I think I’m happy with this (not that’s it’s any of my business). She’s clearly made Charles very happy and has fitted into the family well.
Good for her, it’s deserved.

I can't believe how dim some people are on this thread about the monarchy and the constitution. People 'kicking-off' about things they have completely wrong and don't understand but are upset by their own inaccurate understanding.

StoneofDestiny · 06/02/2022 00:14

The sooner we have a republic the better. Ridiculous giving out titles, privilege and money to random people who contribute nothing to anything that really matters in life. Total mockery of our so called democracy.

LuluBlakey1 · 06/02/2022 00:16

@WinnieTheW0rm

To distract from Andrews upcoming activity giving evidence maybe?

Yeah, right, her father died 70 years ago today just to give a pretext for a massage to the nations

I think she had to do it now, because of her age, infirmity, and on an occasion when it'll get buried in the general Jubilee coverage

I wonder what a 'massage to the nation' would look like. Is it to do with Prince Andrew? Wink
tricky29 · 06/02/2022 00:17

She seems to sign up to good causes that are often overlooked and is genuinely interested in them. She also has a seems to enjoy a good relationship with her husband. I can't see why she wouldn't be styled consort in the way the D o E was.

There is always a bit of hysteria about Diana, but I imagine if she'd lived she would have been well over this by now.

Regardless, this is just the Queen saying what she hopes for and she's entitled to her opinion after 70 years in the job.

BreadInCaptivity · 06/02/2022 00:19

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar

Diana wasn’t a princess in her own right either - she became a princess by marrying a prince. I can’t remember if Kate is already technically a princess or not, but I bet she’ll become one when William becomes Prince of Wales.

She is in the sense she could call herself Princess William - just as Princess Micheal of Kent prefers to be known.

Essentially a nod to the fact she derives that status via marriage not birth.

If William is invested as Prince of Wales when Charles becomes King, Cathrine would become the Princess of Wales.

She would not however be Princess Catherine and never will be. You have to be born a Princess.

People get confused because of reporting of Princess Diana for example. She was never this. HRH Princess of Wales yes, then post divorce was Diana, Princess of Wales (minus the HRH) but technically she was never Princess Di.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 06/02/2022 00:19

Well not to put too fine a point on it, Charles was fucking Camilla whilst married.

Very noble and royal indeed 🙄🤣

She was his mistress.

I've long wanted a Republic, but a 70 odd year old 'king' and his now legitimate bit on the side as Queen.

Fucking laughable.

I always knew the monarchy was a joke, but this is taking the absolute piss out of the public.

DahliaBlue · 06/02/2022 00:20

When Elizabeth became Queen, her mother became Queen Mother instead of Queen Consort. So when William becomes King will Camilla be Queen Stepmother? Grin

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 00:21

It has only been announced this evening that Andrew with give evidence in the trial.

ClariceQuiff · 06/02/2022 00:23

She seems to sign up to good causes that are often overlooked and is genuinely interested in them.

Yes - she is President of the Royal Osteoporosis Society, but originally had to be 'talked into' accepting the role of patron because the request came at the time she was very unpopular and she was worried that her patronage might do more harm than good. She became involved in the charity originally because her mother had died of osteoporosis.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 00:23

So what is the top Royal story in the news?
Meaningless fluff about what the Queen wants Camilla to be called. This does not mean this will be her title, the Queen does not decide this.
It is - oh look over there. Ignore the latest development with my alleged rapist son.
Disgusting.

tkwal · 06/02/2022 00:24

Camilla may technically become Queen Consort (as was the late Queen Mother) but I think it would be more tactful if she were to continue to use Duchess of Cornwall, Precedent set by Prince Phillip as the consort to the Monarch

CailleachGranda · 06/02/2022 00:25

@Pyriah

Disgusting. I would vote for a republic long before I accept Camilla as Queen of England.
Queen of England? We hadn't had one of those since Queen Anne
RestingMurderousFace · 06/02/2022 00:25

It's all a load of old bollocks.

ClariceQuiff · 06/02/2022 00:27

This does not mean this will be her title, the Queen does not decide this

It will be Charles's decision when the time comes, obviously - I'd imagine he'd take both his mother's and Camilla's wishes into consideration.

Whatever she styles herself as, as wife of the King, she will be Queen, just as she is now Princess of Wales.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 00:29

Charles had already made clear that he wanted Camilla to be called Queen.
This is a non-story as a distraction from Andrew.
The Queen is continuing to support Andrew with tactics like this.

Peregrina · 06/02/2022 00:31

The queen mother supposedly hated dowager queen .

I thought that was because she was relatively young when George VI died. But even if he'd live 20 years longer there would still have been the problem with her having the same name as her daughter.

Youcansaythatagainandagain · 06/02/2022 00:34

Do the posters who are 'glad' for them or 'shocked by the news' genuinely believe this family or any family deserves to be held up as heads of state for generations?
I'm not from the UK and find this acceptance of the RF's status truly baffling.

SenecaFallsRedux · 06/02/2022 00:34

She would not however be Princess Catherine and never will be. You have to be born a Princess.

True. The only exception was that the Queen allowed Alice, Duchess of Gloucester (mother of the present Duke) , to be known as Princess Alice after the death of her husband, but this was a courtesy title; the Queen did not make her a princess of the UK.

Current princesses in their own right

Princess Anne
Princess Charlotte of Cambridge
Princess Alexandra of Kent
Princess Beatrice of York
Princess Eugenie of York
Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor (although she doesn’t use the title)

Current princesses by marriage

Camilla, Princess of Wales (uses Duchess of Cornwall)
Sophie, Countess of Wessex
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex
Katharine, Duchess of Kent
Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester
Princess Michael of Kent

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/02/2022 00:38

@ClariceQuiff

Off topic but does anyone else find the word 'Queen' starts to look really silly when you see it in post after post?
yy queen has lost all meaning now. Weird.
OhWhyNot · 06/02/2022 00:39

Good distraction from the news Andrew is to give evidence under oath

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 06/02/2022 00:40

Well, I wouldn't curtsey to her. But then I wouldn't curtsey to any of them! Maybe the queen..Lizzie that is.

Why is this being announced right now?

Tealightsandd · 06/02/2022 00:42

@Monopolyiscrap

Charles had already made clear that he wanted Camilla to be called Queen. This is a non-story as a distraction from Andrew. The Queen is continuing to support Andrew with tactics like this.
It's the anniversary of her father's death and when she became Queen.

As for Andrew, she can't go back in time and choose the date her father died (quite young).

But it's also very hard for any mother to completely stop loving her child whatever they've been accused of.

It's possible to be disgusted at alleged actions whilst at the same time being unable to turn off uncontrollable maternal feelings.

Particularly hard when you're a very elderly ailing woman, who has gone through some devastating losses in recent years including her husband.

It's pretty cruel to - constantly - attack her with Andrew.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 00:43

It is being announced now, because just hours ago it was announced that Andrew will be giving evidence in court in response to the accusations he is facing.
I am guessing the Queen did not want everyone talking about the last time he publicly talked about these accusations during the can't sweat/pizza express interview.

Blueroses99 · 06/02/2022 00:44

It’s the 70th anniversary of the death of George VI and the Queen’s ascension to the throne today.

The timing of this statement has nothing to do with Andrew. It’s entirely predictable that a statement would be released on the eve of such an occasion.

Monopolyiscrap · 06/02/2022 00:44

@Tealightsandd I don't blame the Queen for the actions of her son. I do blame her for her constant tactics to defend him.
