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/02/2022 20:02

Sorry but the title of your thread sent my mind to the gutter. Blush🤣🤣🤣

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 20:05

I really, really hope that change can come for the Met,

How on earth can anyone change the culture

It will take time and effort - but the alternative is saying we just accept it how it is forever? Of course the nation needs to try to change the culture. Changing culture is really hard - but if you sack a lot of people, you can start to change it.
hached · 10/02/2022 20:06

There needs to be more vetting of applicants but also how do you attract the "good" ones as the salaries aren't great. I wouldn't want the job of a police officer.

Power corrupts so how do you eliminate that element?

The issue of ostracising those who whistleblow, again how do you tackle that. People want an easy life & it's often easier to turn a blind eye & countdown the days till your pension then make a fuss.

Grin We also had Mrs Raisin, who taught Domestic Science.
tara66 · 10/02/2022 20:12

I did not know the Mayor of London could get the Head of the Met . to resign - as he clearly did. How is that? Does the Met. Police force work for London County Council or Mayor?

Franklin12 · 10/02/2022 20:13

I did wonder looking at the title what this was going to be about....

tara66 · 10/02/2022 20:14

Although London County Council no longer exists, of course.

ScrumptiousBears · 10/02/2022 20:14

So for example if you have someone wanting to join the police who has masochistic views, how is vetting going to find that?
bindud · 10/02/2022 20:15

No my point is the police don't exist in a vacuum. You can't eradicate misogyny from the police without tackling misogyny in society.

Changing culture is really hard - but if you sack a lot of people, you can start to change it.

I don't think sacking everyone is the answer. The entire judicial system is sexist down to the numbers of female judges at the top, how female barristers are treated, how female victims are cross examined etc.

labyrinthlaziness · 10/02/2022 20:15

@tara66 The Met commissioner is picked by the home secretary who has to have due regard for the views of London’s mayor, who is also the police and crime commissioner for London.

With any senior appointment you can't stay in your role if those who are involved in your appointment no longer want you in the job.
