Made some bran muffins this afternoon. I use a no sugar added recipe from heynutritionlady website. They use a date paste and bananas instead of any refined sugar. I didn't have enough dates so I used partly figs and they are fine. I add lots of nuts and dried cranberries. They are good despite not being very sweet like most muffins. The recipe says it makes 12 but I usually make 24 smaller muffins.

A lovely warm day in Vancouver with sunshine after our torrential rain. I am having a break as dog and DH are out walking. Funny thing, I do most of the dog walking, but the dog loves going with DH much more than me. I think it might be that DH is very sociable compared to me so our very sociable dog gets to meet people.

We have a call back from the airline tomorrow morning to discuss our flights. There is a non stop the next day so fingers crossed.

Getting through to an airline is becoming as hard as getting through to our GPs and making an appointment. I phoned a month ago with bronchitis and they offered me an appointment in late April!

Champagneforeveryone · 17/03/2022 01:10

lovefall, I managed to recently trick the BA call centre by resolutely not pressing any buttons whatsoever. This has also worked at the Calor gas depot, but goes horribly against my British desire to do what I'm told, when I'm told Grin

mathanxiety · 17/03/2022 02:26

I was entertained by a bulldog wearing a coat and literally refusing to walk. His owner said he hated mornings!
I have found my spirit animal.

I have a sinus infection (tested negative twice for covid). Last night and today went by in a blur, but I'm feeling better now so back to work tomorrow. DS came around to listen to my chest and take my blood pressure, plus some poking of various points on my face and checking my ears for infection. I missed the warmest day of the year so far, snoozing on the couch and sipping weak tea.

Prok that center in Berlin looks wonderful. An uncle of mine got a job after retirement with a small organisation in London which found placements for SEN teens after they left formal education. It wasn't a joined up organisation like the Annedore Leber center. Where I live, the local high school district keeps many SEN students in school until 21 while they do work placements and receive whatever support they need from people they are familiar with and can use school-provided transport to their placements.

Spudlet · 17/03/2022 07:43

Morning all. Hope you get those flights sorted, @LoveFall!

I have no bookings today but I’m going to try and embrace a day off and enjoy the sunshine here. I did my first hot stone massage yesterday which went down really well, so going to start promoting that shortly, as a stand-alone treatment or part of a sports massage.

Spudpup is currently snuggled into his bed with his favourite toy. This is especially gratifying as I made both of those things on my sewing machine with scrap fabric, so I am feeling smug Grin

IWanderedLonely · 17/03/2022 08:41

Still in bed, off work today for my birthday. Looks sunny out so may drag myself out for a jog. Can no longer call it a run as I've barely been this year and have lost what little fitness I had.

Happy St Patrick’s Day ☘️

HelenaJustina · 17/03/2022 14:05

Happy Birthday Iwandered beautiful day for it!

herecomesthsun · 17/03/2022 14:15

@Spudlet

Hot stone massages are great Smile

It is my husband's birthday today and if I can get him out of the kitchen long enough, I plan to make him a carrot and ginger cake.

Happy birthday to anyone else celebrating Cake Wine

I have a load of stuff to take back to Marks and Spencer sale.

Also have a really complicated evening trying to shuttle teen between national level maths challenge, marching band practice and a music lesson. Teen has full ASD diagnosis and is awaiting ADHD diagnostic assessment but is getting on with life pretty well right now thank goodness.

I haven't managed to find baby Stella yet (I think she will be a stand in for baby Jesus by the way) . We'll have a search at the weekend. She will probably need to change out of her party dress!

MissConductUS · 17/03/2022 15:01

Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone! NYC is having its first SPD parade in two years today, but it's raining. The Irish in me is still pleased. Smile

Happy Birthday, Iwandered and herecomesthesun's husband. There is still one slice of DS's birthday cake in the fridge but it's a bit stale at this point.

And speaking of treats, when DS came home I bought him a package of 24 Black and White Cookies, a New York City traditional favorite. He commented that he really preferred another brand. I thought I was going to have to bin them. I looked last night and there are only six left. Grin

Last night I went to Sainsburys to get some pants - incontinence ones as I had run out. I ordered some Depends (American I Think) from Amazon, but in the meantime thought I would go get some.

Just as well I did. When I got home and wanted to change one at 2.30 am, I found out that they were in fact pads. Not my normal ones but long non sticky ones. I did not want to open my Amazon box at that time in the morning in case it disturbed my flat mate so just had to use the pad.

Thank goodness I ordered the right thing from Amazon. The pads wont go to waste but I wish I had ordered the right thing to begin with. And, I had to line up twice! Once at Pharmacy and once for normal stuff!

Anyway, today is another day! I am working but it is a lovely fluffy cloud, blue sky kind of day (until I leave at 8 when it is bound to piss down, ha ha!).

LoveFall · 17/03/2022 15:57

We managed to rebook our flight for the next day, non stop. We lost our seat together of course but are across the aisle. Not awful but not as good, but worth it for the direct flight.

I usually get a man spreader next to me who hogs the arm rest but hoping not.

Pineapple express is back with torrential rain.

We are meeting my sister and niece for lunch today. They are driving down from the Interior where they live. My niece is going to a concert here so my sister is coming along. It will be nice to see them. My niece is in her last year of civil engineering. Tough course.

My Dad was a civil engineer and he would be very proud. She has her ring ceremony on Saturday. I don't know if you have that in England. They wear a hammered iron pinky ring to remind them of a bridge disaster in the past.

I am proud of her myself and will give her one of my handmade cards and some $$$,

LoveFall · 17/03/2022 16:04

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Ring

This is quite interesting. Rudyard Kipling wrote the ceremony.

LoveFall · 17/03/2022 16:12

@MissConductUS

Thanks for the St Patrick's Day wishes. DH is at least 1/2 Irish by DNA. Sadly we can't trace his ancestors as his Mum grew up in a convent. A big mystery which we have tried to solve but likely would need some skilled genealogy/DNA work.

It is sad what happened to so many. His Mum was a devout Catholic her whole life.

Silkierabbit · 17/03/2022 17:51

Happy St Patricks Day.

DD had a maths mock gcse and her IMC Olympiad paper today so maths all day.

I was supposed to have first cancer counselling today from BUPA via Macmillan but 2 minutes before they phoned and cancelled and the counsellor said she had a patient trying to take their life and could not offer me any other appointments atm. Not very therapeutic.

DH has gone to get my prescription from the private dentist for high fluoride toothpaste for chemo.

Silkierabbit · 17/03/2022 17:51

Happy Birthday Iwandered

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/03/2022 18:36

Happy birthday Iwandered
And congratulations to your DD Love Engineering is great.

DH has a construction of sticks and strings on his balcony to stabelize his tomatoes when they are outside. A pair of crows have decided that this is great nesting material and dismanteled the lot.

MissConductUS · 17/03/2022 21:42

Here are loads of pictures from the parade today. I think the rain wasn't as heavy as I feared.

Wow why a parade. Happy St Patrick’s day.

OMG Silkie that’s absolutely awful. Re counsellor. Hope you’re doing ok.

Good on your niece Love.

I’m doing ok but my cough rumbles on.

I worry it’s covid (not had it yet to my knowledge) do daily tests and always negative.

Great photos Miss
I'm glad the rain wasn't too heavy.
Great to know you have some Irish in you!

DP hurt his ankle again playing football so no parade for us today.
I did make bacon and cabbage for dinner though- my favourite Irish dinner.

MissConductUS · 18/03/2022 00:30

@halfpasteleven, I have a lot of Irish in me. I had three Irish grandparents. Loads of Irish immigrants settled in New York, as the parade makes clear. About 10% of the American population has substantial Irish ancestry, so over 30 million. We've done very well here. DH is mostly English, but I don't hold it against him. 😁

I love Fifth Avenue. There were some great pictures of St. Patrick's Cathedral in that article.

Belated St Patrick's Day greetings to all Gin
I may be the most Irish of the lot here, hailing as I do from Dublin, though my grandmother's family were blow-ins to Ireland and a good few other places too after they left their native north of England in about 1700.

LoveFalls, your DH might get some pointers from a commercial DNA site like 23andMe or Ancestry. I have connected with several third, fourth, and fifth cousins on my paternal grandmother's side who are scattered around South America and Mexico.
Congratulations to your niece. Engineering is a great profession.

Silkies hope you're doing ok. Is there any other counseling available?

Belated birthday wishes to IWandered and herecomesthsun's DH.

Spudlet · 18/03/2022 06:49

Happy belated St Patrick’s Day! My dad is Northern Irish and I have a lot of family there, although sadly I’m estranged from that side of the family. I’ve got traditional Celtic colouring though - stick me outside for two minutes on a mildly warm day and I turn into Mrs Tomatohead Grin

Makiwa · 18/03/2022 09:54

Happy St Patrick's day for yesterday to those who celebrate. DD2 wasn't happy about it when she came home from school. Apparently you get pinched if you aren't wearing a green item of clothing. She thinks that her English teacher might have brought that up in their last lesson. Luckily she has a khaki coat so was safe but upset for her friends. No idea if this is a known thing or just something happens at her school. We have celtic colouring too - 2 of the 3 DC are redheads.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/03/2022 10:00

My ancestors were either too poor or too well of to emigrate (mostly too poor) and then, of course, they became miners. Grin

Guess who is positive now? DD - who has hardly been in contact with other real live humans (apart from her father) since the beginning of 2020. She feels mildly inconvenienced. She has to write a paper, so did not plan on going anywhere anyway.

The chimney sweep has been for the annual emission check of our boiler - all fine.

bobbythevet · 18/03/2022 14:23

I have somehow inexplicably managed to get both the babies (3y and 3m) to nap at the same time and this is the FIRST TIME IT HAS EVER HAPPENED. I'm celebrating with a tea, I don't trust it enough to nap myself!
