How much were you earning at 25?

Hi all. Just that really! I'm 25, graduated uni last year and have been working since. I have had jobs prior to this but they were all MW retail/waitressing type jobs. My current job is my first one in my desired/degree field.

I currently earn 21k. DP is 27 and earns 22k. We live in East Anglia. This is more than enough to support us and DD and we live comfortably, but a recent thread has left me feeling a little deflated, as people not much older than DP and I seem to be earning considerably more.

We both love our jobs and I know we have many years to develop our careers and salaries, but still, it is a little disheartening!

How much were you earning at 25, and how much are you earning now?

I was on about 20k at 25.
8 years later I'm on 60k.
Mid-twenties to mid-thirties is a time when lots of people make good progress in their careers

23k. I’m now 32 and earn 47k

25 was a salary of £26000. I’m now on £48000 nearly 9 years later. Those salaries seem good for east anglia

I earnt about 28k

About 21k-24k, not sure exactly.

Central London - aged 25 I was on £19k!
Now 8 years later I’m on £42k.

About £19k at 25.
Circa £40k at 35.

At 25 I was still at uni.

55k at 26, seven years later about 115 from all sources but it’s been an unusually good year.

All that said since finishing uni I have more or less lived at work, only once lived in one place for more than two years, seen family a handful of times a year, and am now in a role where the culture is take minimal leave and work long hours. You hopefully have better balance in life.

25k at 25, I run my own business now and make about £100k a year. I’m 44.

35k I think at 25.

then a bit more to now.

26k at 25
now

Nothing.

Then 26.5k at 27, 35k at 30 and 62k at 32 (although I’m 0.8 FTE so works out about 50k).

That’s after having a baby too.

My DD is 24 and earns 30k (and a bit more with bonuses) in London.

About 20k I'm 31 now and just under 26k.

Probably similar to you, I can’t remember exactly, but it was 20 years ago so relatively worth much more!

Single parent on benefits, now on 20k in my late thirties. Did a degree in between but couldn't find relevant employment.

I was on £21k I think, but that was over 15 years ago!

I just don’t get it. I have two postgrads and am on a miserable wage.

Would posters say the industry they are in? That would be really helpful.

Nothing. Was on a postgrad course. First job £15k aged 26 but that was 25 years ago.

At 22 I was on £20k, 25 I was on £31k and by 27 it was £50k. Salaries at entry level are still the same despite massive cost of living pressures. I feel sorry for people in their early 20s as salaries definitely have not risen at the same pace as accommodation costs.

At 25 I was on about 25K.
17 years later, and I'm on 16k.

Between finishing uni at 21 and 25 I job hopped every year or two to get a bigger salary. This is recruitment/sales in central London and basic salaries. I’d have earnt commission on top of these figures but not much at the start.
21 - £17,000, which rose to £19,000
22 - £27,500
23 - £32,000 which rose to £40,000
25 - £47,000
