Should people be able to officially identify as whatever they like?

With the news that Bristol university has issues guidance to staff on the correct use of pronouns for students identifying as cats (catgender) has it now gone too far?
Surely if someone seriously believes they are a cat, then they need a doctor and a reality check not pronouns and validation?

No it is obviously bollocks (literally in some men's case). However if we do one in this direction I am going to identify as a 6 year old and go back to school, I reckon I could do pretty well if I could start over in year 1 or 2 (although I suspect my legs may seize up sitting on those little chairs all day) and I will be on every school sports team.

Catgender?! Seriously...? I thought looking back at my own facebook memories was emarassing, imagine in 10 years time looking on your memories and being reminded of that time you thought you were a cat Blush

Yes they need a GP.

But is it actually ok to identify as a cat ay Bristol university? why are cats allowed at university at all? Will they need littertrays? What about the students who are allergic to cats?

I just feel the grown ups in the room need to actually be allowed to say "Jonny you are not a cat" but instead they are being forced to go along with this stupidity and use the correct pronouns.
(nya/nyan incase you come across a cat-man and don't want to offend them!)

If I need a GP I will be going to an actual GP rather than someone who identifies as one. I'm staying firmly in reality. This is all really really stupid. And embarrassing.

If this is true then I'm really glad. Hopefully it will make the general population wake up and see that identifying as anything outside of your DNA is absolutely ridiculous.

Au contraire, it has definitely not gone far enough! "Catgender"? This is absolutely awesome, I know loads of people I could describe as cat-gender.

But it can't just stop at cats, surely. People identify with all sorts of things.

I’ve thought about what I’d say if I was asked for what my pronouns were and I think I’ve finally settled on them - “I/you”.

When people believe they are something they are not, they need help to align their thinking with reality, not the other way around. When people want healthy limbs amputated, we don't all affirm them in their choice and go ahead and amputate their limbs. We counsel them into accepting the objective truth that their limbs do not need removing. The same goes for gender. You can feel, ever so strongly, that you are another gender, but that doesn't make it true. Those who affirm them in their delusion are not being kind or "loving"; they are being cruel and deceitful.

When did we get to a point as a society where grown academic adults have to pander to the whims of young adults who want to play pretend they are animals?

Do we send them to a GP? Or a vet? They need help either way.

This is ridiculous for so many reasons.

  1. “Cat” is not a gender.
  2. Cats are male or female sexed just like humans.
  3. When talking about cats, people refer to them using pronouns not nya/ nyan 🤨.
  4. Cats don’t go to university. So if you do go to university, you are not a cat. And you should be smart enough to know that…
